Thomas Hearns was thin in the legs and he's chinney, Vernon Forrest is very thin in the legs and he's chinney as well. Chad Dawson is also thin in the legs. Could being thin in the legs be a disadvantage?
Well Oscar De La Hoya has skinny legs, especially against Mayweather.
I knew something was weird about his physique, and it was his legs.
Probably because he is tall for a welterweight. (Antonio Margarito for example)
(Generaly boxers only need to work their upper body, their legs are used for cardio workout.)

roy jones,,,wlad klitschko. no question about it. the legs are what hold you up. the more massive the better shock absorber. on the opposite side,,,david tua has tree trunks for legs which helps him absorb big shots on the chin. I think neck size is a big factor as well. guys like mercer and tyson had massive necks and they took great shots in there primes
Center of gravity. Shorter, stockier legs have a better center of gravity, as opposed to chicken legs. Simpy put, a stronger foundation makes for a stonger chin...
However, I will say this, Evander Holyfield is one the buffest dudes in boxing history but his legs, below the knee, look like number 2 pencils but man can that man take a punch! Bowe dam near decapitated him....
What, other than Mayorga I, gave you the impression that Forrest is chinny?
A little bit off-topic, but I'm just curious.
I've only seen him in trouble in one fight.
If having a pencil neck means you can take a much harder punch than most, then I'd bet money that Kaynan could take a clean powershot from George Foreman without flinching.............

Sandy Saddler had a skinny neck and skinny legs, skinny everything actually.
He was only stopped once (in his second fight) in over 160 fights.

Shane Mosley has the skinniest legs ever (except Roger Mayweather).
Mosley sparring with JCC.

they are all tall fighters ,i think that is the biggest Issue it is harder to defend against punches that are coming from underneath & up around your guard especially if your being pushed back ,dont forget the smaller man is always punching up most of the time & the majority of his punches have more possibilty of landing on the point of the chin due to the height of his oponent
Usually skinny legs mean a skinny neck too. That may have more to do with the ability to absorb a blow to the chin.
Agreed. I think it has more to do with skinny necks than skinny legs.

Could be that skinny legs, mean a leaner physique in general i.e. taller boxers for the weight. This would tend to give them reach advantage, but usually mean thinner limbs and neck (proportionatley); a strong neck helps a lot when taking shots, its a shock absorber, so yeah, the theory may hold true, but although some thicker set individuals just seem to be able to take the big shots - some don't (e.g. David Haye, big neck, but comparatively chinny)
