What is the general perception of British boxing, and indeed British people, over there in the United States?
I have always loved watching American boxers as, overall, they seem far more attack minded than boxers from the rest of the world.
I also love the American people because out of the literally hundreds of Americans that I have met, I have never met an American that was remotely unfriendly, or arrogant, or unhelpful.
To me people are just people. There are nice ones and there are idiots, no matter the geographical location.
What bugs me is how certain groups can throw up so much nationalistic pride over a boxer. They are just an individual who fights to earn a living, that is all.
I am a fan of the sport of boxing. I like fighters who I feel represent the sport in a positive light by taking on all comers, kick ass, take an ass kicking and keep fighting on.
Some Fans seem to be fans of particular fighters, motivated mainly by geographical location, in an almost obsessed and silly way, that they regard their fighters as the second coming.
I am not pointing fingers at all UK fans, most are fine, but some of them are just embarrassing. I could point my fingers at other countries also, who look upon a fighter as a representation of themselves. It is just really really silly.
But we do drink cold beer!
That is simply a fact.
It ain't a steretype man.
I googled this and ur right. Since the americans drink there beer freezing cold so compared to us it is warm. I thought they ment warm as in not even slighty cold.
What's the deal with European men dressing so metrosexual or in my mind gay looking. I think it's more French, Spanish, and Italian but overall it seems like they try to hard. Another thing I've noticed is that Euro men have much more feminine mannerisms than American/Aussie guys. These are generalizations and I'm not trying to rile anyone up. Feel free to voice your opinion on our dressing/mannerisms.
Whats the deal with the whole english drinking cold beer sterotype? By the way i am from england

Most American boxing fans, and I don't know that many, would say the British overhype their fighters a bit b/c of the size of the country. The only bad things I've heard about Brits are the common stereotypes: bad teeth and dry humor, maybe a little snotty. But when it comes down to it any American with half a brain appreciates Britain because of our history and knows they are our best ally hands down. Besides Canada(minus Quebec), I think Brit culture holds the most similarities mostly in shared principles and belief systems.
All Americans are fat and stupid.
We are all gay and with fucked up teeth.
Don't digress fuckers,
I wish all us British were fucking bum boys.
Then I could have all the women to myself.
As it is, I struggle badly. haha

Thanks for bowing down to your rightful conquerors and masters, America and it's wonderful people :D
Watched the Hatton fight with some fellow Brits in Sydney, and it was all pretty cool, I think perhaps some are cockier in certain environments, it's mostly big guy talk, not representative of the majority.
Before that the two friends had been in NY and also got some attention with they're accents. I've been to the US a few times, a common thing said, is that yanks can be in sincerely amiable, happy. Obviously I found that to be true in Disney Land but aside from that I'm not sure. Brits on the other hand are often too moody.
I reckon the Ozzies have a nice in between, which is why having been back for a month, I'm considering heading back to Melbourne, especially when there's hotties sparring in the park :D

It doesnt mater where a boxer is from. They just happened to be born some place so I dont get the pride wars between the USA and UK. I look at the accomplishments of fighters thats what pride should be based on...personal achievement.
That being said I like & respect both Joe C and Hatton both great fighters. Haye is exciting as well but well see how he does in the future. I am always hesitant to put too much faith in guys who normally get the quick KO.
:beerchug:
Any people that enjoy boxing are cool w/ me, and British people are serious about it. From Europe, you guys have the best talent in my eyes also.
Thank you very much for the replies, guys.

Americans are strange ,
when you meet them in real life there always cool, and happy and seem really nice and freindly
when you meet them on xbox live or the internet most are complete opasite especially in the Overall boxing section
the Americans that all go on the training & nutrition section are really cool and helpfull
Even recently people have been saying how it's been a bad period for British boxers due to recent losses like Hatton, Woods. But it's often not taken in context. Woods beat Johnson once whom performed the best at the weekend. So to lose to Tarver, he clearly didn't show up.
Hatton beat 2 good fighters in the US before losing the p4p no. 1.
If and when Calzaghe beats Hopkins, he'll start to eradicate some ignorances and scepticism, to start to be regarded out there, for what he is. Better still with recently poor performing Woods out the way, he could well have is last fight in yanksville. I also see Gavin Rees, Amir Khan, Hatton and others only getting better and earning more reputation this year!
British fighters are kinda under rated at times. I know several people who didn't have a clue about great British boxers such as Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank and their incredible rivalry, for example, and when they did a little digging in the vaults they became fans and thanked me for opening their eyes to them. It's the same with Calzaghe. Many people diss the guy, but I bet most of them don't know shit about Joe and have seen barely any of his fights! They read stupid comments made on boxing forums and follow up like a bunch of sheep, unable to make their own minds up, and endlessly repeating the same old crap like "Joe's just a Euro-bum", "he has fought nobody", "he slaps". It's very tiring to read over and over again.
I would honestly say that as far as boxing goes, just from people I've talked to, they think British fighters are overrated. Unless, of course, they prove that they aren't.
