Las Vegas, NV (April 4, 2008) - Multi-award winning artist Richard T. Slone has completed his latest painting, a pre-fight action painting of boxing champion Bernard Hopkins going toe to toe with unbeaten champion Joe Calzaghe. The two square off later this month in Las Vegas.
The acrylic on canvas masterpiece is 30 inches by 40 inches and has been masterfully created to pay homage to two of the greatest boxers of this era. The spectacular painting pits two linear champions against each other and is painted in typical Slone style, the viewer is placed right in the middle of the action as both boxers submerge in full combat prior to their upcoming ‘Superfight’ which will be held Saturday, April 19th, 2008 in the PH Ring at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The medley of colors and captured expression brings this canvas to life. The powerful flags of the Nations set the patriotic undertones for a fight of epic proportions. Slone’s choice of lines and color make this a bold statement and serve as a clear reminder why Slone was nominated for 2008 Sports Artist of the Year.
“This is one of the most intriguing fights in recent history. I had to paint it!” said Slone, who’s artwork is becoming a staple at high profile events around the globe. Collectors of his art range from celebrity clients and high-roller gamblers, to college kids who collect Slone designed apparel. Slone is best known for his vividly colored images that capture detailed expression and motion. Considered to be a leader in the new generation of sports artists, Slone follows a long tradition of artist’s who have painting boxing such as George Bellows, Thomas Eakins and in more recent decades, LeRoy Neiman.
The ‘Hopkins vs. Calzaghe’ artwork will be featured in the official event program. The Memorabilia Museum in Las Vegas will showcase a collection of Slone artwork during the month of April at the museum located inside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Richard T. Slone has been hailed by the media as the next great artist. His work is widely collected by art collectors and high-society. Owners of his originals include Donald Trump, Nelson Mandela, Hugh Hefner and Muhammad Ali. He is the official artist of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, an official artist of the UFC and at only 34 years of age is one of the most accomplished emerging artist’s in the world. Earlier this year the National Geographic came to an agreement to publish his work over the next ten years. He is nominated for Sports Artist of the Year 2008.

I've read Joe's autobiography got to read it again but I don't know the circumstances of his birth.
And he was born is Hammersmith which is the place of this masssive maternal hospital, I'm born there. Everyone I know was born there. It doesn't even mean he's from there.
Basically Joe is Welsh all the way. We can't steal him. lol
Nobody is saying that Big Joe is English purely because he was born in our capital city.
However, he certainly is British and he has stated his pride at that fact on many occasions.

Mine Wins!
Nice! At least it's 'real art' and not a computerized photo manipulation job. Good stuff Andy.
Speaking of fine art oil paintings this is what I call a masters work , John Sanden commands $75,000 per full size painting , I may be apples to oranges to Slone but what is he too this level .
The life and detail in Sandens work is amazing .

Awesome stuff dude, kinda looks like the rotoscoping they used on a scanner darkly.
That painting is truly magnificence.
The man obviously has a lot of talent.
I just hope that Big Joe can do the United Kingdom proud and show Bernard Hopkins just what a White boy can do, because we truly are all behind him (especially the Welsh!!), but I fear that Bernard Hopkins may just be too much for him as Big Joe has never, ever fought at Light Heavweight before in his life and Hopkins is a truly great fighter.
Thanks for looking everyone. I will tell Slone to check out this thread. He's currently working on another Joe Calzaghe peice in addition to a commission of Leona Lewis.
The things I would do to her; I would test her tone.
