Watching their fight at 170, i noticed Winky was heavily gasping for air since the 3rd or 4th round. Along with the gash on his head, and the fact that i had him easily winning the first half of the fight, imo he wouldve beat hopkins @160 had they fought in their primes. by the end of the fight he was holding on for life and hopkins was still crisp, even then i scored the fight a draw, as did many others
Who do you think wouldve won?
Isn't the definition of a credible challenger someone who is a decent threat to the champion?
Yes, it would probably be accurate what you just said.
But, you know, retarded and all that.
Credible, yes very much so.
But threat to his throne? Nah, don't think so.

imo he beat both vargas and taylor
the shane rematch was closer but that was more a credit to shane making big adjustments than winky who didnt change a thing
also it should be noted that most had tito winning by KO before the fight and wink was a big underdog if i remember correctly
He limited Trinidad to the worst possible performance a fighter can have without being hurt.
He "nearly" beat Taylor.
I can't imagine who more proof someone needs to proclaim Winky Wright as at least a credible challenger to Bernard Hopkins at 160.

I think Hopkins would win a rather wide decision. The man was brutally effective in his prime. He would be way more physical and active, using all the tricks he did in their actual fight, only at ten times the pace.
Winky in his best age lost to Fernando Vargas. He barely beat Shane Mosley in the rematch, a small welterweight.
Winky is known for outboxing Tito and Mosley, but hey... Who hasn't done that, right? :dunno:
Cool so that mean he did someting a 160

well i think they were just saying that for a psychological advantage
i agree winky needs to put down the donuts tho, but i dont think hopkins wouldve KO'd him. if anything he woulda collapsed due to fatigue

it would have count as a KO. fighter should know there weight limits they can fight at. thats part of being a pro
i understand where you are coming from but there was a video where his trainer and winky said they feel better at that weight. everybody saw winky lack of discpline when he went to krispy kremes and said he walk around at 190. i think the fight was closer than scored but i had wish they had another round or two so he could get KOed

Hopkins, Winky as great as he is has done nothing above 154lbs to suggest he could beat a great champion like Bernard Hopkins.
i still think winky beat taylor
The fight at 170 was a closer than people gave Winky credit for. Some people thought he won. I had it for Hopkins 115-113. That said, I think it would be close but if I had to pick I'd say Winky by that same score prime for prime at 160. I really wanted Hopkins to beat Jermain so they could fight after Winky first moved up but it didn't happen. Hopkins would have a hard time frustrating a guy who's as much a tactical genius as he is. He did it at 170 cuz Wright had no business bein up there. Winky woulda held his own better at 160 and won a close fight that probably wouldn't have been as dull.

I had the fight 116-113 Hop.
A few points:
Hopkins at middleweight, in his prime, threw far more punches than the one who fought Wink at 170. In that fight, as has been typical with Bernard in the past couple of years to his advantage he fought conversatively and economically, on the backfoot, using lateral movement and keeping Wink offset. In his prime this wouldn't be the case. He's be a lot more aggressive, a lot busier.
Wink didn't lose because he was tired, he kept his energy levels very high throughout the fight, the judges just liked Bernard's RING GENERALSHIP, he was the one doing exactly as he pleased while Winky seemed to run out of ideas actually and came in a lot of the time in straight lines. That's the way Wright's fought for quite a while now, very come forward, plenty of jabs, high guard around his face..
I do think it would be as competitive at 160, Winky Wright is not a guy you just dominate, but I favour Hopkins. The Hopkins of the Glen Johnson fight v any Wink you like and Philly takes it
