Ha gotta love James Toney interviews, one of the true all time greats. Heres the interview from B-Talk, thanks to "lilwettongue"
JT: "He'd be a good stepping stone. He's perfect. It's like this I'll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime, that's my motto and it doesn't matter who the opposition is. I've never been one to take no easy fights. For me to fight a tune-up fight I have to be motivated and I would be motivated with Jirov because he's been talking a lot of **** like Jameel McCline, the big six foot seven ***got. He runs his mouth saying he wants to fight me, but they ain't trying to call me. They know the number they can call."
GL: Who do you like in the Ibragimov-Klitschko fight?
JT: "Neither one. They both suck. GL: No prediction for the fight?
JT: "Hell no. I'm not even going watch the fight. Klitschko should knock the bum out, but it's a battle of bums. Who's the better bum?
GL: So you don't think heavyweight unification is a good thing?
JT: "Man, the road to the heavyweight title still goes through me. None of these heavyweights have beaten James Toney or can run through me. The fans know that I'm the only legitimate fighter out there at heavyweight. I beat the **** out of Samuel Peter the first time, I beat him the second time and he was running for the last six rounds. How is a big man going to run from a small man? Come on man! Stop giving these clowns credit. I took it all out of Samuel Peter and it showed when he fought McCline.
GL: What kind of shape are you in right now?
JT: "I'm in great shape, I can fight 15 rounds right now."
GL: What did you think about Mayweather-Hatton?
JT: "I told you Floyd was going to knock that bum out. Every fighter that ever comes from over there ends up getting their world rocked."
GL: So you like Hopkins over Calzaghe?
JT: "Absolutely. Hopkins is going to mop the floor with him. Calzaghe is an overrated bum. He's talked **** about me about a year ago and I didn't forget about it. He's lucky I wasn't in Vegas when he was talking smack with Bernard. But the guy is all hype."
GL: A hot topic in boxing has been Mayweather and should he fight Miguel Cotto. Do you think Cotto has a chance over Mayweather?
JT: "If Mayweather doesn't show up he's got a chance. Cotto is a good fighter. I didn't like him at first, but after Zab Judah and Shane Mosley he showed that he got some skills, but not enough to mess with Floyd. Floyd would do him the same way he did Hatton. Floyd can fight inside and outside. He fights like James Toney. I created that style. Not his daddy, I did."
When did he turn that down?
Toney Turns Down $ 1.5 Mil Offer For Klitschko Fight
If somehow Toney accepts the match with Wladimir, it will be taking place at the Madison Square Garden on November 11th. Nevertheless, the offer will have to increase substantially, since Toney is reported to want at least $2.5 million to fight Wladimir, which is quite a bit of money for a challenger to get.
For many people, a fight between James Toney (69-4-3, 43 KO's) and Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF heavyweight champion, would seem to be a match made in heaven. However, as the saying goes, ‘good things never come easy,’ which is the case for the making of a fight between Wladimir and Toney. Apparently, from all accounts, Toney isn't particularly interested in fighting Wladimir (46-3, 41 KO's) for a mere $1.5 mil, saying, in part, he's not interested in that "chump change," and is leaning more towards fighting the winner of Hasim Rahman and Oleg Maskaev for the WBC heavyweight title, which takes place on August 12th..

I wish people would stop giving respect to Toney for what he used to do.
He got absolutely outclassed by Roy Jones then beaten by Griffin. His answer to those loses, more food and steroids.
End result, a decent very fat 'heavyweight' in a poor era of the division.
No will power and a cheat with no class.
To call a guy like Calzaghe a bum is classless and actually points the finger back at Toney who didn't have the desire or will power to attempt to become the best in his division.
James Toney: Calzaghe is an overrated Bum
GL: What did you think about Mayweather-Hatton?
JT: "I told you Floyd was going to knock that bum out.
Every fighter that ever comes from over there ends up getting their world rocked."
GL: So you like Hopkins over Calzaghe?
JT: "Absolutely. Hopkins is going to mop the floor with him. Calzaghe is an overrated bum. He's talked shiit about me about a year ago and I didn't forget about it. He's lucky I wasn't in Vegas when he was talking smack with Bernard. But the guy is all hype."
I still love James, and to be fair, he was probably the only elite fighter who would given Cal an opportunity back in Cals better yet obscure unknown days of the late 90’s (at catch weight).
Toney might just be everything that is wrong with the sport of boxing. He has disrespected the sport both by his lack of training and the fact he used drugs to cheat. I basically disagree with everything that comes out of his mouth. He is conceited, racist, and pretty much deplorable in every way…
But for some God-awful reason I can’t get enough of hearing him talk and for some really odd reason I have always been a fan of his. He is nothing like any of the boxers I like or respect but yet I can’t get enough of the guy and I really don’t have a clue why that is.
It's called entertainment my friend.

Don't turn to the dark side, Luke.
James Toney is an all time great
Based on what? A loss to Roy Jones Junior and an inability to say no to that third cupcake?
Toney was a decent fighter when he could be bothered but he was always far too indisciplined to be counted among the all time greats at any weight he fought at. Besides which he got outboxed by Sam Peter.
Ain't this a funny thread...the two racist morons, barewolf and Wlad Blows calling James Toney a racist.Which Toney may be...it's just funny to hear the pot calling the kettle black.
