Steward is a great trainer no doubt but as a mouthpiece for his fighters he's too partial. I remember him saying these very same things about Holyfield after he trained Holyfield in the rematch win over Bowe. Holyfield was maybe an all time good at heavyweight, not an all time great.
Would Wlad be competitive in any era? Possibly but his poor stamina and weak chin would make me think twice about picking him against anyone in a 15 round fight or even against a fighter with 15 round stamina who was a contender.
I'll go out on a limb and suggest Wlad getting Kayo'd by Marciano / Frazier / Tyson. Wlad near his best got touched numerous times by the clumsy, awkward Sam Peter. If Peter could reach Wlad with his unrefined technique it stands to reason that any of those aforementioned would lay some serious hands on him.
lol against Puritty what?
He was schooling him round after round, and being the inexperienced fighter.........gassed and literally collapsed from exhaustion.
In fact Puritty (Even though he hits like a fork lift) wasn't responsible for the corner jumping in and throwing the towel.
It was Wlad's inability to even hold his hands up he was so tired. Rookie mistake, and he paces himself much better now after the first Brewster fight.

Well against Ross Purity, Wlad was 21 with only 2 years as a pro, so you can probably scratch that off. And it's pretty obvious that Wlad is better today, with Steward as his trainer, than he was against Sanders and Brewster. Steward is not saying that Wlad is the best heavyweight ever, he's just saying he would be one of the top heavyweights in any era, and I believe he's right, at least one of the top 5 or 6 HWs in any era.
I can dig this post. Agree
yeah but not of the any ERA part
He would pose a major threat to any Heavyweight in the history of the sport.
It's not rocket science. When have you seen a guy that size with that level of ability? lol besides the ATG Lennox Lewis.
Wlad has much, much faster hands than Lewis though.

Nothing wrong with liking the more talented one. Vitali is hated only because of his bitching about the loss against Lewis, Where is the sportsmanship? He is only known because of his loss to Lewis, Wladimir is a much better fighter.
lewis broke his promise and robbed us all for a great fight, i think lewis was the bitch.
anyway i see the point in wlad being the best proven fighter
I don't take much of what Steward says about his own fighters seriously....but I do think that Wlad would be a contender (or champ) in any era and give some of the ATGs problems with his size and skill.
just out curiosity why do have so different feelings about the klitschko brothers?
seems like you like wlad and hate vit
A very real possibility.
Fantasy match-ups are impossible to predict.
The only thing we have to go on is the level of competition.
If Ross Purity, Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster were able to beat Wlad, it's not really difficult to imagine that Ali, Foreman, Frazier etc could do the same.
I highly doubt that the oldtimers would outpoint Wlad though...

For steward to say that is fucking ridiculous but then again this is coming from the same bloke that said Naseem Hamed could go down as the greatest featherweight of all time
Its just too early to talk about Wlads place right now...
He had some bad losses...Sanders fight was straight up, legit loss. He came in under estimating his opponent and got KTFOd by shots that anyone else would not even get up from.
Purity young Wlad punches himself out.
Brewster same thing...
Since the Brew loss I dont really count the first 2 fights.
Samuel Peter was a very tough, and I think the most difficult fight he could have taken, massive guy with a a massive punch...He did what he had to do to win, still 100% though.
Chris Byrd was old...I just didnt see Wlad loosing.
Calvin Brock was a solid fight against an undefeated contender. Ray Austin....Ray Austin.
Lamon Brewster solid domination....
To me Wlad is only now coming into his prime.
If he wins the fight tonight it it starts a new chapter.

Sam Peter shouldn't be compared to Tyson.
I cheer for the person who has the style I like. Asshole or not, doesn't make a difference.
Kiss-ups and asslickers with no personality I hate. If they're afraid to speak their mind, I won't like them. (Talking about fighters here)
Joe Frazier would have a good time against Wlad.
Tyson too, as Wlad doesn't have the uppercut needed to stop them guys coming in.
All others would probably have struggled for awhile before Wlad would gas out.
The others would all be flat on the canvas. The closed-era (pre fall of Soviet Union) champions did not even face worldwide competition. There were National champs, but no real world champs until recently
i would say too bad that there wasn't a tyson around nowadays to create a superfight with wladimir.
we do have a samuel peter who is powerful, stocky, and fights dirty, however. i guess the problem is that he is nigerian and not american.
i still dislike that some people would rather cheer for an asshole american boxer rather than a nice goreign boxer.

Im feeling an upset for some reason, i know all logic points to Wlad winning, but i think a slick boxer who can punch like Sultan might cause some problems, maybe just enough problems to get a win.
I agree that Ibragimov is an underrated fighter. In fact, I think next to Klitschko he may be the best in the division, which is why I give Klitschko a lot of respect for fighting him.
But having said that I just don't think Ibragimov will be able to bob in and out enough to get enough blows in without getting hurt. Plus, Klitschko's jab has laser accuracy right now and he has proved that alone can win him fights.
I would not be shocked to see it go the distance but even that would be a good accomplishment for Ibragimov in my opinion. In any case, I think this has the potential to be a great fight.
steward is in his own world when he says wladimor is the best heavy weights of all time, tyson would put him on his ass in 30 seconds and ali would make him loook like a fucking idiot
