Still not sold on Margarito

Marg's haters will never give him credit. But even fans that aren't really big fans of his still respect him for bein a beast. People who got tired of the "most feared" thing will never stop talkin about the loss to Williams but Tony's come back strong and put himself back in position to get a shot at becoming the man at WW again.

You left out the close fight with Paul Williams, and a win over Joshua Clottey as well. Margarito's not the best Welterweight out there but he's certainly not the slouch his detractors make him out to be either. Well I thot the win over Golden Johnson eclipsed those wins but yea a close one with Paul and a win over Clottey (even tho i dont think he's so hot) are good too

Margarito is slow and pretty predictable, but you have to give the guy credit for his mental game. It's gonna be very hard to break him and with his high workrate and tough chin he's tough to deal with. I think Cotto will beat him, but it will be a good fight for the fans and not an easy night for Cotto.

Margarito's not that bad. You gotta remember that he doesnt have big wins becuase all of the big name refused to fight him besides Cotto. Cotto/Margarito is a fight fan's wet dream come true. Cotto is certainly the better of the two in terms of technical ability and experience fighting better opposition. However Cotto's body work is his trademark, if it doesn't knock you out it eventually wears you down later in the fight to set up a possible KO moment. I don't see any way Cotto can hurt Margarito. Margarito takes body shots extremely well, and I'm almost positive his chin could stand the test of a sledgehammer if need be. If Cotto is to win this fight he will have to rely on his boxing ability more so than his punching power and workrate.

I have Tony winning by TKO, can't really give you a solid reason, just a hunch.

Margarito is a solid fighter who can take punishment and is big and stong. But Cotto is on another level and his going to school Margarito in the art of boxing. Cotto's mental game is on another level, he is the smartest fighter out there. He is the total package and I just can't see anyone that can beat him. Margarito,Clottey, Mayweather just line up Cotto is going to take them down.

I saw him beat mentally by Willaims not badly but very unfocused same with the Clottey fight. He doesnt have one punch power and cotto doesnt either. they both have wear down power. Cotto is more heavy handed though. I DONT DISLIKE MARGARITO!!! I'm just laying out my opinion, I see cotto disecting Marg throughout the fight with a few MArg moments but not the FOY that people are expecting. That torso is just too long and open too f*ckin much for me to see Marg being effective when you have Cotto drilling your ribs round after round...It will slow him down a lot. Cotto will be the most feared fighter in that division after this fight if he isnt already...that vulnerablity that he carried with him last year is all but gone... You know what, I have only the highest respect for Cotto and if he wins big it wouldn't shock or upset me. I just think you might have been selling Margarito a little short. I didn't mean to seem like I took it personally. :D

as far as him being an elite fighter, i'm not sold on him either. he's a fine, fine champion, exciting to watch, and seems like a good dude overall. i just don't think he beats the fighters at that next level (cotto, mayweather, mosley, etc). 1 thing i noticed about the marg/cin fight: cintron's footwork is atrocious. tony was making the most basic moves (in some cases just stepping around cintron), and cintron would wind up totally out of position, off balance and open to be hit.

Cotto is technically superior, but I don't know how you can say he is any stronger mentally. And if he doesn't have one punch power, how did he score a one punch KO on Saturday? He is what he is. His 2 biggest victories were over Kermit Cintron. Thats not saying a lot. He loss to Paul Williams & Daniel Santos & has a total of 5 losses.

He does have power but not one punch power. His pressure is good but only against someone who can't keep their cool. I see cotto handling him actually easier then most people think. it's like slow motion watching him. I couldn't believe how long the punches would travel in that Cintron fight. I got up and made a sandwich before one of those long right hands landed. dude has no chance against a guy with speed.

you have to rememer that margarito doesn't seem to fade down the way he is fighting and in order for cotto to win he has to knock him out flat on his back which i don't see that happening; he is slow and is not balanced, it's ok but the work-rate round after round, it would on take mayweather to be able to handle that on defense mode all night and that's not gonna help at all......cotto's chin is not that good, and if you noticed cotto's lip after the gomez's fight he was cut and gomez didn't throw much imagine what margarito would do.....
