Cotto beating Mosley might have been part of the reason people found it so easy to take him over Mosley. I wanna hear more from the guy who picked Paul Williams.

Some comedy voting here, short memories strike again. Even the much faded, older Shane Mosley gave Cotto a close fight a few months ago, just imagine if the Mosley of eight years ago was there. I personally would take the Mosley that beat De La Hoya the first time over a peak Mayweather. I agree with that last guy...Mosley was so talented...even though he has 5 losses now, he has never been stopped and showed well vs. Cotto. At age 36, I had the fight a draw. You get the feeling, if he gets in shape he can beat everybody on the list. Also Tito fought everybody, ducking no-one, and mostly lost to bigger guys (no welterweight beat him), he gets points for that. Mayweather is talented but he the most boring on the list.

yes, i never claimed that a case couldn't be argued for oscar, trinidad, or mosley. i put in my post that it's obvious that oscar has the best resume of anybody on that list, that's an obvious answer, but he lost to trinidad, lost to mosley twice, and you have to factor those losses in, whether you want to or not, he could have fought floyd at 147 back in 2005 or even 2004, andof course in 2006 he could have, but he didn't. mosley, beat oscar twice at that weightclass, which is why i claimed i wouldn't argue if somebody put him as number 1, but he did lose to cotto, past his prime or not, you can't take that win away from cotto, which i'm sure you won't, seeing how you love cotto, just like i love mayweather and will never take the win he had from oscar away from him, because he fought a guy who fought his ass off, and had all of the physical advantages over floyd, with the ring size, gloves, weight, etc, and yet, his skillset wasn't good enough for floyd's. that's all. and, you can argue, that oscar lost to a welterweight, hell, even a jr welterweight in floyd because to many people, he did, and floyd was really small compare to oscar, but floyd's skillset takes him to higher weight classes to beat these bigger fighters, which is why i factored in skillset into my posts, because the threadstarter didn't specify as what he held the greatest to be or what he wanted from us, so skillset played a huge role in my picking of floyd. now, with trinidad, i didn't pick him, even though i believe his prime weight was 147, and he had the most success out of anybody on the list is because yes, he beat sweet pea, he beat oscar, controversially or not, he beat him, oba carr was a good win for anybody and he beat camacho, past is prime or not, but his skillset to me was lacking, and that factored into it. oscar was giving him a boxing clinic when they fought, and comacho was catching him heavily also, trinidad was a monster at 147 with his power, but imo he lacked the skills to put him higher on the list, but he used what he had very well which is why he was so successful at that weight. now, with cotto, yes, he beat quiatna who was undefeated and who many felt would outbox cotto, and judah, who he knocked out, and mosley, who he in turn outboxed to some degree. but, floyd beat judah also, the guy who beat judah, and hatton, i don't care if he moved up. think about it, do you think that gomez, urango, or quiatana is better than hatton skillwise? i feel judah and mosley crushes hatton, but gomez? urango? even though urango was rough and rugged, he was slow as shit. and you even have people comparing cotto to hatton in terms of style, so even if you disagree with the comparison, what's that saying about hatton? Best welterweight of our time? Good post question. But from now to how far back is considered our time? Floyd's the best in terms of bein the most talented, but he ain't been a WW that long and his oppsition at 147 ain't so great. Cotto's had tough comp at 147 but he also ain't been at it that long. If you're talkin the last 10-15 years, Oscar's in the discussion cuz he took on all comers, but he got beat by Shane and at least according to the judges, by Tito. Mosley beat Oscar in his prime, imo woulda beaten all of Oscar's 147 lb opponents, and is still goin strong now, so I'd give him the nod.
