In your opinion. It's been called the worst robbery of all-time.
But, there is also this:
Ramirez as Champion kept the title. Whitiker was on his bicycle way too much to give him enough rounds to win.
So, have at it!
Go easy on the guy, he is still learning, he will come around some day. Right now he is going through the infatuation stage, where no fighter he likes can do anything wrong.
Eventually he will come to realize that even though Pernell is close to infallible, he made some mistakes that night, and it ended up costing him the fight.
I don't even fucking like Whitaker...
The only mistake Whitaker made was that he trusted in the judges.
He clearly won the fight but two of the judges weren't impressed.
We have had that here in Finland. Some of our boxers have been totally owned in the ring by foreign fighters but they still got the decisions because they were hometown fighters, the fans wanted to see them win and if they didn't, the fans wouldn't come back to see them fight. That would cost the local promoters money.
After the fights the judges explained that the foreign fighter 'didn't do enough to get the decision over the champion/hometown fighter'.
It sucks but it's just business I guess.
Ferocity also scored Hopkins Tarver and Lewis Holyfield 1 a draw...
Yeah....
I know... he also told me I don't know anything about boxing, so I figured I would shop around for people who can teach me boxing first, so I make sure I get someone who knows what they are talking about.
This isn't a very good first impression for what Ferocity knows about boxing.

Ramirez had a fantastic record of 100 wins only 6 losses, Whitaker on the other hand was undefeated with a record of 15 wins 0 losses.
And about the decision, the fight was held in France. The French are notoriously bad at judging boxing matches. I've never seen a fight go to the real winner (except by KO) in France.
It's worth noting that Ramirez's previous ten fights were in France, so he was pretty much the hometown fighter in that match.
What does it matter if I was his son? A blind man could tell he won that fight. This forum is so goddamn lame it's pathetic. Worst boxing forum I've ever been on. Bunch of stereotyping know-nothing retards.
You also voted for Whitaker, so what the fuck does it matter?
I mean, I was merely commenting that I figured "Sweet Pete" wasn't going to score an easy fight for Whitaker for Ramirez.
Flow pretty heavy this month?
I accidently voted for JLR, I feel like an asshole. Whitaker easy.
Lol, so that makes three votes for Ramirez... one legitimate, and two from people who accidentally clicked the wrong one.

When I saw "Sweet Pete" posted here, I was pretty sure which way you voted.

wasnt this a split decision, i remember watching this on espn classic, where they gave a bunch of sweat pea fights, i believe one judge had whitaker losing by a large amount which is absurd and only one judge had the fight close.
Yup, 118-113 Whitaker, 116-115 Ramirez, 117-113 Ramirez.

I suspect that none of you have seen the fight recently.
Whitaker all but fell apart in the last few round, and he didn't pile the rounds up in the beginning as well has he could have.
The bottom line... Whitaker was young, green, and challenging for his first world title. I thought he won a close decision, but he was not as impressive as many are making him out to be in this fight.
The second fight, that is a whole different story. Whitaker - Ramirez II was without a doubt, Pernell Whitaker's single best display of virtuosity in his entire career. It's what he should have done in the first fight, but was not experienced enough to know.
I actually thing the loss helped Pete out. It taught him how important it is to be flashy when he is working his defense. He learned it's not just enough to make a man miss, he has to make the man look silly while he is making him miss, but he also learned that it can be over done.
This is the fight where Pete really learned what playing to the judges is all about. He didn't do it like should have, and as a result, he through away a victory, that he could have easily won.:lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
First of all, Whitaker wasn't green. He was green when facing someone like Roger Mayweather, but not Ramirez, even though he wasn't peak yet. Second of all, to call that anything less than a disgusting robbery shows why I don't take you seriously. Then you say Toney beat Tiberi and that the fight with Jones was close. You're a fool dude, a fool.

I watched the fight 2 weeks ago. I couldn't believe they gave the fight to Ramirez, I had 9-3 for Whitaker.
This is a problem many Mayweather nut huggers have. They have trouble distinguishing between being the better fighter, and winning a round..
Against Ramirez, Whitaker gave away many rounds, even though he was clearly the better fight. He simply wasn't doing enough to win the round in many of them.
I still gave it to Whitaker, but it wasn't a highway robbery.
Whitaker was making him miss and landing way more than Ramirez was, it was a robbery, one of the worst I have seen.

Whitaker toyed with Ramirez the entire fight. It wasn't even close.
