Tarver does appear to be a legend in his own mind, or was he paying Joe a compliment and I am being too harsh??
He can't let the Bernard thing go either 'he still couldn't put me down on my worst day'
Hopkins will foul his ass off the whole fight you can be sure of that. Look what he did to Winky.
The rough stuff won't be any worse than Bika handed out, its the counter punching he needs to be aware of and I think with his speed and footwork, he will be up to the task. You have to be stupid to underestimate Hopkins and Joe ain't that stupid. Tarver on the other hand, did underestimate Hopkins.....
Personally i couldnt give a fuck, as long as people dont compare fucking Kessler to the unbeaten Version of Roy Jones. :lol1:
Sorry how old is Hopkins? and yet if calzaghe wins that fight, the dickriders will prolly compare him to ray robinson.
You cant have it both ways.
Didn't the same old Hopkins just give a whippin' to Tarver and Wright? Sure, he ain't what he used to be in terms of output but that doesn't mean a lot when it comes to Hopkins because his...err...technical skills lol are second to none. Calzaghe deserves big props if he can beat Hopkins (I personally think thats still a big 'if'. Hopkins gives anyone trouble at any stage of his career).
While Calzaghe has not beaten any huge American 'name' fighters he actually does have a pretty decent resume. While it is not the caliber of Jones, Hopkins, or someone else like that I would still think it is better than Tarvers. He has some decent wins over Harding, Griffin, Jones, old Reggie Johnson, old Glen Johnson but he also was beaten by nearly every single one of those guys as well!
The only 'names' that make it better than Calzaghes are Jones and Hopkins. He lost (and won) to both of them. Calzaghe is undefeated and with the amount of defenses (albeit quite a number were shit opponents) that in itself makes it a lot better than Tarvers.
If people would actually bother to have a proper look at Calzaghe and the good fighters he has faced you'll find it isn't so bad as most would have you believe.
I would say the best fighters he has faced are on par with Tarvers quite easily, if not much better, apart from those two big names. Eubank 45-2 (very, very good fighter. Beat some big names. WBC, WBO middle and WBO super title holder)
Reid 26-1 (also very good when he fought Calzaghe. WBC title holder, as well as WBF, IBO and got horribly screwed in the infamous Ottke decision which would have give him IBF and WBA titles.)
Ritchie Woodhall 26-2...WBC holder
Mario Veit 1st fight 30-0, 2nd fight 45-1...WBC, WBO holder
Charles Brewer 37-8 IBF holder
Byron Mitchell 25-2 WBA holder
Jeff Lacy 21-0 IBF holder
Kessler 39-0 WBA< WBC holder
These are all good fighters and are all as good as any names on Tarvers apart from Jones and Hopkins. This doesn't include some other decent fighters and prospects either. But most of those guys all beat champions and good names like those you mentioned in Tarvers resume ie. Johnson, Benn, Thornton, Watson, Beyer, Mundine, etc etc.
Don't think I'm saying his is an exceptional resume but apart from two names, both of whom he lost to and one of which he beat 'cause he was done, Calzaghe's is easily as good, if not a fair bit better.
Christ, I can't believe I just went to all that trouble for Calzaghe :ugh: I still think Hopkins might beat him...might....
Tarver in his prime, i go with him over calzaghe, Tarver now, too slugish not enough workrate. Hes not being serious, he just knows how to promote a fight thats all.
really? interesting, but won't matter, it will never happen...
If Calzaghe got that fight at that time we would all be calling Calzaghe the greatest fighter of all time. Tarver has never been that good, but he did have Jones' number. Either way though, Calzaghe is a better fighter than Tarver could ever have been.
Im not actually saying Tarver is better than Calzaghe, im saying if those two were to fight primes, id go with tarver and call the upset, i think tarver's style would have given him a chance, calzaghe is not as infailible as people think, he's been knocked down by lesser fighters than tarver, the idea that tarver would have had no chance is wrong, stranger things happen in boxing.
One day people are gonna learn, timing and dicipline beats speed, was Mayorga a better fighter than forrest? no, but he knocked him the fuck out and beat him twice.
Yep, but i wont go into how overrated calzaghe is yet again, just think of the tarver that fought roy jones, then ask yourself if calzaghe ever got in the ring with one guy anywhere near that class of fighter.
If Calzaghe got that fight at that time we would all be calling Calzaghe the greatest fighter of all time. Tarver has never been that good, but he did have Jones' number. Either way though, Calzaghe is a better fighter than Tarver could ever have been.
i bet all my points on calz vs hopkins plz. thanks
No thanks, i have said all along Calzaghe should have too much output for this version of hopkins.
Unless you wanna offer crazy odds, say, 10:1 odds in my favor, ill put up 5k for hopkins winning, just incase, anything can happen in boxing.
Sorry how old was Jones again?
Who he beat for the last 5yrs? dont say Ruiz but i must agree Nady and Jones did beat him.
Time will tell how good Kessler is and just because he didnt beat any Americans dont mean his resume is not ultra solid.
Personally i couldnt give a fuck, as long as people dont compare fucking Kessler to the unbeaten Version of Roy Jones. :lol1:

You cant have it both ways.
Fuck off with that shit, who the fuck did Kessler beat to make you think he was on the same level as roy jones?
Libero Andrade?
:lol1:
i bet all my points on calz vs hopkins plz. thanks
Earth to this dude.
Are you for real?
A shot 37yo Roy Jones and a 41yo Hopkins are on the level of Eubank or a 28yo Kessler. Easy.
And remember Lacy was a bum after Joe ate him up.
Fuck off with that shit, who the fuck did Kessler beat to make you think he was on the same level as roy jones?
Libero Andrade?
:lol1:
Prime Tarver and todays Tarver couldent beat Calzaghe,i dont think Hopkins is gna beat him,so how could Tarver? Man,theres been so much Tarver news lately my brains hurting,he talks too much shit
So true, the guy is just full of crap
I think people disagree with me thinking Prime tarver could beat calzaghe, but thats fine.
But what youve gotta remember is that while calzaghe is a world class fighter, he hasnt been in the ring with the calibre of fighters tarver has, not at until he gets in the ring with Hopkins, before the Hopkins-Tarver fight people were quick to give B-Hop no chance, then tarver lost and people say he was shit all along.
Calzaghe is not ominpotent, infact he's been knocked down by lesser fighters than tarver, i dont really wanna go into the fact calzaghe has fought about 3/4 world class fighter in 10 years, but a rangy southpaw with good power and general boxing skills would cause him real issues and thats what Tarver can be.
Lets see what happens against old man Hopkins, the guy is quality, but hasnt fought the highest calibre opponents in his era, when he gets with better opposition lets see what happens.
Calzaghe and Kessler were pretty much well matched but Calzaghe only beat him because of his amazing workrate, Calzaghe's workrate is what got him till here.
i disagree i think it was his ability to outbox Kessler from range by jabbing and moving, Kessler couldn`t match Calzaghe's jab and looked a bit confused. When Calzaghe stood in front of him it was an altogether different fight.
Kessler won round 12 so his conditioning couldn`t have been that bad.
Tarver in his prime, i go with him over calzaghe, Tarver now, too slugish not enough workrate. Hes not being serious, he just knows how to promote a fight thats all.
That's insane.

This guy's ego knows no limits. Has there ever been a fighter with a 26-4 record so delusional? I hope Woods puts his lights out in April.
prime tarver is never beating prime calzaghe! tarver of now is in for a total outclassing! tarver beating a past it jones is not a measuring stick for comparison at all!
