I still think Cintron is a top contender while i view Collazo and Clottey as lower tier Contenders although i think Collazo is a bit underrated. I say Clottey is overrated cuz u got people who think he cud beat damn Oscar De La Hoya
None of them have beaten anybody. Even Cintron, who has he beaten who's in the top 10? And is the top 10 at 147 really as strong as people say it is? You have a lot of fighters who are pretty good, but only a handful of them have good resumes. I think it's fair to say the loser of Clottey-Collazo is outside or that Cintron really needs to show something very soon. He's gotten BLOWNOUT by Margarito twice now. And his best win is probably against David Estrada or Hicklet Lau. That's very close to Henry Bruseles territory.

You guys are quickly becoming my best friends lol, Clottey is so overrated in my opinion, he lost against Tony and against Baldomir, green or not, and his biggest win was against a blown up Diego Corrales
Yeah Clottey is a little over-rated, but it seems like anyone who is decent and has trouble getting fight is over-rated these days. Like if someone turns down a fight with a top 10 contender that automatically counts as a win over the guy who turned down the fight.
Both Clottey and Collazo need to show something. Whoever wins that fight is still viable at 147, but it's time to stop just calling 147 the best division and to start weeding out the pretenders from the real contenders. Cintron is down. The loser of Clottey-Collazo will be down. Then we'll see what happens from there. As much as I love Zab if he can't beat Mosley then he's more of a second tier contender than a true challenger for the real crown.

fighters break their hands all the time, the difference is, the great ones find ways to fight through it and still pull out a victory. Clottey is good but his biggest accomplishment is losing to Margarito, and its not like Margarito is the greatest fighter out there.
I have to agree. Clottey could have found a way to win that fight. To me, it almost looked like that fight was fixed. Clottey could not miss Margarito and then all of a sudden he basically stopped working. Fighters break their hands all the time. But it's rare to see a guy go into a shell the way Clottey did that night.
Well it makes sense to keep everybody happy but I still hope for the day we could have a Welterweight Unification tournament. As amazing as boxing is now, if we had that it would be even greater.
Imagine Mayweather, Cotto, Margarito, Quintana, the winner of Mosley/Judah, Clottey, Cintron, and Collazo all in a tournament for a unified Championship.
Titles never stay unified. Back when the WBO wasn't recognized the title was unified but it got splintered when Zab lost to Baldomir (who many people willfully forget was one of Zab's mandatories) and Baldomir decided to face Gatti instead of one of his mandatories.
Trust me, these tournaments are nearly impossible to put together because it's nearly impossible to placate all of the mandatories. Then the undisputed champ wants a big money fight because of all of his belts but some mandatory wants it enforced. So, his fans come on message board spamming about how unfair boxing is, etc, etc.
The tournament would be nice, but what comes after it is ugly. We're at that point right now. It's been five years since the last time they unified the welterweight division.
cant forget what clottey did to margarito in the first 3 rounds before that hand injury (which hand was it? left?) in the 4th. and marg still wasn't able to knock him out.
people probably think of that fight when someone mentions clottey, and be like "oh yeah, he could've beat margarito".

lose to Margarito, beat bums, and be promoted by Bob Arum

It sucks Tony has to ditch his belt but neither one could have a belt and it would still be the biggest 147 lb fight out there as long as Floyd is doin other shit.
Talking about mandatories , when will Floyd face a mandatory??????????? or is he exempt for life?????????????????
Good point.. Unfortunately I heard that Hatton counted as a mandatory.
It's unfortunate that these political battles interfere with making a legit unification bout... But I guess thats too much to ask.
That is 100% correct. Clottey is the mandatory, but Margarito is going directly for Cotto. Whether that fight is for one or two titles won't make a difference of even one PPV buy. Arum is Clottey's promoter and he promised him a title shot that he'll now get.

Josh Clottey is promoted by Top Rank. The only way to get Cintron into the picture would have been for him to defend his belt against Margarito with the promise that the winner would get Cotto. Cintron didn't want the Clottey fight...he wanted a money fight.
But the problem is that Clottey had a title shot coming and it just wouldn't be right for Top Rank to screw it's own fighter over. So, Margarito is vacating for the right to face Cotto and Clottey gets to fight for a vacant title.
That way Arum keeps everyone somewhere near happy and he gets his big Cotto-Margarito PPV that he'd been waiting for. It all works out, but it does get confusing for fans.
i agree.in the meantime.......................

It has been stated the IBF will force him to vacate, since they have already granted voluntary defenses. Margarito will drop the belt for a big money fight and a chance at Cotto's belt.

On espn it states "Collazo could be in the picture to face Clottey for the belt Margarito will soon vacate." What the hell is that all about??

I don't see the point in this if it's true. Margarito held the WBO for how long? And it's universally recognized as the worst of the comissions. Cintron was what? IBF? That's leverage right there for a fight with Cotto, and it gives us a road towards a Welterweight unification.
