I do think that Oscar plays a huge role in Floyd being as big as he is. That fight was basically the catalyst. If they would've never fought, he would just be recognized as the #1 p4p fighter in the world, but not a mainstream attraction. Mayweather is definately taking full advantage of it though, and who can blame him. Oscar got him started, but Floyd has certainly propelled himself to another level as far as mainstream popularity goes. Basically, Oscar put Floyd's foot in the door, but Floyd's the one who opened it and walked into the room.

Floyd is doing more for the sport than probably any other boxer out there. He gets time on ESPN, BET, Larry King, the E! Channel, dancing with the stars, and now the WWE and yall act like this is a bad thing. Boxing is being talked about more because of Floyd yet most of yall complain that hes a business man now and blah blah. Of course hes a business man and boxing fans should be thanking him. I think apart from the ring accomplishments, his legacy will go down as reviving the sport at a time MMA was making a move. Maybe he may not be fighting who yall want him to fight, but anything he does now is an event, and they mention boxing, I mean i dont think its a coincidence that boxing PPVs are doing bigger numbers now. If Floyd were to retire today boxing wouldnt be on the rapid rise like it is, so instead of crying that he wont fight so and so and he should just retire so the best can fight, I think yall should see the bigger picture and realize even if he is semi-retired and fighting once a year, everything he does gets attention for boxing and is making it again more mainstream, now is this really the guy yall want gone??? It's amazing that a fighter who has such a hand-picked resume as Floyd gets so much positive media attention. He's not really doing anything for the sport! People who watched Mayweather vs. De La Hoya said it was so boring they couldn't watch all of it. All Floyd has done is bring attention to himself. He's done nothing for the sport as a whole. The majority of casual fans cant stand him. He has a repulsive persona about him, and they dont really care for his safety first/defensive style. He's were he's at due to his very carefully protected 0. Once that's gone, so is his marketability. The only reason people are still tuning in to see him, is in hope that he loses or gets ktfo. Trust me, if Floyd had a 38-2 record, he will not be having any fights on ppv what-so-ever.

I know 5 people who started boxing in 2007 because of all the excitement of the Calzaghe fight and Hatton to some extent. Boxing is back in Britain.i know 10 guys who would never watch a mayweather fight unless he fought a guy with a name bBIGGER than mayweather....like COTTO or another meaningfull opponent and we dont watch mayweather cuz he is a boreing runner!!!

Floyd's done a great job at attracting the attention of some new fans but he's pissing off existing die-hards of boxing with some of this shit. I've always said to his haters since he's new to being on top and lovin it let the man make his cheddar for the time being. But within the next year no more extra-curricular bullshit: fight the best or vacate your throne and get outta the way so other guys who are fighters first everything else second can fight for it.

Even if I hated Floyd I would have to respect this post. It will be the "I know we said we want him to leave forever but I want him to come back!" factor. Without Floyd boxing isn't as popular as it would be with him, end of. He isn't the only one I commend all the fighters who are carrying this sport at the moment. Calzaghe and Hatton made it big in the UK again too. That is true, their followings and abilities to sell out stadiums must be applauded. I shouldve stated in the US. I mean I say Calzaghe has fought bums, but even by beating those bums haha, he was able to sell out stadiums, and while it may not be the best fights out there that the fans want, he made his fans happy and in the process helped boxing grow. Id much rather have the sport grow, because when the best do fight it will be that much bigger and accepted as mainstream. Of course the Hopkins fight couldve happend years ago, but it probably wouldve meant very little and at least now its a major event.
