I decided to make a new poll on this subject because the other one lacked some hard hitting 160 lbs fighters like Jackson, McClellan, Ketchel...
Julian Jackson 55 wins, 49 KO's.
Gerald McClellan 32 wins, 29 KO's.
Stanley Ketchel 54 wins, 49 KO's
Sugar Ray Robinson 108 KO's
Nigel Benn 42 wins, 35 KO's
Thomas Hearns 61 wins, 48 KO's
Marvin Hagler 62 wins, 52 KO's
Bennie Briscoe 66 wins, 53 KO's

I had to leave out a few capable punchers such as Pavlik, Roldan, Tony Zale, Eugene Hart and Monzon.
I also left Bob Fitzsimmons out because his era was too different from today's.
I put Robinson there because of his KO's over Fullmer (no one else ever KO'd him), 'Bobo' Olsen (who was a MW champion & LHW contender), Rocky Graziano (KO'd with one punch and Graziano was tough) and MW champion Randy Turpin.
Everyone who fought Robinson said he could punch very hard when he wanted to. That is why he often came back to KO his opponents after he had been hurt & down.
Hagler is there because of his KO record (over 50 KO's). Not many went the distance with Hagler when he was a champion, only Leonard and Duran.
Leonard and Hearns both said that Hagler's left hand didn't have much power at all but he punched very hard with his right.
Hagler was never known as a one punch KO artist but he does belong in the list as one of hardest punchers at 160 lbs.
Those are good points. I forgot that Hagler had that many KO's.

That's why my personal pick has always been McClellan.
You could be right, but sometimes you gotta forget about numbers and believe your own eyes. I would'nt care if McClellan only had 4 KOs, when I saw that guy hit someone, I knew he was the hardest puncher.
I got the same impression about Jackson. When these dudes landed punches, I just cringed.
If I were voting only based on what I had actually seen, it would have been close between those two. Robinson and Hagler fit better in a "best middleweight" rather than a hardest punching middleweight poll.
Anyone who votes for anyone other than Jackson or McClellan is insane.
That Jackson knockout of Herol Graham in Manchine's vid was unbelieveable! He'd not landed a shot on him up to then.........BOOM....KTFO
Based on footage, McClellan had both 1 punch KO's and vicious combinations that put his opponents out. I'm not sure if Jackson's power was just as great at 160, but I think his KO's were more the effects of accurate punches. Did he have raw power in every punch he threw in a slug fest? Well, IMO he wasn't as all around as Gman. Benn also comes close, but what he lacks in 1 punch KO's, he makes up for it with raw power.
So, based on the general subject of punching power, i'd have to look at it overall and choose Gerald McClellan.
Ketchel could be it IMO, The Ring Magazine ranks him one of the greatest punchers of all time.
Ketchel, 160-170 lbs, KO'd Philadelphia Jack O'Brien who was a great LHW&HW contender, dropped the 205 lb heavyweight champion Jack Johnson and had an unbelievable KO record for era, or any era really (most fights at the time went the distance/were declared no decisions).
Lack of footage is why most won't vote for him. I've only seen him drop Jack Johnson... But his achievements as a puncher are the greatest of all these fighters.
Robinson is obviously the greatest fighter but many went the distance with him and I doubt he could knock his era's heavyweights down with his punch.
He was a destroyer at welterweight though and kept his punch at middleweight, KO'd the 'unstoppable' Gene Fullmer.
Anyone who votes for anyone other than Jackson or McClellan is insane.
Then count me among the insane. Both of those fighters were tremendous punchers. However, more than half of Jackson's KO's were at junior middleweight. McClellan had 29 KO's in his entire career. Before you remind me about GM's tragic demise, remember that Ketchell had 49 KO's in 52 wins, and his last fight was at age 24. Had he fought until he was 30 he likely would have had at least 100 KO's.
Probably Jackson, but it makes u think, against the G-man he would land his hardest shots and it wouldent hurt him, when McClellan landed ANY of his shots flush on Jackson,he would almost have him out,not to mention he brutaly knocked him out twice, hmm its close, but Jackson was a murderer when he knocked someone out, some of the most brutal KOs ive seen (Norris)
When McClellan knocked guys out, they used to be out on there feet,he used to turn before they dropped, its between McClellan and Jackson, but im gna pick Jackson,i know the G-Man KO'd him twice, but i think that had more to do with Jacksons chin then McClellan being the harder hitter
McClellan turned people into complete stiffs with 1 punch.
And I think he might be the hardest puncher, I've ever personally seen.

Much better poll. I was going to pick Jackson, but I remembered that most of his KO's were at 154. Ketchell's KO record is unbelievable for that time period.
