this place is full of talk about all these dudes being scared to fight other dudes. sorry, but i have a hard time believing any pro boxer is so scared of a man that he will not fight him. especially when you talk about the elites, floyd, hatton, etc... it is thrown around here so often it seems like every other fighter is afraid to lace the gloves up anymore. just want to know your thoughts on all the scared talk? i know everyone gets nervous b4 a fight, and such. i am not saying that. i am talking about avoidance of fights all together out of fear.
Why should any man who bleeds red blood like I do be feared? Being nervous and being scared are two different things. Being nervous before a fight is understandable but to be scared of another man is unacceptable to me.
So if you were drunk and walked into a dark alley and had a gun pointed at your face you would only be nervous, not scared??
I agree with you guys that are saying certain fighters are scared because of a loss, but scared of another fighter I don't think so. I hate it when people on here say a certain fighter is scared because they don't fight somebody or pull out. It's about money pretty much everytime. People got to realize that in today's boxing it's a business as well. As most sports are today. It sucks, but that's the reality.
very true my man, good post.
Boxers are not in it alone..when u hear that so and so doesnt want to fight a guy it is more often the decision of a manager or promoter behind him...People have NO IDEA what goes into making fights sometimes, into what it takes to be ready, etc. Sometimes a fight is agreed upon but then the contract comes in and there is something in it that throws a monkey wrench in. Especially at that level, the highest ones, these guys and their backers are BUSINESSMEN...a fighter cannot just fight everybody he wants to fight because if he were to lose there are more people in the picture -behind the scenes- who would lose out. The fighter doent always have the final say like many think
thanks for this, to many it seems like common knowledge, and it is what it is. do we like it? hell no, but it's usually not the fighters fault. but than on the other side you have so many people who just start running out the mouth with the he is scared/ducking comments. that sort of thing gets very old around here, well at least to me it does.
Yes Spinks got in the ring but because he was scared he didn't perform and got KOed in 91 seconds. Spinks should have never taken the fight if he was going to be that scared to freeze up like that.
Good old Michael "To tell you the truth, I'm not too crazy about getting in the ring with that man" Spinks. What did he make that night? Like 10 million dollars a minute?

What many fans assume is fear can always be resolved by the the right amount of money. No matter what hype you hear or read, money is always the bottom line to getting any fight made. This is a business more than a sport of honor.
yes very true, but he still got in the ring and fought him, thqats what i mean. scared is natural in many cases, but scared enough to not climb in against someone in most cases to me is far fetched.

There are some certain situation when a fighter is genuinely scare of what would happen if he takes a certain fight and loses, Hatton for example is DEFINITELY scared to take on Witter because if he loses his career would be over..If they guarantee him a win against Witter yes he would take the fight but its a fight he CANNOT afford to lose, Because he takes on Mayweather or tsyzu doesnt mean he isnt scared also, When you take a fight people expect you to lose then you're NOT risking anything.
Who wasn't afraid of Mike Tyson back in the day? He is the epitome of a bad ass boxer, not to be fucked with. I can't imagine being the other fighter waiting, waiting and anticipating him walking to the ring.
Remember, this is the guy that said he's gonna eat your babies and what not. lol

Even though the fight was actually made Michael Spinks was scared of Mike Tyson.

Many fighters want to maximize the income and minimize the risk by taking on lesser threats for good money.
It is like a business rather than a sport.
Kessler may well be scared of Miranda. Dude is ferocious. There something so primal in Miranda and he sees it. The way Miranda fights and his inherent punching power is something to fear. He is a risk and he is dangerous.
Kessler (by his own words) was looking forward to the fight with Miranda but trusted in his manager's judgement to go for other (possible world title) opportunities without even looking at the contract that was being offered.
It's not always about the fighters but rather the managers and the promoters.
I have seen a few of his fights and besides being a good boxer he has got a great fighter mentality. After my opinion he has only lost one fight as he was robbed against Arthur Abraham in Germany.
I'm really looking forward to fight again even though it's a short notice.
My manager chose to cancel the fight against Edison Miranda because the contract didn't fulfill our demands. I haven't seen the contract my self, but I have full confidence with my manager's choice.

I agree for the most part. What Kessler did sure made him look scared though didnt it? I mean all the stipulations for one, then the fact that they pulled out for no reason.

That would be a Crucial fight for Kessler and if he did end up losing it, which is highly possible, his career won't be the same. Team Kessler chose not to risk it and take another bout instead, something safer (pussy).
I can see Kessler v Miranda happening later which would make bigger impact for both men, thing is, both have to keep winning.
you make a valid point, but if i may refute or clarify -
if you talkin about a fighter like Mike Tyson - i'm sure there were many opponents who were "scared" of him.
more relevant - if you talking about Floyd Mayweather Jr., when people say he's "scared" to fight, oh I don't know - Miquel Cotto - what they are mainly referring to is that Floyd does not take any risks in fighting someone who is a danger, is on his level or higher. He is "scared" to lose. He is essentially SCARED to risk his undefeated record and the status of P4P. That's why he's giving the public stupid shit like Mayweather v Big Show, and the rematch with De la Hoya and Hatton.
i don't think it's that they're scared of getting beaten up, but that they're scared of the impact it would have on their career if they were to lose
that's how i look at it in most cases anyway
