I hear people on hear sayin alot about Floyd and thats ok but lets be real and not dumb for a minute...
1. Running from Antonio Margarito: Lets be honest is this guy someone who is going to affect Floyd's leagcy when he retires just because he didnt fight him....Simply put NO...i mean the guy has 5 losses and 4 were to bums and 1 to an overrated annorexic. He was never the lineal champ in any weight class and yall act like the man is a multi division champ.
2. Ducking Cotto: Hmmm i really dont see how Floyd is ducking this man and Cotto really just got on the seen. Judah and Mosley are his only 2 victims...and who else again.....Floyd is rite he never said he wouldnt fight cotto he just said that he is waiting for Cotto to become a bigger name(whats wrong with that).
3. Fights to cautious: i mean alot of people say Floyd is boring..so hmmm let me see...do u want him to b entertaining like Roy Jones and get what Roy got or end up like one of the greatest of all time (ALi). If the man fights cautious let him be as long as he is winning fights. I mean this is one of the most brutal sports.
4. Fights none of the best welterweights: i spoke on Cotto earlier..but besides him who else is he gon fight and it is goin to b an hard fight for Floyd. Cintron? please.... P Williams.....all i need to say is Quintana
5. Fighting Big Show for 20 million: can u guys give Floyd a break on this one...wrestling nowadays is acting to the fullest...do u really think Floyd would take the risk of getting seriously hurt...i doubt it...and who wouldnt do this for the kind of payday he is getting.
All im saying is people need to give Floyd a break and let him be. Lets not critize such a great boxer so harshly.
didnt Marvin hagler call out Leonard first? I could have sworn that Leonard played hard to get for a while untill he submitted.
Yes but that's not the point. Take the whole post I wrote into context and think about what I was getting at. Marvin Hagler is one of the greatest Middleweight's of all times and SRL isn't. Yet SRL defeated him and technically retired him even though Hagler thought he was robbed. But All-time great wise, SRL is P4P consered a greater fighter then Hagler.
What I'm saying is, Floyd will not go down as an all-time great welterweight who cleaned out his division. The best you can expect of him is fight the next best guy who could be Cotto. But is Cotto that guy when you still have guys like Margarito/Cintron knockin on the door? Cotto is scheduled to fight the winner of that fight if he beats Gomez. Let's see if Cotto is that guy is all I'm saying.
Did Sugar Ray Leonard work his way up or earn his shot for the Middleweight title against Hagler? No Hagler cleaned out the division and Leonard fought the best middleweight and defeated him.

Yeah and that, just to be clear, wasn't directed at you. The guy who kept referring to every reasonable critic OR hater as simply haters. His type annoys the hell out of me.
I think it's great that Mayweather wants to make money. Few fighters have the chance to make as much. But, for people to act like Cotto needs to be the one to clean out the division is insane. Mayweahter has done this at 130, but this is 147. He should be atleast working towards Cotto. It seems as if he's not. Fought the 140 champion, then the 154 fighter (twice, most likely). He's not even touching the 147 division, yet holds a title. I'm just saying it'd be nice if he gave Cotto a hand.

Perhaps this is a extreme comparison but Floyd is not a true welterweight. He is more known as a P4P best then Welterweights best. This is Cotto's second division. He is the the younger more active fighter. If anybody is gonna clean out the welterweight division against the non-great yet solid 147lb contenders, it's Cotto. And then Floyd will be the Leonard to Cotto's Hagler where he steps in and fights the main guy.

Furthermore, Floyd doesn't claim that he's waiting for him to be a great fighter, he waits on him to be a bigger star. He's a big enough star that the matchup could happen, and would make sense.
Floyd can't claim to be the biggest star. If he thinks he still needs a big name to draw. Time to prove all the shit he talks.
I'm not defending what Floyd says. It's how I see it. Clearly the guy either has issues or he is soo deep into this Money Mayweather persona that he can't see clearly.
Either way, he needs a public speaker to speak on his behalf. As cocky as he is, he is one dimensional verbally. He needs some lessons from Bernard Hopkins on how to get your point across in front of the cameras.
What I find interesting about a Mayweather fan is that they claim he's the best and can beat anyone. Yet, look for ANY REASON for him to avoid his toughest fights. It's as if they want him to say he's the best without having to prove it.
They have this logic of, Why fight? He'd win anyway? If that's the case, then shouldn't he just retire? It's really the dumbest form of 'logic' that I've ever heard of. Quite sad.
I agree with that. Despite my defense for Floyd Mayweather, I'm not on the same level of thinking as the thread creator or the Horus's of the world.
I actually find those guys a little annoying just like some of the more extreme and more devoted Floyd Haters. They shit all over their points with some of the shit they say.

