Prime Jones against Calzaghe now - Jones wins by stoppage
Calzaghe now vs Jones now - Calzaghe wins
Prime Calzaghe vs Jones now - Calzaghe by KO
Prime Jones vs Prime Calzaghe - both could have won. Some people seem to have forgotten just how much damage Calzaghe could do before he fucked up his hands, and lets be honest here Jones has previous for being KO'd. Mind you Roy was something else for a long time, whether that was the roids or not I dunno. If it's points I'd probably go for RJJ but it's a lot closer than some of you think.
It would go the distance, if David Telesco can do it and Lou De Valle can go the distance then Calzaghe can. Calzaghe only get dropped when he's cold. All KD's came in the very early rounds. Id make it 8-4 rounds split in RJJ's favour.
joe would win this fightr, both at their prime theirs nothing rjj could offwer calzaghe
his chin is granite - the put down off hopkins is only the second time hes been down & the other was a slip
theres a lot of people judging calzaghe by his performance against hopkins - hes 36 ffs - get over it
at his prime he was untouchable
Because Roy Jones had so many knockouts right?
Roy Jones didn't knockout most of his oppnenonts (Reggie Johnson just to name one) and Calzaghe has a great chin. He'd beat him 9-3 possibly. Maybe closer, but it would be clear.
Do you know who "Sweet" Reggie Johnson is? When was he ever stopped? The Ice Man could give alot of history about him. Johnson is a former world champ who was the first guy to knock James Toney down officially & have him pretty hurt. Toney won a close decision in that fight. Johnson gave Tarver hell right before his fight with Jones back in like 01. A fight that could've easily went to Johnson. He also beat Lamar parks who was a very good fighter that could've had a great career but was HIV positive. I think he also beat Steve Collins too. Reggie Johnson was a very good fighter that Roy pitched a shutout against & had him down twice I believe. Someone has to post a gif of Roy landing that counter 1-2 that dropped him. It happened so fast & with such unbelievable precision.
Not much sensible discussion in this thread.
Vinny Pazienza is as tough a fighter as you'll ever see, no exaggeration. The fact that he was stopped is impressive right there. Imagine what Roy would do to jone. it would be the beatdown of the century
He was also a 33-year old former lightweight champion coming off a near career-ending neck injury fighting at super middleweight against the p4p number 1, prime Roy Jones.
Pazienza got that fight for winning a decision over a 45 year old Roberto Duran.
Imagine Joe Calzaghe fighting Jose Luis Castillo...
And before everyone (or anyone) starts saying, "but hopkins put him down and hopkins isnt even in his prime"...
i will say this; it wasn't a powerful shot; calzaghe was just off balance. (ie. no big deal)...he wasnt hurt or anything...just off balance.
K.
Who was the master of knocking people down when they were off balance? Well maybe you can point that out for me.

Calzaghe would've KO'd the glass chinned Jones with a straight left hand if these two had fought in their primes.
LMFAO .
Honestly, I think that's just fucking ridiculous.
That's not even feasible.

Are you guys serious? Is everyone here forgetting how good RJJ really was in his prime? I like Calzaghe as much as the next guy, but come on. Roy was freakishly gifted and talented. That's a description you can only really say about rjj and Tyson.
Another thing is, Joe doesn't have an impenetrable defense or anything. That's never been his forte. He's always been fairly hittable. Joe is really fast with his hands and his legs, but I'm afraid to say prime rjj was just a whole different level. Not to mention Joe's knockouts have largely been stoppages due to continuous punching, not from solid concussive punches. He doesnt make people do the chicken dance like rjj did in his prime.
not discrediting Joe at all.. But he couldnt deal with this..
I've seen plenty of Roy, and I didn't say he wouldn't win but we all know when he faced the elite he was very cautious and never finished a guy who can truly be considered elite. He didn't stop Lou de valle or reggie Johnson who were regular southpaws, I doubt he stops Calzaghe and I think it's a competitive fight where Roy has the edge.
It's a backlash against Joe for beating Hopkins. But Jones jr is not being over rated in his prime as much as Joe is being underated in his prime, and even now. For the record, I think Calzaghe hurts Jones jr. today, and in the past he would have Won a decision, though I wouldn't have bet in it, over Calzaghe. Jones' trakc record shows he never stopped elite fighters, and Calzaghe is an elite fighter with a sturdy chin, I don't think he's getting credit.

hopefully this fight gets made
people are overrating jones jr like they overrated holyfield against sultan
Its looking like it will get made.. And if Roy can beat Joe at this age and stage of his career... well there wont be any more questions. he will be cemented in top 10 ATG ..
