Maybe so but I highly doubt that you have the inside track on Tommy Morrison. If he failed a test recently it would have probably been all over the boxing websites by now. Whatever the truth is you shouldn't make that claim based on heresay...
Where is the link showing that he tested positive last year? He is fighting on the payperview this weekend so get your story straight before you post that. You guys forget that he only had 3 losses on his record when he had to quit. He lost to Mercer, Lewis and some guy named Michael Bentt. His only problem was that he was never in shape for his fights and that is what held him back. If anything, he was a devastating puncher and many fighters say that he was easily the hardest puncher that they have ever faced...
I don't need to show you a link. Not every bit a news goes public. Maybe you would wonder why his results were delayed for his fight in Texas, or after that he only fought on an Indian reservation in an unsanctioned MMA fight, or in Mexico where both places don't require results. Some things are known in circles and aren't discussed publicly, You can claim whatever you want; the man has always had HIV.
Easily would have won a rematch, he had some setbacks but I always remember people being 50 times more critical when it came to Morrison compared to a boxer of lesser skills.
Morrison was very chinny aswell though from what ive seen i think that is probably why he was more of a contender than the real deal ,Lewis had him over a few times with shots that were exactly devestating
it is a bit frustrating when u watch the Lewis fight cause u know he has the power to hurt Lewis but he is to fearfull of letting his hands go cause he knows Lewis can punch aswell ,he ends up staying on the outside trying to Box his way in when in reallity he should have been taking a chance & abandoning his Boxing & trying to nail Lewis with left hooks & right hands even at the risk of being KO'd himself that is th only chance he had in that fight ,as it was he was content to stay at range where Lewis's power was :smashfrea
How Good was Tommy Morrison ?was he just a journeyman Heavywight or was he talented
I think he was verry good and had all the tools, verry exciting fighter. But this HIV storrie if true or not kicked him out of the picture. I think its a shame, also the storrie with Ike Ibeabuchi. These 2 man where suposed to be verry good exciting heavyweights but their careers ended verry early in an unusual way.
that bentt fight looked like a fluke though. morrsion had bentt seriously hurt with grazing shots and happened to walk into a right hand when he went crazy trying to finish him off. he'd have knocked bentt out in a rematch easily in my opinion

great power and handspeed but horrible stamina and a suspect chin. kind of like a briggs or corrie sanders type guy. dangerous as hell early,,,but fades badly after 3 rounds
kind of reminded me of jerry cooney....
Yeah ok, thats right his eye was pretty shut an Lane stopped it, and yeah he was having a difficult time trying to land and get in there with some power. Lennox Lewis is friggin huge with a great defensive jab.
Somebody said he quit against Lewis? Did he? I dont remember Morrison quitting any bout he had some heart, could be wrong who the hell knows. I think if he switched games for the Mercer / Lewis bout he would had won both and the Bentt fight Bentt was hurt badly with two left hooks and afterward caught lightning in a bottle. Shitty trainer game palns and his extreme partying hampered him the most plus his early leave from boxing didnt help but I think he had one of the sickest quickest shortest most powerful compact left hook in boxing, his uppercut was lethal too. Think hes a bit of a nut now though and really can't condone his fighting without all them tests.
i though Mill Lane stopped the fight ,im sure he did there were'nt many complaints from Morrison though probably because his eye was shut & he could'nt find away to get inside Lewis reach

He was a good fighter, with really good power, but when he stepped up in competition against world class fighters he lost. (Lennox Lewis, Michael Bennett) Not a journeymen, but a contender.
Lmao, Herbie Hide Flattened Bentt for the very same WBO Title that Bentt took off Morrison ,they were actually fighting at the Press Conference prior to the fight

** Morrison was pretty talented, much more than given credit for. His record is equal to or better than that of Quarry and Shavers of the touted Ali era.
Thing is that he was a glamour boy who seldom committed to training, used steroids, and used to wear eye make up when he went out cattin' around at night like movie stars which was most nights. Being that his great uncle, The Duke, John Wayne, was still huge in American memory, the handsome, cocky lad had his pick of ladies, parties and no end of backslappers.
He never realized his full potential. Just think how far Tyson fell after he stopped training and Tyson had even more natural talent.
To read the history of his retirement is like looking under rocks at Don King headquarters. He claims he was never HIV positive, was never an AIDs patient, and has years of HIV negative tests, but nothing verified.
Now he fights in Mexico on a big card against a novice tonight. I'm guessing a few bouts like that, if sucessful, then Chagaev, The White Tyson who apparently can't bust a grape without a jackhammer, will need someone that he might actually have a chance to knockout. In Russia of course or maybe even Germany. Nobody in the states to sanction Morrison at this point.
Tommy Morrison would be a contender at any time in the division, but he was perhaps a bit overrated because of all the publicity. He was a solid B+ heavyweight at his best.
He would probably NOT win a title if he was in his prime right now, but he may have a few years ago when the heavyweight division was at its weakest (over Byrd, Ruiz, or Brewster).
Wladimir vs. prime Morrison would be very similar to Lewis vs. prime Morrison. I doubt whether he'd beat Chagaev, Valuev or Ibragimov either.
Good analysis. Morrison was always vlunerable, but his left hook would always give him a shot against almost anyone. I agree with the Lewis/Wladimir fight comparison. He'd be torn apart.
Tommy Morrison gets a mention. He beat a lot of the same guys Tyson got credit for coming up like Pinklon Thomas, James Tillis, Carl "the truth" Williams and Donovan "Razor" Ruddock. His biggest win was beating George Foreman BEFORE he won the Titles again.
I think his best was yet to come but he retired way too soon. Most boxers admit thier prime is in thier 28-32 years. I think he quit when he was 26.
