Its obviously that this kid's got talent. amazing speed and power. great footwork and all.
so when do you guys reckon he'll capture a belt. i mean one of the big 4 belts (wbc, wba, ibf, wbo). i reckon he'll get one on his 15th fight.
I believe he will fight 4-5 more times before he gets a title shot.
He's actually ranked #5 at featherweight by the WBA (belt holder: Chris John) and #8 at superfeatherweight by the WBC (belt holder: Manny Pacquiao).
I don't think he'll get a shot at Manny's belt, unless Manny moves up in weight and gives it up (which looks like what's going to happen). In that case, Marquez would probably fight for the vacant belt, maybe against Antillon, Humberto Soto, or Rocky Juarez. I don't know if Marquez would give him a shot unless he's a mandatory, tho, so that might take a while.
His best bet is to fight Chris John in Indonesia and risk a robbery there.
I say by the beginning of next year, but wouldn't be suprised if it happen at the end of the year. The only guy at FW that I think would beat him would be Linares. Even then he still might win. What a matchup that would be though Gamboa/Linares.
now thats a fight.. hopefully it gets made..
This year he will win the belt, hes got the skills to be the next huge thing in the feather/superfeatherweight division and his promotor has already stated hes ready for the title and he hes gona get it him this year, and hes on the right track, his promotor just got Gamboa a joint deal with Gary Shaw to promote his fights in the US
Holyfield a world belt in his 12th pro fight, Leon Spinks in his 8th pro fight. Gamboa is 9-0 (8) in his first 11 months as a pro, with none of his opponents having even close to a losing record. Gamboa looks talented enough, that if he keeps up at this rate, he'll have a belt by the end of this year.
De La Hoya won a world title in his 15th month as a pro, the fastest I've seen. Gamboa would have to hurry to beat that.
