I was wondering if you have been and sat in the nosebleeds? Can you see anything at all? I'd couldv'e gone to Spinks-Phillips in STL but didn't really have the expendable cash. I really kicked myself in the ass when I had a chance to go to Diego Corralles last fight in Springfield, MO three hours away. Not only could I have had a great seat but it was his last fight before he passed. No good fights ever come to my area. Also, are seats behind the camera crew really cheap?
I sat in the nosebleed section to see Holyfield fight Fres Oquendo in the Alamo Dome. It is great to be at a big fight, but the fighters were so far away it was like watching it on a really small TV.
It was worth it though to see The Real Deal.
Thats the best view
Its the sound of live boxing, someone getting hit hard, that just doesn't come accross very often on screen. I can't afford to get up close with pro fights, but we get a lot of Amateur tournaments where you can get to the front.
Saying that a big widescreen is better than being in the very back row in a 50,000 capacity stadium with a a freakishly tall guy sat right in front of you!! LOL
Personally, i prefer watching a boxing match while sitting right in front of my giant flatscreen. That is unless im able to get REALLY good seats. Im talking about 1st 10 rows.
Thats the best view
I was in the nosebleeds for COTTO-MOSLEY at MSG. They are decent. Its hard to see.
But when u are at a fight with an electric environment, like a Cotto fight or a DLH fight or a Pacquiao fight, etc, its DEFINETLY worth it no matter where u sit. THe electricity is something to behold, you get it at absolutely no other sporting event including the superbowl.
The only place its better is at Yankee Stadium during a playoff game. thats it
agreed 100%
i went to morales v. pacman 2 and corrales v. castillo 2 and the atmosphere was insane. after you go to a fight with a great atmosphere you get addicted. i can't wait to go to another fight.
I've been to
Vernon Forrest vs. Shane Mosley II
Zab Judah vs. Cory Spinks II
Lamon Brewster vs. Andrew Golota
Fernando Vargas vs. Javier Castillejo
Sandro Marcos vs. Johnny Tapia
Nicolay Valuev vs. Monte Barrett
Verno Phillips vs. Cory Spinks
Can anyone think of any big fights in KC or STL in recent history?? Maybe Tommy Morrison in KC back in the day?? I know Memphis and Chicago have had a few but they are both over six hours away. They have a bunch of junk low level MMA that I would pay not to see. All the action goes east and west.
Spinks has fought 3 times in St. Louis recently - vs. Judah II, vs. Karmazin, vs. Phillips
Verno Phillips vs. Carlos Bojourquez and Jeff Lacy vs. Vitali Tyspko I were on the same Showtime card from Joplin, MO. back in 2004 (Bojourquez was a replacement for Kassim Ouma)

If you're sitting in the nosebleeds, all you're paying for is the atmosphere. You're going to be looking at the big screen the whole fight. A good pair of binoculars is a decent option that I've used.
I went to the Alamodome last year when Manny fought Jorge Solis, that was when Arce got whooped by a then relatively unknown Christian Mijares. Sosa also upset " The Hawaiian Punch " that night. Great night of fights, but I sat nosebleed and couldn't really see anything. I found myself watching the jumbo-tron most of the night. Don't get me wrong though, nothing compares to a live atmosphere, especially when it's Mexico vs. Phillipines. Plus every true fan should get to hear Michael Buffer live at least once.

They didn't have anyone seated above the luxury boxes for that card. I saw my first fight in the upper deck at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis - and that is a steep, steep climb. Mainly watched the jumbo tron rather than the fighters. Been ringside or at least on the floor at every major event since then...
i go to local fights all the time, which are always in small intimate venues, so you can always see just fine. ive been to a few fights at foxwoods and mohegan sun and, from what i can tell, there isnt a bad seat in the house.
there are some shitty seats even when you're sitting in the first 10 rows, usually i like being between 10-20 rows, just because it's eye level with the ring, and usually no obstruction. nothing is worse than having floor seats and you're sitting behind the ring post or the camera man is standing right in front of you, totally waste of money, it's sucks, i've been there a few times before, not fun.
but if you get seats that are right on the side those are good when you're down on the floor seats.
but like i said, i like the seats that are eye level with the ring, you can see everything, hear all the hits, and not much is in your way blocking your view.
as for sitting up in the nose bleeds, yeah that can suck but you can still see, it's not like sitting in a nose bleed at a baseball game or something, boxing arenas aren't that big. some are, but that is for the rare massive fights, and if you're going to one of those, its more for the experience of being there live, they have the big screens so you can see stuff or catch the replay between rounds.
but the most important thing of why you go to fights live, is the atmosphere, the energy in the air, there is nothing like it. i've been to all sorts of professional sports and there is nothing like the atmosphere of a live prize fight, especially if the crowds are going off with supporting their fighter, no matter who it is.
i'll leave you with this, i've been to some sweet fights before, good fights with great crowds. then i went to a fight that was just a great match up, not a whole lot of crowd and it wasn't a fanatical crowd either, it was Corrales vs Castillo 1, and i will tell you, that during that fight, the air was beyond electric, and the whole crowd had goose bumps during the fight, i know i did, but when the fight was over and everyone was walking out, all you could hear was how everyone was amazed and blind sided on how good a fight that was, everyone was, including me was euphoric about what we all just witnessed, it was one of the greatest experiences in my life and i remember it like it just happened, and i know that everyone that was there that night has something similar to say about that great night in boxing history.................
it's that kind of stuff why you go to prize fights live if you can..................
When you get a ticket in the nosebleeds, you immediately sneak down as close as you can get to the ring. Make friends with an usher or two, and you'd be surprised how many empty seats open up, even in some sold out events.
Nothing beats paying $25 for $200 ticket!
I've been known to do that, also never a bad idea to buy the tickets right outside the event. People always have friends that don't show up and have to sell the tickets there, I've gotten ringside tickets for 50 bucks or atleast half off most the time.
Being at a fight is far better than watching it on tv regardless.
The energy and excitement makes up for being far away.
Also, if the place isnt packed you may be able to sneak down and get some better fights, I had nosbleed tickets to Hatton v Collazo, but snuck down to about the 15th to 20th row and had amazing seats, right near IceMan John Scully, a bunch of the pats players (seymour, harrison) and some sox players, (wells and papelbon).
The atmosphere was amazing (brits and puerto rican fans were really passionate, it was great)
This one guy next to me was a huge Collazo fan and after each round he would ask me who won because he admitted he was too baised to judge the fight. I was rooting for Ricky but Collazo put on a gutsy preformance, what a great fight and a great night.
moral of the story...go to a live fight if you can.

Nothing in sports compares to a great live fight, as a Boxing fan I go to plenty of local fights and have been to a few majors, I recomend it to any boxing fan.
The view should be fine. It will be hard to tell which blows are actually landing, so if there is a flurry thrown it might look as if all the punches landed.
Too bad that there is not enough boxing events for you over there.
