some sort of standard judging criteria. For a bunch of writers and pundits to jump in a room and pick or vote for who they personally think is the P4P best is idiotic at best. I mean the selection amounts to nothing more than a group of people say some one is the P4P just because they think so.
Does anyone know what the criteria is for judging and picking the P4P best? From what I understand, the process is completely arbitrary and vague with no real basis in a system or process for validation. The mere participation in this is sort of exercise is more of a reflection on the "dimness" of the voters and followers than a validation of the fighters.
I am a Floyd fan but do not have any idea how someone can be voted P4P best when they haven't proven they can beat everyone in their own division.
Until a fighter OWNS their own divison withoiut question, IMO, there is no way anyone can label them P4P. To do so is a complete choke and to pay attention to this makes you a nut hanger with no ability to think for yourself. Another name for this is called "follower".
He ducked Frei and Casa at lightweights.
Ducked Spafa and Kostya at 140.
Ducked Cotto, Margarito, Williams, MOsley at welter.
We dont need to be Einstein to see a coward from a brave warrior.
And please.
What does beating a blown up Hatton which nearly got KOed by COllazo prove?
Not unless you fight the best.
We all have to use common sense to discern he's a coward and a fake.
Just a pint of common sense.
The problem with some pitiful posters here is that they seem to be baffled by a little common sense.
you make some very good points here, however, in my opinion, the result would have the same at ANY weight. hatton is taylor made for the style of floyd.
hatton is the dummy who agreed to fight at welter. we all knew that was a weight too big for him, but again, it didn't matter. floyd tears him up at any weight.
and if floyd doesn't step up and fight a real fight soon I'll be joining the crowd that he is a fraud and a coward. after the bull shit rematch with the cross dresser, if he doesn't step up and fight cotto, margarito, or pw he'll go down in my book as a coward.
Even Mayweathers status as the best JWW is somewhat dubious because he fought Hatton at WW not JWW. So he fought a JWW at WW and won convincingly.
I like Floyd and think he is one of the best boxers in the last 10 years, but I dont know why he has chosen to fight DLH again. He loves money more than credability I think.
Pound for pound is a criteria of opinion but BASED ON COMMON SENSE.
Complete idiots will argue that it's based on opinion.
COrrect.
But also based of common sense.
P4p means being the best.
If you got a pint of common sense in your brain then you will realize being the best means fighting the best.
It's all common sense.
And I still can't figure out how a pussy Fake Floyd can trick Americans he's a p4p guy much less ATG.
That dudes a pussy and he's got the Americans duped.
since he beat hatton there is no doubt he is the best jr welter on the planet. but that is all he has proved so far. he may be the best ww on the planet too, but he certainly hasn't proven that to anyone.
in order to be the best ww he has to beat cotto and vice versa....
i like floyd too man but be real, making money has nothing to do with p4p because if it did tyson and oscar would be p4p 1 and 2 all time. Floyd is also far from the most exciting, watch him fight and you will see he is more concerned about defense than offense and that is not exciting it is just careful and smart fighting. I think p4p is just the general opinion on who would be the best fighter if all the fighters were the same size.
i like floyd also but if he doesn't step up and fight a ww contender, cotto, pw or mosley this year than fuck 'em, i'm done.
who gives a shit about seeing fm kick odh's ass again in another boring fight because oscar is too scared to fight?
Floyd is number 1 so u tell me. he beats everyone and makes the most money and is the most exciting. thats p4p baby.

Based on reading posts in the past, I dont think fans want any kind of real data or logic to back up the P4P rating system.
I think part of the P4P system should include reviewing your average competition level so you can weed out those who built their records by fighting bums..
you have to be the best in ur division by beating the best and winning the most titles and making the most money. and entertaining helps some peeps too. i cant decide whos #2 to 10 but thats for yall to figure out going by what i said.
Pretty much in every post you say something about "making the most money" What the fuck does that have to do with being P4P #1? Seriously?
So THAT'S how they figure P4P rankings.
Which floyd has been in all the previous divisions he's been in.
I'm not sure he earned that spot at 140 by beating Gatti and not Tszyu or Cotto or later Hatton. You could argue that Judah and Baldomir earned him that spot at 147, but I'm not sure he's done enough since to keep that spot. Hatton's credentials at 147 were pretty weak.
1. Pacquiao
if he knocks Marquez out cold
2. Calzaghe
- Beat Hopkins by a wide UD
3. Mayweather
- Will receive a lot of criticisms by the media and fans of doing a rematch with Oscar.. He will only fight once next year and will be a rematch with again Oscar and only fights for huge pay checks Hatton and Oscar instead of fighting Cotto,Mosley,Margarito,Williams or Cintron with all the 147 out there.
It's just my own opinion but I will not be even surprised if Joe and Pac will get the top 2 spots.
i don't know do you really think that they will take floyd off the number 1 spot

Umm p4p isn't based on who's the best in the division.
P4P is personal opinion pretty much, it's not an official criteria so why fret?
It's not a fret, it's merely explaining what it really is. it seems so many get caught up in P4P and top 10, top 20 or whatever by whoever (ring, wbc, wba, etc) when the only thing that really matters is you either hold a belt or you don't.
and if a fighter doesn't hold a belt, the only things we know about them for sure for sure is;
1) you haven't been around long enough to get one
2) you aren't good enough to get one
3) you weren't good enough to keep one
anything more than that is unsubstantiated opinion.

Who cares... it's arbitrary anyway. It's supposed to give you an idea... it's not the be all end all. I agree with everything you said, but the tone. On the list of things wrong with boxing... the media's p4p rankings rank like 2089th.
