I voted Malignaggi's star power....He will NEVER be a big star or top draw in boxing because of one reason....He punches like a little girl.
:lol1: :lol1:
He did buckle and rattle Cotto though.. Incredibly..
And when I say buckle; he got Cotto to dip and dance a little bit.
He hurt him.
But I fully agree, WLAD. :fing02:
i think If Hopkins was a natural 147lbs fighter he would probably still have beaten Tito at 147lbs anyway so i suppose its irrelevant
I concur, good point.
Indeed, although it's hard to pin the 147 figure on Trinidad in such explicit terms when he's demonstrated devastating knockout power at 160, and a strong and respectable performance against Roy Jones at 170.
When Hopkins took Trinidad apart that night both guys were the same size, and there's no clever way around it..
Bernard has grown into his 175 frame in impressive, surprising fashion. To talk about him being this natural lt. heavy when the solid majority believed he was too small for Tarver is an abuse, and 20/20 hindsight at it's fullest.

when u consider Hopkins is a natural LHW who has been boiling down from 175 lbs to 160 lbs nearly his whole career it makes his victorys over Oscar & Tito even more questionable 2 guys who are naturally only 147 lbs

I agree, and don't get me wrong - I'm wearing a Bernard Hopkins T-shirt as I sit here typing this.. HaHA.. No joke..
However, does Bernard deserve to be referred to as a "living legend" in these kinds of terms with some of the other great active and retired fighters out there?... This is largely based on his defenses, and even though I'm way more with Team Hopkins than Team Calzaghe at this point everything Joe says about De La Hoya, Trinidad, Tarver, ect. is completely true. Joe is right, and he's right to question the legend hype..
This legend stuff is going to stick, and 25 years from now people will be very confused by it. Tarver by the way is the one who built this legend theme for Hopkins with his "Legend Killer" MO during promotion for their fight.. Someone in here said it was because Bernard says it.. Alot of people have been saying it, but it started with Tarver.

Hopkins is a future hall of famer no doubt. living legend mite be a bit forward but if he isnt who active is?

Hmmm all those choices are good and valid I guess it would be (for me) hopkins greatness.
good thread tho.
Go watch the behind the glory thing on him an see what you think then. :)
Anyway i voted for Antonio "Only regarded cause he knocked a shot roy jones out" tarvers skill of lack there of.
Other: Mayweather's "Greatness"
I dont get how a P4P king can be so defensive and boring. Hes a smart boxer, but not the best.
Do you realize who was ranked #1 p4p before Mayweather?
Bernard Hopkins.
After Jones lost to Tarver in the rematch, these are the fights the p4p king at the time, Bernard Hopkins, had.
-Robert Allen 3
-Oscar De La Fishnet
-Howard Eastman
-Jermaine Taylor
B-Hop as p4p king made Floyd Mayweather look like Matthew Saad Muhammad in excitement.
Hopkins' legend might just take the cake. At least at this point.
How the fuck is he a damn legend? :lol1:
I love that guy, but shiiiit..
Listening to the British press calling him a "living legend" in the run-up for the Calzaghe fight just feels creepy..
Tarver's alleged 'talent' is also offensive. It's an insult.

Sex weakens you physically as a boxer.

Fuck Tarver. He had a damn good performance against Glen Johnson in the rematch but that's about it. He's an asterisk on RJJ's resume, but he has no identity of his own without that 1 punch wonder night.
Myths:
Marvin Hagler was a brawler: brought upon by casual/new boxing fans who haven't seen many of his fights.
Jake LaMotta was a skilless defensive brawler with power: brought upon by a great film, or people watching clips of an old LaMotta, or the 6th fight with Robinson.
George Foreman was dominating Muhammad Ali before he fatigued: Ali was countering Foreman's dumbass off the ropes with nice clean right hands all night long. Foreman got owned by Ali plain and simple.

roy jones, pernell whitaker, bernard hopkins and floyd. They hel P4P king stats, they were all very defencive, and or pot shot fighters
for me the most common misconception that a hell of a lot of people subscribe to is that Dela Hoya was robbed against Trinidad ,cause wether u believe Dela Hoya won the fight or not it was a very close fight
i also agree with Addison about Shane Mosley lack of ring intelligence ,i have seen exactly the same thing u have seen Addison regarding Mosley he can be a bit One Dimmensiinal against the right oponent very true
I'm fully with you on that, Terrible.. :beerchug: Shane has shown flashes of utter brilliance, and flashes of utter stupidity - and in life the rules are if you do something stupid; you're stupid. I don't think Shane deserves to get away with both and still be considered a Boxing savant. Some people think Mayorga looked better against Vargas than Shane did.. And we're talking about choices, not execution. That's not good.
