There are some that say that Margarito wouldnt be able to hold Hatton's jockstrap. There are some that say that Margarito wouldnt stand a CHANCE against Oscar De La Hoya and would most likely get KNOCKED OUT. And not the Oscar of the 1990's either, but the Oscar of today. There are even some saying that Margarito might as well even be a tune up for Miguel Cotto and that he should be criticized for taking an easy fight again. So what do you all think?
All I can say for a guy like Margarito is that he's lucky Alfonso Gomez already softened up Cotto for the fight this summer.. Other than that Margarito has basically no chance whatsoever. He's a handpicked opponent.
A win over Margarito will look good for Cotto's resume. Tough fighter and a high profile win which should force Mayweather to seriously consider fighting Cotto.
Margarito would eat Ricky Hatton for breakfast, Ricky is too small. At 147 he's half the fighter he is at 140, and with the difference in height I think Margarito would break Hatton down in less than 8 rounds.
Tony would blow little Hatton out in 3 rounds tops and wouldn't even bother putting his hands up the entire fight to be honest. However, I would still like to see it especially if he beats Cotto as it would be a big money fight for him and the sight of them standing next to each will be something to behold.
I like Margarito. He's never been knocked out, and got close decisions in his big losses, so you have to take that into account. I think he showed in the Cintron fight that he can control a bout, and deserves to fight someone who can do the same. If either fighter wins, it's a good win for them.
Of course. He'll have beaten someone who has been consistently avoided by Mayweather and De La Hoya. A KO win over Margarito on PPV makes him the one to beat at 147.
and even Cotto... I definitely agree with you. The fact that he's been ducked by so many big name "CHAMPS" tells you he is a threat. If Cotto ko's Margarito then He alone would prove to everyone that he is a "TRUE CHAMP" and would fight anyone, even if they are ducked by the rest.

I wouldn't say he's a tough challenge for everyone (unless you count the fact he seems to never accknowledge he's taken a punch, but he could still be outboxed by Mosley or Mayweather), but he would be a great win for Cotto's resume.
It's a analogy. I'll break it down, Margarito has been lurking in the 147lb weight division for awhile and even called the most feared. Now as much as he calls out ppl and such they ignore him but now they got no choice. But that "bug" aka Margarito is around and such so much that you gotta "smack" that "bug" As in giving him a chance. So getting rid of Margarito is something that just has to be done and should be done with no huge credibility. Get it?
Your vote must not have registered in the poll. As I type this it is unanimous.
Margarito has a piss poor jab, and will get his ass beat by an elite most likely. And Margarito would beat Hattons ass, because Hatton's jab is piss poor too.
Somewhat, Margarito is one of those bugs that stay around and annoy you and wants attention until you give it to it. But once you kill that bug it really didn't matter or mean too much besides you getting it out of the way.
I agree with this. Someone had to fight Margarito. It's going to be Cotto and if Cotto takes care of him HBO will lose interest. He'll pop up somewhere again maybe even on HBO, but not with the same fanfare he's gotten recently.
I'm not as hyperbolic as some people. Margarito has the height on Cotto so that's going to be a challenge. He's also probably the 4th, 5th or 6th best fighter in a thinning, but quality division. So, it'd be a good win.
I said Margarito'd lose to DLH and I believe that because unlike most welterweights, DLH is just as big as Margarito, has taken middleweight punches and has much better technical skills than Margarito. Margarito's size and height advantages against 5'6"-5'8" fighters like Mayweather, Judah, Mosley, Cotto and even Hatton quickly evaporates against a fellow 5'11" fighter like DLH. DLH still has better speed and technique and maybe even more power than Margarito.
I do think it's Cotto's lowest risk, highest reward money fight, but it'll be a decent win for him. It doesn't make him any more qualified to fight Mayweather, but that doesn't change the fact that its a solid win.
Cotto gets mad props if he beats Tony.
Of course. He'll have beaten someone who has been consistently avoided by Mayweather and De La Hoya. A KO win over Margarito on PPV makes him the one to beat at 147.

There are really people who say that? ive never seen that one. Id pick Oscar over Margarito, but Margarito would be a good win not a great win as he hasnt really done anything. The same goes for Cotto, it would be a good win for Marg, im not sure about a great win, but this fight is necesary because its puts the winner in the position to legitimize them as the best, if either wins impressively is says a whole lot about that fighter.
Thatbwas a funny analogy lol.
Na Margarito is a credible win, but dont be stupid, if Oscar cud comfortably make 147 he would desicion Tony, but Tony would beat Hatton in my opinion
