In 2006 Kelly Pavlik began to make a name for himself by being the first person to stop Bronco Mckart and then following up by making short work of Leonard Pierre who was coming off of a stoppage loss in an war against willie gibbs. 2007 was a big year for Pavlik knocking out tough fringe contender Jose Luis Zertuche in 8 and stopping the then unstoppable force known as Edison Miranda. And that is when things changed. Everyone thought Miranda was a machine, would tear through Pavlik and then eat Taylor alive. But looking back, yes Miranda is a feared puncher. But also very limited skill wise. And if you look at Pavlik who is a good puncher, with a high output and is fairly technically sound. It should of been pretty clear than Pavlik was going to have the upper hand but instead by beating Miranda, he got the Antonio Margarito power and suddenly any opponent against him is a TKO1 win for him. So Taylor and Pavlik finaly meet, and in the 2nd round Pavliks invincibility is tested he is knocked down and probobly came within 3 punches of being stopped. But miraculously Pavlik was able to come back from that to stop the fatigued Taylor. So now with two big wins over the limited Miranda and great athlete but still slightly unproven champion Taylor, Pavlik has now become disgustingly overrated where all of a sudden theirs talks hes able to go up in weight and knock out the likes of Mikkel Kessler and shoe-in HoF'er Joe Calzaghe. So to keep it short, Pavlik is a good fighter but too many people are hyping him to be the next RJJ and in a few years he'll clean out the heavyweight division
I hanv't seen that many of Kessler fights. I'll tell you one thing though Liberado Andrade wouldn't be standing up at the end of round 12 if Pavlik was hitting him.
different as in Kessler TKO 1? KO 10 maybe?
Pavliks got alot of heart, i could see him putting up a good fight it would probobly be Kessler by decision and he may knock down kelly. If their is a stoppage tho it would be late.
I do agree Kessler could of done more that fight he was thrown off alot by Calzaghe's speed and punch output. But a Kessler-Pavlik match up would be WAY different

Kessler promoter better bill him against a guy they can make a big event out of next fight to cash in on this aura of invinibility alot of people seem to think he has right now. If he fights just ordinary fighters or pretty good fighters his stock is going to go down and he's a good fighter but I really cant understand why it seemed to go up so much after the Calzaghe fight. I was dissapointed in his performance, he could have done more.

Partial list of Guys Pavlik would Knock the Fuck Out: Joe Calzaghe, Bute, Mundine, Abraham, Strum, Kessler, Hopkins, Wright, Klitshtko, Dawson, Irragimov, Haye, Cunningham, A prime Holyfield, A prime Lewis, A prime Joe Jouis, Apollo Creed, A prime Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago, Rocky Balboa and Leila Ali.
you forgot kobe, moss, owens, jordan, iverson, rampage, and chuck norris. :nutkick:
Pavlik is a better boxer than I expected (I picked him to KO Taylor but mostly because of his punching power) but I still want to see him against Taylor again and some other MW contenders like Abraham, Duddy & Lee before I start praising him too much.
He will eventually step into the SMW&LHW divisions and Kessler vs Pavlik is the fight I want to see.
Kelly Pavlik is one of those fighters who fights anyone. I love that. As opposed to Cotto, fighting old people and Gomez, or Calzaghe, fighting 43 year olds instead of Trinidad or Roy Jones (more his own age), Kelly Pavlik IS NOT AFFRAID. I admire that. I hope he keeps fighting exciting fights as he always does, against whoever challenges him for the right $ of course..
he's a great fighter no doubt, bu i think he'll be found wanting if he fought calzaghe and would be beaten by kessler quite easy.
Pavlik vs kessler would be a great fight but kessler would box his head off and the chances are if taylor hurt pavlik then kessler would take his head of with a straight right or uppercut.
He is a great fighter though and one that boxing needs badly.
Seems to me that Pavlik was under-hyped. He really had to start KTFO top level guys before anyone even noticed him. I knew about Taylor long before he was the champion.
I agree. I think the white thing worked against him.
You guys are overrating Pavlik. He's beat a weight drained Miranda and a mentally weak Jermain Taylor. If Taylor just decided to box Kelly the whole fight, Taylor would have one a one-sided decision.
Cool, i guess JT and Miranda are overrated as well. thanks for that :cop:
he is actually properly rated as the middle weight champ.:cop:
Like I said, overated.

LMAO funny post. But seriously Kelly is good. He's not overated, he's just white. That's the thing with white fighters, they are bond to be over hyped but that doesn't take away the fact Pavlik is a very good fighter with KO power in both hands. Taylor was a great champion and was beat fair and square.
