I think Joe-Taylor would have been uglier than Joe-Lacy. Taylor is not nearly as tough as Lacy and never could have lived through that. (He's also a sensitive guy who would have offed himself afterwards)
Hopkins probably could have beaten Lacy in a close decision
Even if you are a Joe Fan you have to give Bernard the nod on any inside work against Lacy, one of Lacy's biggest problems in the Joe fight was having his arm neutralised in the clinches, you've got to give Bernard an equal chance of doing that and doing it dirtier
International fighters from the European continent have not consistently proven to be on the same level as their American counterparts. So credibilty in Europe and credibilty in the US are two totally different things.
depends about the weight class and who is in the division.
Super middle is dominated by europeans.

Kessler has proven himself to be the 2nd best in Calzaghes division, much more so than Lacy, same goes for Eubank. Yet Lacy is somehow more credible? :ugh:
Who cares? Worldwide, and this IS an international sport, Kessler and Eubank are considered far more credible and talented opponents.

Wow, really? Calzaghe stopping Taylor now? Taylor is not on Calzaghe's level by any stretch, but saying he'd be stopped is selling him (Jermain) short.
He is capable of giving Joe a better fight than Lacy gave him. Might not even be a terribly competitive fight, but it's not 120-108 or whatever Calz/Lacy was.
If Hopkins had fought the Lacy that was bowling over folks he'd have won a cautious, clear unanimous decision. BB you're crazy for saying Lacy would maul Hopkins in the corner. Just wouldn't happen.
Joe would have beaten Taylor by stoppage or 4-5 rounds and Bernard would beat Jeff. A lot of Joe's work on the inside negated Jeff and stopped him from getting into any Rythm, you would have to say that Bernard's inside work would be equally as difficult to deal with, possibly even more so given his style. How's that for fence sitting!!!
Eubank was past his prime.
Kessler was a virtual unknown in the United States. It still stands that Jeff Lacy is the most impressive name on his ledger.
I guess we'll finally see how Joe looks against someone with a above average skillset, regardless of age.

If Hopkins faced Calzaghe's opponents, he'd be undefeated.
If Calzaghe faced Hopkin's opponents, he'd have a few losses.
One I think. Honestly.
RJJ would have dealt with Joe.
Though Saturday night tells a lot about JC.
When Jeff Lacy is the biggest name on your boxing resume, you are UNPROVEN.
Eubank or Kessler are the biggest names on joe career...... Eubank was past it though.
Yes they have.
2002 - Calzaghe and Hopkins agree terms to fight. The next day Hopkins pulls out. yeah, that's Calzaghe not making the big fights.
Just who is there that he's ducked? I mean really. He's fought everyone who was in his division or passed through it in his time. I suppose he didn't fight Ottke, but then we all know the reasons why that never came to pass.
Not Joe.
GJ for one. But, I didn't say he ducked. I said he never made the fights happen. You can say that's the fault of the other fighter in each circumstance or you can look at his career as a whole and see the pattern.
The Taylor that fought Hopkins woud be the Taylor Calzaghd is facing......Calz would win....I would say 7 rounds to 5.
You're saying Joe would only win 7 rounds over the same Taylor who fought Hopkins?
Wow.
I'd give Calzaghe 10 rounds, at least. You cannot stand there, staring at your opponent for most of the fight like Hopkins and Taylor did like a couple of pussies. 24 fucking rounds of that crap was hard to sit thru. Joe Calzaghe would ANNIHILATE Taylor. Bank on it.
I believe Bernard landed only TWO punches in the first round of their rematch?
Not everyone's beaten Glen Johnson.
But, I understand the logic. Why fight anyone good and risk something when the idiot fans over there, who are so desperate to have something to call their own that they'll worship a heaping pile of shit, will pack the stands to watch you fight a reality TV castoff.
Joe Calzaghe has never made the BIG fights happen. That's not me hating. That's reality.

Wright, Pavlik and Taylor are in lower weights. Johnson almost happened but didn't, but then everyone's beaten him, even Ottke (and fairly for once!).
Hopkins fought a couple of WW's, a horrendously blown up LMW at 170, Mason Dixon minus 50 pounds and lost to Jones and Taylor.
Really, their resumes are barely different.

Even Taylor's promoter said Taylor would lose this one. When your promoter says it you know its the truth.
Haha.... yeah, he would definitely stop taylor... Wright? Puh-leaze. Pavlik? A joke. RJJ? C'mon. Glen Johnson? That would be ugly.
It's laughable. I love how Calzaghe fans go on and on about all of the fighter Calzaghe COULD'VE/WOULD'VE beaten. I'd much rather root for a fighter who ACTUALLY FOUGHT fights.
