In a thread (from July) that I bumped last night, it was argued over whether Williams would be a tougher opponent for Floyd than Hatton. I insisted Hatton was a tougher match, but everyone read is as if I were claiming Hatton could beat Williams. :nonono: :nonono:
There are a million examples of why the triangle theory doesn't work in boxing but people still try to use it.
Frazier beats Ali, Foreman destroys Frazier - making Foreman a huge favorite against Ali (we all know how that went.)
Jerry Quarry TKO 1 Earnie Shavers, Earnie Shavers KO 1 Jimmy Ellis, but Jimmy Ellis M15 Jerry Quarry.
etc
etc
etc.
Just because Quintana beat Williams who beat Margarito doesn't mean that neither Williams or Margarito would stand a chance against Cotto (who beat Quintana.)
He's a tall skinny guy, who fights small. He really does not take advantage of his height or reach.
I will still pick him over many of the top welterweight, I can't call the man overrated after one bad night, considering the fight should've been a draw and he still should have his belt.
Dont confuse me saying he is Overrated with me underrating him..
he simply had done NOTHING to earn the Lofty status that had been placed on him.. Goony..people were saying he would beat Floyd Mayweather..
How fucking insane is THAT???
LOL..... are you kidding me???? 6'2'' VS 5'6''... I dont recall giving an opinion.. But yeah I would pick Williams over Hatton.. Like I said Willaims is a bully who beats up on guys ALOT smaller than him..

I remember our bet, it was about the fight being better then the Wlad/Brewster fight, which it was.
Didn't you pick Williams over Hatton??

Williams was not exposed, Quinatana was always good. The fight should have been a draw.
Dr. Skelter, you also overrated Williams, so shut up!
Since when?????? I always said he was Bully who beat Up light weights... Christ I even Picked Margarito to beat him .. remember???? or did you forget our little bet??
Quintana made him look average. Which makes we wonder how a fighter like Paul beat Margarito, and confirms that Margarito is overrated as well.
Give the man a Prize... he is starting to understand..
A little advice to a decent poster...
The bigger the HYPE... the less you should believe it...
Don't you remember his classic thread, you guys wouldn't beat Paulie Malignaggi in a street fight?
No I don't recall that one.
I never thought about how I'd fare with Paulie in a streetfight. I suppose he could bounce a few harmless punches off me before I get my hands up :ugh:
im happy this happen ot him, the only reason he got notice was becuz he beat magrito dats it other tan dat he didnt fight no one else big, so y was he callin out all these people. did u also see at time he was tired and juss thowin sloppy
I made at least 500 posts about how shit Williams is, just so I could look good right now
Seriously though it was easy. Williams makes unnecessary shoulder movements all in the same rhythm, hitches before he punches and so is easy for an experienced boxer to read. You people who didn't see this at least a year ago, well maybe you're not looking at the right things
Me too.
I even made a thread about it.
You were right, Welter - we were overrating Williams.
I remember I posted anyone would need to be a fool to bet on Quintana. Parody offered me 80,000 points to my 20,000 points if I bet on Quintana, and I turned it down. I feel like the fool now...
I was sooooooo close to taking that bet, but then I looked at Quintana's resume again and decided against it. Oh well.

I had planned to bet all the points I was supposed to win on the Tito fight on Quintana. I overestimated Tito.
When I saw Quintana for the first time take out Julio with ease I knew he was a good fighter. The guy is slick as hell, has great movement and has a feel for the ring that you can see is pure talent. When Cotto destroyed him so easily I was completely shocked, but Quintana poses problems for any fighter in the WW division.
Before this fight, although I heard of him, I never saw Paul Williams until his lanky physique entered the ring. The scenario induced flashbacks of Tommy Hearns vs. Pipino Cuevas. And given Max Kellerman's pre-fight hype of Williams - dubbing him "The Inconvenient Truth" - started to make a believer out of me. Then as the fight began to unfold, I realized that the only inconvenient truth with regard to Williams, was to Williams himself. In retrospect, I was glad to see Quintana repeatedly punch that silly pre-fight grin off Williams' face with his left hand...
Harold Lederman, who wore his bias for Williams on his sleeve, scored the fight 115-113 in his behalf. Quintana - by all objective observers - clearly one the 11th. round, but Lederman shamelessly awarded it to Williams.
great post.
