What was Hopkins' prime? When he was younger he may have had better physical attributes, but he's never been smarter than he is now. Exactly, every single one of Bernard's big wins have come after his 36th birthday. Two of his biggest wins (and arguably the only big names close to his size or the same size as him), came after his 41st birthday.

hopkins style is to not get beat up thats why alot of his fights are close and hard to judge but he definitely lost to joe

There's a reason that Bernard didn't go after Calzaghe following the knockdown: He's a very clever boxer so he knew that if he went after Joe he was getting fucked up.

His handspeed is nowhere near what it was when he was younger.

I think a prime Hopkins would have stopped Joe after the Knock down in an aggressive fashion. That said The fight was close and this is boxing so I have no real problem with Joe as the winner but All you Calzaghe fans should take note from tonights performance that your boy is smoke and mirrors and looked like an amateur tonight far too often. His chin aint that good and he's not half the fighter Hopkins was in his prime.

anybody who thinks being 43 helped hopkins is an idiot... a yonuger version finishes calzaghe... and also powerwise you do realise that calzaghe was heavier and stronger than he was at 168? so he said himself... you also realise that power is the last thing to go? speed agility etc but power stays alot longer joe simply didn't impress and showed limitations that some fanboys truly believed he din't have

This version of Hopkins had the best chance of winning , the experience kept him in the fight, Hopkins has matured like a fine wine

Hopkins was always a calculating. inside dirty fighter, with a few brilliant boxing clinics such as the Trinidad fight. More often than not the Hopkins we saw tonight was the Hopkins in his prime.

No way. Joe would have done better against a prime Hopkins IMO. B-hop's game plan after getting the KD on Joe was to fight defensively. He was too tough to crack but Joe managed to. Prime Hopkins wasn't this careful, Joe beats any version of Popkins.
