Is Calzaghe the best that Bernard has ever fought? Hmmmm, I'm going to have to reply with "No!" He may have the best record, padded record that is, that Bernard has ever fought, but that's about it.
Roy Jones is without a doubt the best fighter Hopkins has ever fought. If you didn't see the fight check it out on youtube it answers the question to this thread, completely.
Roy certainly wasn't prime when Hopkins faced him, but with his extensive amatuer background and Olympic experience, he wasn't green either. Prime Joe vs that Roy would be a hell of a fight, but this isn't prime Joe, so I'd say no. Trinidad and especially DLH were just too small.
It was probably Roy Jones or Trini who at eh time was undefeated and Hop was an underdog in the bout. Cal is up there with the best of them, either him, Jones or Trinidad get's the nod.
Trinidad was the best on paper at the time they fought (top p4p, unbeaten, supposed to destroy Hopkins).
Roy Jones was the best for what he became (he wasn't accomplished at the time though).
Calzaghe might be the most skilled fighter Hopkins has ever fought, we will see. Not saying Calzaghe is better than prime Jones but the Roy Jones a young Hopkins fought wasn't a prime Roy Jones.
Looking at it i wonder about this, personally i feel De La Hoya was but lets get some opinions on this.i am not sure you can compare odlh since he is not really a force at 60! i would have to say roy was better than joe, but than joe next being the second best bhop faced! followed by trinidad/delahoya!
