I've just read a question and answer interveiw in a back issue of boxing news (post Pavlick) where Taylor states that he has hardly ever watched boxing, never goes to fights and cannot name any of todays champions let alone of yesteryear, how the fuck can you reach that level of a sport you dont love or have little interest in??
Taylor is kind of the opposite of Sugar Ray Robinson because he doesn't really like boxing (the technical part of it) but he likes to fight (the brawling part of it).
Chris Eubank didn't like boxing.
You think Sugary Ray Robinson liked boxing. I'm not in anyway comparing SRR to Taylor but if you read Robinson's bio, he says that he hates boxing and fought as much as he did because he had to for the paycheck.
Apparently he was great at it and is considered the greatest p4p fighter of all time by the majority of credible historians and fans in general.
he's still not very skilled. He has maybe 2 or 3 punches that he can throw. Relies on his reflexes, handspeed and toughness.
i would say power-size-handspeed-toughness......
thats all you need to beat b-hops ass....twice.....
some think taylor is athletically gifted......i think he's just physically gifted......hes still my boy though...
winky is the only boxer who i really think is a huge fan of the sport...
hold your horses
Fighting, to me, seems barbaric. I don't really like it. I enjoy out-thinking another man and out-maneuvering him, but I still don't like to fight.” - ray robinson
this is his exact quote. And the latter part of it = boxing. There is a difference between fighting and boxing. I to agree that the out thinking and out maneuvering is the coolest part.
Yeah I am a big fan of outmaneuvering and not fighting thats why I always watch Friday Night Limbo on the Professional Limbo Network, you should check it out, Floyd is a commentator during the semi annual championship match.
Actually to be good at something you dont have to love it or even like it.
But people who tend to love what they do usually spend more time doin it and are therefore probably better at it.
winky wright, roy jones, jeff lacy are some of the few REAL FIGHT FANS that are fighters as well. Floyd mayweather is a fight fan as well but not like winky and lacy. Oscar delahoya doesnt really enjoy fights that much either, when you watch him ringside at fights he's promoting he has a straight face the whole time. He has no emotion. Fight fans have emotion. Taylor may not be interested in other boxers but , he's now interested in fighting for his pride. He fights for himself, much like Miguel Cotto.
Yeah I think Bhop is another who likes fights. The bajado-Forbes fight he was really getting into it.
Sugar Ray Robinson hated Boxing, he only did it for the money.
Fighters who go to alot of the fights are.
Wayne McCullough
Jeff Lacy
Mayweather goes to alot of fights, I think more to be seen.(a few years ago he told me, he diden't really follow the sport)
Those are here in Vegas, to me it seems that in Europe the fighters go to the fights alot more.
I remember seeing Naz,Bruno,Benn alot of those guys were always at the fights.

I have heard Cotto & Floyd say the same thing before. Whatever the case is JT managed to medal at the olympics & win the recognized MW title with only 1 loss in like 30 fights.
it was pretty much common knowledge that Taylor was dissinterested in boxing but i didnt know to what extent until i read that interveiw....i'll dig it out and let you know what issue it was
i think it was an Everlast Catalog, interviewed by Teddy Atlas. Not sure though. But i read it too so it definetly happened, u aint lying
John Scully told me that Mike Oliver is the same way. In remote places where there isn't a large boxing fraternity, there are a lot of fighters that aren't in the know as to who are the top fighters nowadays.
I remember reading of Joe Louis towards the end of his career, when his management tried to preserve whatever tolerance of the sport that remained in him by not mentioning boxing or anything like that.
I really find that hard to belive.

It's called talent and good marketing. Eric Dickerson hated football, he was one of the best to do it though. I think it was Dickerson who was quoted as saying he disliked football.
that explains why he isn't very skilled.
lol funny post lol He must get a good fighter he has no skills yet beat bernard hopkins twice, yes i know the first fight was controversal but in the second he beat hopkins fair and square.
