Bernard Hopkins. The best way to proove that is to see what happens in their upcoming fight. If Hopkins wins or losses by a close decision that tells you everything you need to know.
if that was the case, then de la hoya loss to floyd told us everything we need to know on who would win prime for prime.
Please Please Please tell me how the hell the fight in April will tell us who would win prime for prime.
Because they both have dropped off a lot in every sense of their skills. They've both gotten slower and this fight will still show how they would fight each other because they still have all the characteristics of their fight game in them. It's just a bit slower and less sharp than it would have been five years ago.
It is still a definite indicator of how a fight would've gone between them though.
I really don't know, the fight in april will tell us who would win prime for prime.

My thoughts exactly! We have no idea how either of them will react to each others style. They are both spoilers and both have great boxing skills and while Hopkins' are a bit more polished and we all know how good and smart he is, Calzaghes are underestimated and his defensive tricks and awkward angles and volume punching would be a struggle for anyone at any stage.
But, until I see how they match up against each other I don't think anyone can start talking about who wins in their relative primes. We might find out that Hopkins is still in more of his prime and Calzaghe has lost it! Although I doubt it, but most people are still underestimating Hopkins for this fight. He still has some serious fight left in him and contrary to what everyone here thinks Calzaghes 1000 punches a fight is not going to get it done. Hopkins is too smart to let someone how throws a million punches beat him just because of that. Anyway, Calzaghe has a whole lot more to offer than just a lot of punches.
Valid post...
Two spoilers, one more active, the other crafty.
A lot of people are saying that the volume of punches that Calzaghe puts out will beat Hopkins - Hopkins is not Lacey. Hopkins will not allow Calzaghe to open up on him. Hopkins rough house tactics can not be compared to Bika, Hopkins as the ability to take Joe to places he hasn't and probably doesn't want to go.
If these two met in their respected primes it would of been a classic fight.
Also nobody as touched on the fighter joe will be after he's fought hopkins win or lose... as we all know nobody fights the same after facing hopkins.
A prime (younger) Calzaghe would likely give any Hopkins his only KO loss
Now that really is hilarious! Hopkins has never been close to being stopped and he has faced much harder punchers than Calzaghe. This fight would only end one way and that is on a points decision for one of them.
Do you actually believe that a fighter that does not turn over on his punches(slapping) could stop one of the toughest fighters in middleweight history? Hopkins has a granite chin and in my opinion, the fighter that has the best chance to stop him was Gerald Mcclenn.
Agreed. Even then I doubt McClellan would be able to stop him but he has a much larger chance than Calzaghe or anyone else from around his generation I can think of. What I'm still baffled about though is people are talking as if Calzaghe has whipped him already! They haven't even fought yet people!!! :nonono:
Until they do, no one will know what a fight with them will go like. Calzaghe might be a perfect style for Hopkins and vice versa. Hopkins might be able to take out Calzaghes punch output with his dirty, scrambling awkward tactics and turn into a scrappy, messy slow fight or Calzaghe might be able to tag Hopkins with his lefty jab and fight with angles and speed, in and out, box and brawl.
We have no idea so why don't we wait for this fight or predict what might happen now instead of talking as if it's a foregone conclusion already. I think many, many people are going to get a big surprise with this fight.

I think Calzaghe beats any version of Hopkins, convince me otherwise please?
What do you think?
cant say Im a fan of either but calzaghe would have probably beat him on points at any time in hopkins career. he's just too quick and active for any version of hopkins

Calzaghe's style always would have given Hopkins problems but the Hopkins of 1997-2000 was much more active and had good pop on his punches, tough on to call and wouldn't be surprised if they split fights, I think Hopkins wins the first.
He hasnt even beaten this version of Hopkins, so why dont we slow down a second.
We have never seen anyone ever beat Joe yet.
Not even a debatable decision.
He is beatable, but ive never been that impressed with Hopkins. His best wins are victories over fighters moving up in weight and not being able to handle it.
A prime Hopkins to me would be around the time the middleweight tourney promoted by DK...that B-Hop would edge Joe to a SD in primes..it'd be a real close fight I know that...
Calzaghe must be so glad he took the Bika fight now. Hopkins can show him nothing he hasn't already seen.
Please, Hopkins is a lot better than any version of Bika. Bika has never even been a champion and is no where near Hopkins when it comes ring smarts, generalship, pure boxing ability, and rough house tactics. Bika is an unorthadox banger that is a decent fighter. Hopkins is a great fighter that is one of the greatest middleweights of all time. HUGE difference.
He cut him with a headbutt. That's not how i saw it though, i saw Bika trying to rough Calzaghe up but Calzaghe beating him at his own game. I didn't score any rounds for Bika as i recall.
Hopkins is kown for using his head as well. Thats exactly how Winky Wright had that huge gash over his eye and Taylor had that cut on the top of his forehead. I see Hopkins roughing Calzaghe up worse than Bika did because Hopkins actually sticks to his game. There were times that Bika did nothing but stare at Calzaghe. On April 19, Calzaghe is definatly in for a long night.
Bika defenatly won some rounds. He did a lot better than Jeff Lacy and Kessler did in my opinion.
It's been a while since I watched Bika-Calzaghe, but I think I had Bika winning 4 rounds. Maybe not that many, but it wasn't a shutout.
Calzaghe did struggle with Bika's rough tactics and Bika gave him a tough fight. Another reason why I'm picking Bernard over Calzaghe for their upcoming fight.
