now....I don't think at this point in his career he can beat calzaghe. Mainly for the fact that he lays back way too much and calzaghe punches the entire fight. i could see it turning into a very frustrating fight for Jones fans.
When Jones presses and unleashes he is still one of if not the best in the world. His defense is just not there anymore. his feet and head movement aren't what they used to be.
All of that said...to be a 40 year old man the guy is simply a FREAK. Not many humans on earth like that guy.
yeah, no, hell yeah he did great for his age (and ring age) and given his last couple fights and what it could've done to him mentally.. happy to see
Hey whats up restless, I havn't talked to you in a while. Lampley and Kellerman wern't impressed. But it seems the fans were happy and Emanuel Steward like what he saw. I thought Roy's crown was cool, that wasn't a corny crown like the one Tarver had on...lol
I'm happy to see people are giving Roy credit for looking good in a 12 round decision. I thought I'd see everyone saying hes a shot fighter because he didn't knock Tito out. No Roy didn't look spectacular, but he did well.

You don't need great reflexes if you have a great based defense.
Roy doesn't throw his jab enough, and his reflexes aren't what they used to be.
Bernard Hopkins stops Roy Jones.
Which was my point. You can learn defense, you cannot learn the freaky reflexes Roy has.
For Hopkins vs. Roy now, it really doesn't matter: Bernard lost to Roy once and avoided him throughout Roy's prime.
Restless- again...you are the one that brought Bernard in this thread. I simply said that roy for his age is a freak. can you not even admit that?
(btw as you know they already fought in their primes...and...welll....you know)
what did i not just do??
I didn't say Jones turned in a "bad" performance tonight.. he did look good from what i could see.. he can prepared to fight and you could tell he still keeps himself in great shape and it should be a model for other boxers as they get deeper into their careers
and yeah, as of right now, Hopkins beats Jones, no questions
hey, i like Roy.. he's made me dissapointed many times in the past couple years so it's good to see him smiling with his hand raised again, calm down

wow you guys are pathetic.
You can't even admit that for a 40 year athlete (ok 39 jeez) he is amazing.
No he is not the guy he was years ago and no he cannot beat everyone out there right now. THAT IS NOT THE POINT. You should have all watched what he did tonight in amazment. 40 years old and that kind of handspeed and physical shape is just a freak of nature.

however, his performance tonight against this Tito Trinidad who hadn't fought in 3 YEARS(!!) didn't warrant as much acclaim as Bernard's performance against the 24-3 light heavyweight champion at the time, Antonio Tarver who was coming off his 2nd win against who? Jones Jr.
Bernard uses great boxing technique, great defense, but his reflexes, if he had his hands down all the time, are nowhere near Roy's.

Roy was simply amazing.Yeah I know It was over a middleweight fighter but you have to give Roy all the credit In the world for the stamina he has at 40 years old.If you did not know his age you would have thought you were watching a 30 year old Roy Jones(Roy could have fought an additional 5 rounds). He also has a tremendous defense as most of the punches Tito threw hit Roys gloves.Last but not least Is Roys speed,he Is still lightning fast and by far the fastest boxer In his division. The negative things that Roy showed once again tonight as he did In the Tarver fights were laying on the ropes and dropping his hands which will certainly catch up with him as It did In the past.As far as Tito goes he certainly Is not shot and could still make a nice living fighting at a lower weight class.
i'm gonna watch it again in better quality this week but i seriously doubt its as impressive as the performance Bernard Hopkins put together against Antonio Tarver.. that was just amazing to see with your own eyes..
I wasn't impresed. Tarver was clearly deflated from the weight-loss, just like Roy was. It was a "what goes around comes around" example (since Tarver didn't believe what Roy said about losing muscle weight in a short time hurts you).
It wasn't that Roy won, it was how crisp he looked when he was on offense. Roy has lost almost all of his movement on defense and probably some of his timing, but somehow his raw handspeed at 39 is still the same as it ever was. It is incredible. I don't think we'll see Jones KO'd again for the record. His new old man stand still and catch defensive style is actually going to be better in that sense. He was horrible defensively in the past and just dodged punches on physical ability. Now he actually blocks them so he probably won't get KO'd. The problem is that opponents can score with judges against Roy now and he can be beat by decision more easily. Calzaghe would beat him by a fairly wide marging too at that.
Jones just turned 39, so he's not 40 yet, he also beat a former welterweight that been washed for years.
Lets not get carried away with this fight, Hopkins is the Freak of Nature, not Jones.
Hopkins at the age of 42 dominated the best light heavyweight in the world and also won a close fight against the P4P #2.
exactly.. remember all the predictions from people going into that one?? almost all for Tarver
This fight was more exciting then Bernard vs Wright/Tarvar/Taylor II put together
It was actually a good fight, and Roys speed and the way he put together punches impressed me alot, and the corner work did too,the way he knew what he was doing and pointing out the mistakes he could see,he was inteligent in the corner
I agree, thought JOnes put on an entertaining performance. He dusted off some of his old combos.

Jones feet are in wet cement...I've said this since he returned to fight Tarver (I). I also say the years in which he was able to control a fight hurt him in the end because the amount of punches kept going down. Even Floyd's punch-out-put has gown down, even against a lighter fight like Ricky.