ive pointed this out a million times with no response. its like kryptonite to them.
I seem to not have a problem with the first post. So I'm gonna assume, just for a moment that you agree with most parts of it. The problem then becomes if there are no names for Mayweather to beat at WW, who is Cotto supposed to beat in order to BECOME bigger. Wouldn't he NEED to fight Mayweather? Or is the number one contender just supposed to clean out the division for the champion, and finally get a shot? That's not how it GENERALLY works. It's happened. But a champion is supposed to actually be the one cleaning up. Taking on everyone who people think can beat him. It's impossible, but that's the point. You fight until you have proven once and for all that you're the best in that division. Mayweather has not. Cotto is ACTUALLY cleaning up what Mayweather has yet to even start doing.
That DOESN'T help Floyds legacy. What WOULD help him is if he fought the young, hungry fighters. Regardless of how much money they make him.
What Cotto is doing right now at welterweight, Floyd has done at 130 years ago, defending a WBC title against super-featherweight contenders. Lets not forget who has the more established record here despite their 30-0 and 39-0 unbeaten numbers.
Imo, only thing left for Cotto to do is fight that Cintron/Margarito winner. If successful, there is nothing else but Floyd. Are the Margarito/Cintron's great? No but they're the next best guys behind Cotto and Mayweather. Why ask the #1 guy Floyd to fight the # 3 and #4 guy when the # 2 guy Cotto can do it and add more credibility to his 2nd best status?
If Cotto does that, Floyd has no choice but to fight him and no reasonable fan could defend him.

Yes it does if you forget about Cotto's star power and focus on his status as a fighter. Is Miguel Cotto considered a great fighter right now? Because if he isn't then it would be better to make him wait and let him become great so when you defeate him, you get the proper credit for beating not just a young very good fighter but a great fighter.

Although you have some points, the problem comes into play when you contradict certain aspects of your own argument.
You claim his legacy wouldn't be HELPED by fighting Margarito, which I agree with in a CERTAIN SENSE. You then claim, however, that nothing is wrong with fighting for the money, in a round about way. Claiming that he's just waiting on Cotto so that he's a bigger star. Does that help his legacy either?
.

2501,
You are getting the time lines mixed up homeboy. When Floyd fought Gatti, he was at 140 fighting under the Top Rank unbrella. A Margarito-Mayweather fight wasn't even discussed at that time. It was after Floyd defated Zab Judah and parted ways with Top Rank that Bob Arum came knocking with a 8million Margarito offer and at that point Floyd had no interest of doing any business with Arum as he was trying to do business with Golden Boy.
Yo r so rite.....all Arum wants to do is pair one of his fighters up wit Floyd just so he can see Floyd lose and have that under his belt....

thanx, like ive said before, i havent really cared much for margarito. i mean, i like the way he fights, but i just cant get on the bandwagon for some reason. i havent even seen these videos were he is supposedly confronting Floyd. so i dont know in detail what the situation is with him.
i woulda fought Gatti over Marg as well. too good of an opportunity to pass up.

I am not going to lie some of the shit he is spewing is REALLY starting to irk my nerves. REALLY, like "I might just leave boxing for WWE" I mean shit that shouldn't be taken seriously but what's the need to say it in the first place.
Lol yea i didnt like that he said that either but i still think Floyd is so caught up in his stardom....
This is All fine.... He just needs to drop the Belt.. he hasn't legitimately defended in a year and half.. and counting.. and let the guys who WANT to be WelterWeight boxers get on with things..
As a fan of boxing .. it hurts a bit to say this.. But I think it's Time Floyd just went away.. and got on with whatever dreams of stardom he has.. I think he has outgrown Boxing.. I mean even some his most hardcore fans are starting to smell the FISH >
