The reff in this fight is gonna take alot of criticism for his so called early stoppage of the fight. The argument being made is that if it was any other fighter the stoppage would have been warranted but because he is michael katsidis and in all likly hood could have fought on an possibly still could have won it shouldnt have been stopped. All i can say to this is it makes no sense. A refferee has to give all fighters a fair shake, the ref idealisticaly would no nothing about either fighter thus making him completly unbiased, i think the reff in the situation he was in made the propper call to stop the fight. Do I beleave a guy like katsidis has the heart and will to fight on? Yes i do, but he was hurt, any other fighter couldnt have and why should he get speacial treatment by the refferee. A great warrior he is, but NOONE in boxing deserves speacial treatment, The reff made a completly unbiased call, which is all boxing fans realy want isnt it?
I thought it was a decent stoppage, & a pretty clear example of Katsidis's inexperience.
Got up immediately after the knockdown, & tried to go straight up to Casamayor when he got up.
No attempt to wait to the count reaches 8 or 9 while trying to collect himself, no attempt to try & hold on when the count ends,
basically no attempt at all to try & buy time while pulling himself back together & was still clearly on queer street at the time of the stoppage.
If you are badly hurt & not intelligently defending yourself, the referee's job is to stop the fight, & Katsidis wasn't. End of story.
Now Casamayor in a similar position would of waited until the count reached 9, then grabbed, shoved, stuck his head in his opponents face & held on for dear life, & that's experience.
Hopefully Katsidis will learn.
I was actually surprised the referee let it go on when Katsidis got up, because when he told Katsidis to walk to him, Katsidis' legs were clearly gone and he was wobbly. I guess he wanted to give Katsidis the benefit of the doubt because of his reputation of being able to overcome such obstacles but when he got hit by another left hand followed by the right and was shook up again, he had to stop it. Good stoppage.
I had it 85-82 Casa, which is pretty much what that entire FightJudge site had. Katsidis won rounds 4-6 on my card and that was it. I had no stock in either guy and I'm no fan of either. If anything, I'm not a fan of Katsidis and I've never liked Casa.
2 things
1. The ref gave him a RIDICULOUS amount of time to recover after the first knockdown and Katsidis still stumbled into him, so he clearly was in no condition to defend himself
2. How anybody could have Katsidis up on points at the time of the stoppage is baffling to me
First of all, between the Katsidis knockdown of Casa and the point deducted for a low blow from Casa, it cancelled out the two knockdowns in the first round. Are you trying to say it was not a competitive and close fight otherwise?
The people that were saying the referee shouldn't have stopped it, those are the people that keep me up at night. Those are the people that should be under surveillance from the government because they are clearly sick people. They are the ones that as children were hurting animals and setting off M-80s in kittens' assholes.
LOL! Either that or they don't understand what taking a huge punch like that feels like. They assume since these guys are professional boxers they are superhuman and take punishment beyond a normal human being usually can. Like you said earlier they are human and safety must come first.
I was upset when Andy Lee lost and though it was bad stoppage, but when I think about it now it was the right choice because Andy was badly hurt. I'd rather see him take a loss than be seriously hurt. In the end I think the people that complain about questionable stoppages are the ones that had a lot of money on that fighter.

I agree with u, i mean, michael katsidis IS an amazing human being, but enouph is enouph, He had no buisness taking any more punishement. PEople who complain about the stoppage, are the people who give boxing a bad name
He was definitely wobbly. I mean after you see him get up after the KD he's pretty much out of it and can't steady himself. Im suprised he didn't stop it then, that's where I thought the ref gave him a chance because he was Michael Katsidis. He gave him that chance, but he rightfully stepped in, before it got worse.

I know people with significant amounts of cash on Katsidis who didn't complain about the stoppage. He shouldn't of walked into Casamayor's left. He was WINNING the fight on 2 of the judges cards. If he'd just of chilled he probably would of won.
This is the thing, Katsidis has shown that he can come back and turn a fight around, but a human is a human. Katsidis was wobbly, unsteady, and about to hit the canvas again when the ref intervened. How was the ref supposed to assume that Katsidis was going to rebound from this devastating injury he was receiving in the ring? The referee allowed Katsidis an opportunity to rebound after the knockdown but Katsidis was gone and had no legs, perfect stoppage.
It just seems that there are a lot of sadistic fans that want to see a guy beaten to a shitty pulp and screwed up for life.
