Oscar seems to get a lot of hate on here. I'm wondering why.
Do you like his character for being a good guy and a legend of the boxing game or think he is underhanded, sneaky, self-promoting etc?
Yes.
He is a living legend, and even though people say he should retire he still is able to compete at a high level. What other guy gave floyd so much trouble. I think oscar made a very good performance that night. On the light middleweights, he is able to beat any of the champs in there. On welter, well there is more complicated, but still i think has a chance to beat any of the 4 champions. Small maybe, but more due to his stamina than his skills.
I really hope oscar beats mayweather....difficult but not impossible. If somone is gonna beat floyd, i would really like that it was dlh.
Yes.
Because he's the Consummate superstar, and he'll always (as corny as it is) play the gunslinger role in any division he fights in.
Everyone knows he was/can be just about as good as you can get.

I don't know him personally but I am a fan and always will be. What he does outside the ring like sing gay songs or father kids out of wedlock is his problem. He has disapointed a few times but no one is perfect. He has had fights go against him but he also had fights in his favor . As a fighter he has fought the most current and past champions out of the fighters today. He fought EVERYONE , I mean EVERYONE who is and was relevant. Contrary to popular belief he has won big fights. It also depends on what you believe a big fight is . Is it against a name fighter or is it against contemporaries who are less famous but who have outstanding records. Here are the fights that define his career in my opinion : G. Hernadez Ruelas,Chavez,Quartey,Whitaker,Trinidad(115-113)Mosley2(115-113)Vargas. What he did at WW by beating Quartey,Trinidad and Whitaker is hard for anyone to dismiss. Last thing, Like I said Oscar has let me down against Sturm, Mayweather(No doubt that an active and serious Oscar would have busted him up good) and the last 3 rounds against Trinidad but to say that he has no heart or is not a true Mexican warrior is bullshit. Remember that he made Hernandez quit and made the most revered and the supposed standard of Mexican machismo quit , Julio Cesar Chavez. Oscar never quit , Chavez did.
I just love it when people who aren't pro's say this guy or that guy should retire. It makes me laugh and think about how pathetic people are that hate on other people.
You only have a very short career in boxing and pro sport's in general, who the fuk are we to say that anyone should retire?!? Oscar isn't embarassing himself yet, he has put in very good performances and is still a huge draw. If I was him, I would fight until I wanted to and it's stupid for anyone to be hating on a man that has given so much to the sport.
If I could go back in time and fight again I would, if I go back and play football one last time I would. You only get one time to be young and at the age where you are in your prime. If Oscar wants to fight, then let the man do it and stop hating, it looks real ugly when you hate.
i think chavez was the one talking more shit afterwards. chavez wasn't giving him credit and blamed the cut on him bumping heads with his infant son, not the punches of oscar.
and that's the truth. did u see the punch that opened the cut. it was a weak jab that opened the cut that was already there! Plus chavez was already passed his prime anyway!
Now i'm starting to dislike him a bit, i kinda just want him to retire.. his time is done, now's he's just raking up cash, let the new generation get theirs.. i would say i respect him for who he's fought, and let's be honest, he has made a lot of money for the sport, and has brought much publicity to boxing, but i don't like what he seems to be doing now
Right on man. I think this about sums it up.
Is he still a dangerous fighter? Sure, but his thoughts aren't on fighting anymore, they are about promoting. Fine, nothing wrong with that.
But don't fool the public about it and say your still in it for your legacy.
If you were you'd look to cement it with good quality wins instead of trying to dance with Mayweather again simply because it puts up the most bread.
I think its the other way around. I think most of the ppl who support floyd are not floyd lovers at all and every person who has something against floyd is a floyd hater. you'd have to be a hater to think that he isn't a great skilled fighter and that he doesn't pick big fights cuz he is both. he is one of the greatest skill-wise fighter of all-time. you should be honored just be able to witness his fights live.
and proof that its floyd haters that reject reality and substitute it for their own, i wanna see you substitute this reality of floyds so called hand-picked opponents.
Genaro Hernandez - 38-1-1 when they fought and WBC SFW champ.
Diego Corrales - 33-0 (27 ko's) also Ring #1 Jr Lightweight and #5 P4P when they fought.
Jose Luis Castillo - Ring #1 Lightweight champ and WBC lightweight champ when they fought. and was later ranked as high as 7th on the ring p4p list.
Arturo Gatti - "Too big too strong for floyd. floyd is gonna get rocked by Gatti's powerful punches and there is no way Gatti could possibly get ko'd by mayweather cuz he has faced much more powerful punchers and he can take punishment like nobody else"<---what everybody thought at the time. and Gatti was the ring #2 jr welterweight when they fought.
Zab Judah - was Ring #1 Welterweight Champ(4 months prior to their fight) and IBF WW title holder. Ring #10 on the P4P list 2005.
Baldomir: Rated number #1 WW and Linear Champion when they fought
Oscar De La Hoya - just came off a win on mayorga. mayorga beat vernon forrest twice. Vernon Forrest beat mosley twice. so, needless to say dlh wasn't a past prime fighter and had all his skills intact. was 1999 P4P #1 over #2 Roy Jones Jr. also was 2002 #1 jr mw, 2001 #1 jr mw, 1999 #1 ww, 1998 #1 ww, 1996 #1 jr ww, 1995 #1 LW.
Ricky Hatton - 2005 #4 on the p4p list. 43-0, #8 P4P and #1 jr ww when they fought. ricky hatton was not a blown up jr ww cuz that would make mayweather a blown up super feighterweight. and hatton walks around at 185 between fights so no excuses. This was a fair fight no matter what anyone says. Hatton came off a ko of castillo and 11th round stoppage of Kosta Tszyu. This win is extremely underrated by mayweather haters.
but, but, but, he hasnt fought a "true welterweight"... haha
Floyd lovers mantra: "We reject your reality and substitute our own."

There' s not one fighter i have ever hated more then this ***..He is a ok fighter, the most overated fighter of our era. Should have 6 loses.Never beaten a great fighter (he had 2 u can argue)but he never whooped a good fighter..They say he's a great guy but based on what? He's fake and Mexicans will never consider him a real mexican fighter he's a chicano. He don't have the heart of a mexican fighter watch him against tito.
I don't like him because I feel the guy is two faced from any point you want to see it.
The man says he wants to help the sport of Boxing and its fighters yet he makes the priciest PPV's and tickets for his fighters. On top of that he doesn't deliver the excitement for your buck. That only hurts the sport.
On top of it all because of his pulling power he derails what champs should do and defend against threats to fight him instead, a semi-retired superstar.
The man might have seemed like a help to boxing when women came to watch him unlike any other fighter before but considering the fans he created only stay for him and don't transcend to the other fighters it doesn't really help squat.
In reality the only 2 things i like about him are that he is a fucking genius businessman and the only fighter to treat his promoter like the employee he is, and his fine ass wife.
I think he has been a great fighter and good for the sport but he needs to ride off into the sunset at this point..
I agree.
I'm still a fan but admittedly his best days are behind him.
I'm still a fan, but I understand why so many fans are tired of him. It's pretty obvious that ODLH has done more than other fighter in his era to broaden the fan base of the sport, so I think he'll be missed quite a bit when he finally does hang them up.
