Sorry the 1000th post on this but after watching the MWvsHatton fight extensively, the only problem Cortez had was that he was paying to much attention. He was breaking them up for good reason. And despite being a mayweather fan, he made it so Cortez had to break them up. Go back and look at the fight. Everytime someone holds someones arms down, or has someones head under there arm, the ref has to break it up. Mayweather would hit then end up under hattons arm. Or he would hold so the ref would stop the action. This is exactly wat cortez was doing if you look closely. I would also say that after about round 3 or 4 cortez began to loosen up. I think if anything he laid down the law in the beginning rounds to show both fighters that he isnt taking anything from either of them. What do u guys think given the points i just made?
compare castillo hatton vs hatton mayweather
and tell me with a straight face that cortez is a good ref
Good point. Cortez has done some shitty work before but it's still an excuse Hatton's using. And besides, I remember Hatton gettin some help from an incompetent ref in his win over Tszyu. Same story, different fighter. Hatton woulda won anyway but the ref coulda done a better job.

He did a horrible job and ruined what could have been a great fight. Just accept it
Well I think he was too agressive in rounds 2 and 3, but the threadstarter makes some good points. Both were doing their fair share of tactics and Cortez would let Hatton bully Mayweather to the ropes and Cortez would let Mayweather use his elbow.
He would only break them up with Hatton or Mayweather weren't trying to create shots. I just think he was stupid to slap the fighters elbows (I hate it when a ref does this) and call timeout to warn them and he was in the way sometimes.
Also I think the elbow from Mayweather is prefectly fair if Hatton is allowed to hit and hold. Honestly I think it's a little hyprocritical for people to say "he wouldn't let Hatton do his gameplan", but then Mayweather wouldn't be allowed to do his. I mean Mayweather was allowed too and so was Hatton (to an extent, I think he when warning Hatton he shouldn't have gotten in their faces).
So he did a meh job. It wasn't the best, but it wouldn't change the outcome and I think Cortez didn't do the massacare as people make it out to be.
Cortez did far from a good job. he was biased allowing mayweather to elbow and hold more than ricky. with that being said, mayweather would have gotten him regardless and it wont change the outcome of the rematch either. mayweather already has his number.
I agree with all of that. This is starting to take the Chavez-Taylor I type of controversy, and it really doesn't deserve it. But Cortez did suck that night.
Cortez may have had a lackluster performance, but the fact of the matter is it didnt cost hatton the fight, he was in over his head fighting a much bigger and technically sound Floyd Mayweather
I agree in the end it didn't really matter. Was Cortez probably a little to involved yes, but it didn't chance the outcome. I wonder if in Ricky's next fight against Laczano if he'll be holding like a muthafucker again.
How could it be the refs fault that Hatton got knocked out? It's absolutely ridiculous to think that. I think he did show a little favoritism toward Floyd, but that is debatable and not clearly obvious. Cortez has been used as a scape goat by Hattons fans, and that's just not right. Hatton lost fair and square. My dad hates Floyd because he talks so much shit, but even he acknowledged he was surprised Floyd won that type of fight. After the fight he said Floyd was a real champion, and he hates the guy and lost $300. lol

I always thought mayweather was the better man anyways but looking at those videos (which i know are one sided) fuck me, they weren't skills. Just dirty tactics.
Cortez was too active, so hatton's backers will always blame him for the loss but Joe wasn't the deciding factor in the fight. PBF was the better man and that's all that mattered in the end.

Please watch these videos, and tell me what do you think about them. Just for the sake of argument, I think Mayweather would beat Hatton even without the questionable ref involvement.
Lol thats what im saying, i blame mayweath(im a big fan) more then i blame the ref

buuuuulllshiiiiiiit buuuullshiiit
Lol come on just go back and look. I actually think it was more floyd's fault then anything. Just thinking outside the box, trying to see it from another angle. Any other opinions?
