He fought a smart fight. I don't dispute the decision. But he LITERALLY slaps. Like during his flurries, his arms actually rotate in a slapping motion. Slappalicious performance by him.
I think Calzaghe has the power in him, he just chooses to punch way softer and faster to score points. It seems as if he wanted to slug it out he could but its just not his style
I agree he was slapping a lot but those slaps must've been hard since they had Hopkins on the defensive like never before. Hae u seen Bhop more defensive in any of his previous fights?
yes, I absolutely have, haha
I agree completely. That's the thing, it works fine for him. Like sometimes he hits and hits good. But when he's scoring his throwing his arms around so awkwardly. Might as well if he wins though.
judges don't give near enough credit for power punches and clean shots. I guess slapping hopkins arms and gloves is a great way to score points.
I think he has deceptive power in those hands. They look, at times, girlish and ineffectual (though very fast), but Jeff Lacy's face was hamburger after 12 rounds, and, halfway through their fight, he had Mikkel Kessler doubled over in pain.
But whatever works, eh? There's nobody who fights like Joe calzaghe, and I, for one, love watching him go to work. :boxing:
i think if he wants to crack he can.but for the most part his barrages are to score points and overwhelm the opponent.you shouldn't fuck with a philosophy if it works for you.
he used to have a ton of power in his straight left till he broke it!
even in his prime he liked to throw circular punches that often end in slaps. if he sorted that our he may land less but he could do more damage.

He caresses the face of his opponent
Guys like him, Ouma, Paul Williams, and Juan Diaz all win fights and even get KO's by consistently flurrying, not by hittin with any real power. They don't need to land hard to win when they get off as much offense as they do in fights.

Funniest quote of the night (and I might put it in my sig) is when Lampley said "Calz seems to have adjusted by taking some power out of his punches in order to have more speed and accuracy." ROFL.
