I know it's old news but I just watched the replay last night and guess what: Katsidis won in the sixth round: Joel was knocked out of the ring onto the ring apron and was not back in the ring after what would be a ten count. The referee stopped counting at nine while Joel was still stepping through the ropes.
Of course he rallied magnificently to win by a spectacular knockout but even so I think the referee made a mistake that cost Katsidis a monumental win. I would like to see a rematch, it was a great fight.
Perhaps, I always thought Buster Douglas was given too much time in the Tyson fight and should have been counted out. Doesn't matter much at this point though. Katsidis is young, he'll be back.
Are you referring to Nate Campbell
No Casamayor will take an ass whooping against someone like Pacquiao, Campbell or Juan Diaz I think personally. Pacquiao is a smarter fighter than Katsidis and I believe his speed and power will overwhelm Casamayor. Diaz can both brawl and outbox Casamayor and Campbell beating Diaz at his own game speaks for itself.
The same could happen to Campbell but his performance was more impressive to me at least then Casamayors.
Casamayor will never give Katsidis a rematch. I've said it before, all he wants is a big payday and then I think he's done. He barely got past Katsidis who is anything but a 'boxer' and I think he knows that. He'll take his ass whooping against someone big and call it quits.

I asked a licensed Aussie referee and he said , they have 20 seconds if knocked out of the ring onto the floor , if its onto the ring apron he has 10 seconds to return to ring unaided , he hasnt seen the incident as his sopcast was playing up but he going to find it to have a look ,,,
katsidis has a message on his myspace from someone who was ringside at the fight saying 'casamayor was aided back into the ring' message me if you want to know more
anyways i dont think he was out and he was right to fight within 10 seconds.. that's all that matters really without the technicalities..
my only other comment is katsidis probably wouldnt have complained if the ref counted to a thousand.
Like I said it was a classic fight, easily a contender for FOTY. I would like to see a rematch though for sure. The long count added to the drama. But really for all the people (and they were out there) who said that Katsidis was "exposed"... well he could have won if the referee knew how to count.

He has to be up AND in the ring or he is counted out. Cassamayor was on his feet but climbing through the ropes when the referee counted nine and then the ref stopped counting.
I agree with that part because if the highlights that i have seen the referee was at 9 when Casamayor was climbing through the ropes, Now i dont know if he should have continue counting or not but i think he gave Casa the benefit of doubt because he seem clear headed when he cameback in.
I really like Katsidis but he shouldnt have rushed in all the time, I bet if he had taken his time and just go to the body like he was doing earlier he could have won but he just too a page out of Hatton's book and he got punished for it.
Maybe because he was up, coherent, and clearly just stepping into the ring by 8, not 9, by 8.
Totally agree with you, He did step on the apron at 8 bend/step through the rope at 9 and i think thats why the referee stops the count.

LOL katsidis was exposed, if anything he showed a lot of heart, after losing the first rounds he came back big, dropping casa after tasting the canvas 2 times. i'm pretty impressed with katsidis - that fight was the first time i've seen him, he doesn't claim to be the best boxer out there, the kid just says he wants to be the next gatti. he's got the heart of gatti for sure
I watched it again, Casamayor made it back in exactly 10 seconds. The time he gets ko'd out of the ring is 32 seconds, and then he gets back in the ring exactly 22 seconds. So, I think it counts that he made it back? For some reason it felt longer when I watched the fight live

In case you didn't know the rules. When a boxer falls outside of the ring, he has 20 seconds to get back in, not 10.
Well, it don't matter if katsidis got robbed at that point of the fight since katsidis hasn't been complaining about that from what I've heard. We shouldn't have to complain for fighters, if they felt like they got cheated at that time then he should have said after the fight was over.

I think when you're knocked to the apron, it's just like you got knocked down in the ring, so you get 10 seconds to get up. It's only when you're knocked to the floor do you get 20 seconds. But don't hold that to me. But yeah, had they broken the rules, Katsidis' team would've said something.
You're correct, Lederman said that if a fighter gets knocked down to the apron, a fighter has 10 seconds to get back into the ring.

I thought the ref even counted longer then 20 seconds, but I could be wrong. Because he was counting ridiculously slow.

I pointed this out already but someone pointed out that the refs allowed to do that, i forget why. And if the ref wasn't allowed to do what he did, then I'm sure Katsidis's camp would have pointed that out and that loss would have been changed to a win on Katsidis's record.
