ROY JONES JR. ON POTENTIAL JOE CALZAGHE FIGHT: "I AIN'T GOING TO RUN LIKE BERNARD DID!"
By G. Leon
GL: Can you give us some thoughts on the Joe Calzaghe-Bernard Hopkins fight? "I thought it was a really good fight. I thought it could have been called a draw. It could have gone either way. The reason I say that is because when you look at the reality of the situation, you have a 43 and a 36 year old man and you don't expect the 43 old man to be the busier. He economically kept up though because he landed the more quality punches and the harder punches in the fight and of course the younger guy landed more punches, but that's what you would expect when a guy who is 36 is fighting a guy who is 43. Really the 36 year old should have been able to wear him down and he didn't, but Bernard got hit with low blows and he was smart, he waited to get himself back together and he came back and I think he won that round. It was a much closer fight than what they called it. I don't think it was that far apart because Hopkins clearly landed the cleaner punches throughout the fight, Calzaghe just landed more of the punches."

i hope he doesnt run,joe works best against fighters who come to him,and the "called a draw" thing, what a joke,i exspect a top performance from calzaghe again which is usually the way when he puts in a lacklustre one,and i love the fact that joes getting wound up before the fight it means hes focusing again unlike before the convict fight.
For Joe's sake he better not look as sluggish as he did against the "convict."
Jones won't run, but he won't come to Calzaghe either.

Jones shouldnt run, no need to this time. I think he can take Joes best shot.

dude, your such a fraeakin nuthugger its incredible. a younger hopkins, yes even the one roy beat would beat the fucking snot out of calzgahe. hopkins at 43 is way too past his prime , physically to do it. bernard was a good tactician in that roy jones fight, he was just in with a freak of a fighter who had a huge advantage in speed, was smart himself, good power, and reflexes.
Ah...yeah, and you're calling him a nuthugger.
the full article is on page 3 of this thread.
and I remember when that article was on B-TALK in 2003, cause I thought it was hilarious that Calzaghe would finally admit that he never wanted to fight Roy Jones.
And Curtis McCormick (the author of the article) validated the quote from the interview he did with Joe Calzaghe that he based the article on.
Joe clearly won round 6, I don't know who said otherwise. Hopkins won round one, maybe rounds seven and ten. That's it. The others were all clear Calzaghe rounds
joe clearly won, the only rounds that you could give to bernard is 1,6,7,10 and i thought the first could of been a even round and the 10th was when bernard was acting and took 5 minutes because he was tired
bernard won round 2 and 3 too and maybe 4
I rewatched Jones Hopkins literally just now. That was a totally different Bernard! He was about half the size and was a boxer. For me Calzaghe beats that Bernard easy. A huge amount of what Bernard was able to do on saturday was based around physical strength and size. His clinching and countering was all based on it.

Hopkins had more ring smarts in his late 30's but he also threw 3 times as many punches when he was younger, he has always been an accurate puncher. Zaghe would lose if he tried to bang with that version of Hopkins, he'd get taken to school if he fought B-Hop when he was 35-39
Just confirmed with Curtis McCormick (the author of that Joe Calzaghe article):
"i did write that article when i was a writer on **********.com. joe did say that about roy in the interview for the basis of that article.
-curtis mccormick"
Calzaghe is a total flake and a flip flop.
Nope. You likely wouldn't find ANY that said Joe Clearly won the fight.
Both Mike Tyson and Roy were picked off and interviewed immediately after the fight. Mike Tyson thought Bernard won.
Roy, obviously looking for a big money showdown, hedged, and said he could make a case for either guy or for a draw. Roy AIN'T gonna say he thought Joe lost, because Joe is the BIGGEST money out there for Roy. Why would he sh!t on that? Frankly, I'm surprised Roy called it as down the line as he did.
