Interesting how the head of HBO boxing chose to give Max the job.
Ross Greenburg a Jewish American is most well known for his work as President of HBO Sports.
Kellerman described himself as atheist. Despite this, he is active in Jewish cultural activities and, according to The Forward, is fluent in Yiddish. Max is an avid hip-hop fan, evidenced by his intro music on his ESPN Radio show.
I just think that that Max is not worthy of the job.
It remains a real big mystery how more experienced commentators did not get the job. I wondery why??
We'll have to agree to disagree. I scored Cotto/Mosley a draw, but I wouldn't ague with someone who had Cotto winning 115-113, or with someone who had Mosley winning by the same margin. From what he said, it was implied that he had Jones ahead (likely 2-1) but he wouldn't argue with someone who gave one of those rounds to Tito (thus having him ahead 2-1.)
Of course he has a terrible scoring bias, but to claim that wasn't my intention in making this thread.
he also said he wouldnt argue with giving trinidad two rounds, which obviously would have been 2 of the first 3. which means if he wouldnt have had jones ahead after 3 rounds.

But he says too much. In that role Merchant keeps to his place. Kellerman has no business talking over the expert, which was Steward in that case. But he's overzealous and has no self-control
They never show his scorecard. He made the point about how subjective scoring was and how he disagreed with Lederman, that at that point he saw Jones landing all the clean hard shots, which, after three rounds, he was wrong about. I don't remember any mention of "how the fight was unfolding."

he didnt show a scorecard, he simply said he didnt see the fight unfolding the way everyone else did. he said jones was landing all the clean hard shots, he was right, they were wrong, jones took over the fight just like kellerman indicated
i dont recall seeing a kellerman scorecard at any point during the fight.

Kellerman had Jones winning after 3 rounds, which is just silly.

i dont see why people dont like kellerman, i think people just resent him cause hes young, strange looking and has a job that everyone on here would kill for.
in the jones trinidad fight it was kellerman who pointed out after ledermen gave the first three to trinidad that Jones was landing the cleaner harder shots and that he would gradually take the fight over. it was an astute observation and 100 percent correct, yet he was the only one on air who saw it happening

Kellerman is more a fan than observer, truly.
i agree!... hes not right for that job.... i think he favors the fighters he likes. That means he's more of a "fan"
So basically... it wasn't like Tua-Ibeabuchi at all. Thanks, Max.
He said Ibeabuchi-Byrd... which it actually kind of was like Ibeabuchi-Byrd.
I was praying to god that he didn't actually liken Eddie Chambers to David Tua. :nonono:
I agreed with his assesment of Roy Jones Jr in his last performance, when he said if Roy wants to feel good after his next fight he better fight someone smaller like De La Hoya, as opposed to the Pavlik/Taylor winner or Hopkins/Calzaghe winner!!!!
Yeah he is fucking useless. He actually takes away from the fights that he comments on. I would rather listen to silence then Max.
and he probably made about $15,000 last night for the "observations" he shared with us.
I don't think anythng he said last night was wirth more than five cents if you axe me
"This fight is a lot like Tua-Ibeabuchi. The difference being that Ibeauchi was bigger and stronger than Povetkin, and that Tua had more power than Chambers."
So basically... it wasn't like Tua-Ibeabuchi at all. Thanks, Max.
To me, the Jim Lampley-Larry Merchant-George Foreman trio had the best chemistry of class, panache, and entertainment. They made every HBO show an event, regardless of who was on.
