Paul Williams against Quintana weighed in at 146 3/4 and on fight night weighed 164. Could someone explain to me how it is possible to do this. I know fighters dehydrate, but it is impossible to dehydrate 17 pounds of fluid IMO?
I don't think its just dehydration and not eating on the day of the weigh-in thats the only thing he did. I want to know if there are other ways of cutting weight that I don't know of.
If Williams and Quintana ever fought again, the rematch would be reminiscent of Lewis v Rahman II. Williams will knock him out. Williams found out who he was fighting in a month, and knowing that it was Quintana, didnt take him seriously or train. Thats apparent in the his weight gain from 146 to 164 overnight. Whenever that happens, it means that a fighter had a difficult time losing the weight becuz they didnt train properly. Everyones saying that Quintana is a top 3 WW, Williams got exposed, and its all bullshit. Lets not overhype the situation. Williams did not take the fight seriously, overlooked his opponent, and paid dearly for it. As a result he lost. Its not the first time this has happened in boxing. Any true student of the sport will know this. But to completely ostracize a fighter cuz he lost to an underdog is just foolish. I doubt Quintana will take the rematch. He'll probably go for the most lucrative bout possible while he has the championship title as his bargaining chip. BUT if he does fight Williams again, you will definately see the end of the Quintana bandwagon. I just came this forum, and already Ive seen the issues that past members who came and left this forum have encountered. Its like most of you are 13 year old white boys whos first boxing match was viewed in 2004. Quintana wins and now hes a God. But let Quintana fight Carlos Baldomir and lose and youll all start saying Baldomir can beat Mayweather in a rematch, hes the best, blah blah blah. Lets not get overzealous: Quintana fought a great fight and won. That win was facillitated by Williams lack of focus and training. The only thing Williams consistently said after the fight was that he could never get into the fight. Well, its hard to get into a fight on fight night when you werent in it before. Rematch though, and you'll see Williams right back at the level he was at prior to the loss. Quintana is no more the truth than Rahman, Griffin, Raheem or Corrie Sanders were. This is just my 2 cents. I know boxing.
I'm afraid you don't know boxing. It is true that quintana isn't that much of a skilled fighter cuz he has 0 defense but that just makes Williams that much worse. Williams has no defense and you don't need to prepare 3 months for that. williams has sluggish defense and is winning ONLY because of his height advantage and punching without getting hit until now. Williams has nothing else other than his height and reach advantage over other fighters. and I've never been a real fan of his. I knew that mayweather would easily beat williams and now everyone could see how dominant mayweather really is. Williams would get destroyed in the super middleweight and light heavyweight division where he really belongs.
Thats a toughy, I know alot of ppl are going to say that making weight is part of the game and such, but the main reason we have weight divisions is so the fighters are as evenly matched as possible, losing alot of water weight doesn't effect the body as much as you would think especially if its for a short period of time, and these fighters are giving themselves a big advantage putting on in some cases over a stone (2 weight classes)
exactly and plus for natural weights fighters is almost impossible to KO a guy that is fighting 2 divisions down his own weight is a very tough decision.
he aint got shit on joan guzman who went from 130 to 148 the night he fought soto....
He aint got shit???
Thats only 1lb difference.
Obviously he has got shit.
i have a question for u guys
should the commission make boxers to move up in weight because of the constantly overweight in fight night???

Our mass is made up of almost 70% of water.
So I don't know how you think it's "impossible" to dehydrate and hydrate 17 pounds.
yeah that's not completely unheard of. I think Guzman added around 15 pounds his last fight, Edison Miranda I think weighed in around 190 (at a supermiddle weight fight!), and there have been plenty of other examples.
Its probably more typical to gain around 5-10 pounds, but almost all fighters will add weight within that period.
It definitely might reflect some serious questions about Williams though and how difficult it is for him to make 147. It might be time to consider a higher weight class because I just don't think it's healthy and probably effects his power/stamina.
the cuts over the eyes are more of an indication of how extremely dehydrated he was.
It's pretty clear that Williams is having problems making weight.
He said a while back he was walking around at 155.
That can't be the case now because he is enterng the ring weighing in close to what a Super Middleweight weighs.
easy ...his height and body size allow him to absorb up to that much after dehydrating himself and starving himself to death wich contributed to his loss
It's not so much that he put the weight on, it's that he temporarily lost the weight for the weigh in.
He walks around at 166, then dehydrates, cuts food intake and uses laxitives before the weigh in. By eating and rehydrating his body restores itself to its natural weight (or close to) for the fight.
Cutting weight is an art in itself.

I'm actually having my doubts about that... considering you think a non-skilled volume puncher with no power is going to knock out a very accurate counterpuncher in a rematch.
Williams = no skills, no accuracy and no defense.
Quintana = counterpuncher with good accuracy and good defense.
Quintana avoids the shots that lack technique (which is probably 90% of them) and sends back good counters all night... it would look just like... umm, uhh... oh yeah, the first time they fought, 2 nights ago.

The Banks fight?
WTF?!? He just fucking moved up from 160!
How in the hell is he so huge at 168 already?!?
Does anyone have a link to something telling his weight that night, because that would seriously be something to behold.
yes it's true, fight night he was 192
I find it funny people bring up the weight now as why Williams lost when he was 162 against Margarito coming up from 145 3/4.
For the record I think Clottey vs Corrales was at a catchweight of 149 and Clottey came in at 151 on the first try.
And he said he only weighed that much because he weighed himself with all of his clothes on.

Unfortunatly, I don't have a link. I think Pantera2000 is the one who said it. That is crazy if true though.
