If Shane Mosley would have beat Miguel Cotto i can almost gurantee you Mayweather-Mosley would already be in the making. But Cotto won and now Mayweather wants to retire. All Mayweather cares about his money i hate him. On 24/7 he says he has enough money that the only reason hes fighting is obviosly for love of the sport, then on the next episode he will say its all about money. He contradicts himself.
Mayweather makes his fights very carefully ever since he has moved p to 140. He only makes fights hes pretty much positive he will win and make good money doing. Hes smart, yes. Hes a great fighter, yes. But hes unwilling to take risks.
I think Cotto-Mayweather would be a great fight if its ever made and i just hope it happens in the future. Hopefully Cotto has a good 08 and raises his stock some more to lure Floyd into a fight. A win over De La Hoya would surely do that.
Classic dumbass hater statement. An undefeated P4P Corrales was not a risk? A prime Castillo in his first fight at 135 wasn't a risk? Zab Judah who just knocked out Cory Spinks wasn't a risk? AN OSCAR DE LA HOYA WHO WAS 19 POUNDS HEAVIER ON FIGHT NIGHT WASN'T A RISK?!?!
Let's see Miguel Cotto move to 154 and dominate. Then let's see him go to 160 and become the Ring Champion, then let's see him go to 168 and beat Calzaghe. In order to even be compared to Floyd, that's what he would have to accomplish.
Yes, a prime Castillo wasn't supposed to be the threat he became to Mayweather. Mayweather and people thought he had an easy fight, back fired on them.
Judah hadn't just knocked out Spinks but had just lost to baldomier, stop with the pound differnce, Delahoya is an old man.
You are asking too much of Cotto while we are asking for Mayweather to take the fights at his weight, dededeee.
Stop talking about height. Thats all people talk about on here. It doesnt mean anything. There are guys in boxing and people in the real world who are 6ft and some way 250 while others way 150. It has nothing to do with your size. Cotto's only 5'7 but he's built like a truck. Stop trying to make it sound like he is small. He's not. Dont make it sound like he's this tiny guy moving up either. Anyone with eyes can see that he was never a 140 pounder. He killed himself every fight to make weight and looked so sick at the weigh-ins. He's big as shit. He's wide and thick. Look at Tyson & Chico's height. I guess that means Tyson isnt that big either, right?
What the hell are you bringing up a heavy weight for? We're talking about grown men that weigh 147 pounds. No grown ass man that wieghs 147 pound is big as shit. I agree with you that he was killing himself at 140 but he's said many times now that he feels really good at 147. I never said he was tiny I just don't think he's weird big either. He's just your avg WW. I can't stand when people try to make it sound like he's a damn beast. He's normal.
MR suarez the thing is Floyd is like 5"7 so when he begin in the sport he was very big in comparition to the other oponents. His size is like the everege ww fighter. Thats why he has gone so far in climbing divitions. Obviosly he got skills but his body gives him flexibility to fight in other divitions and extend his carrer. The same thing is with paul williams. If he wants he can get to almost heavyweight. Look Roy Jones is 5'11 so the welterwieght williams is bigger than en ex heavyweight champ. MY point is that in 147 floyd got the limit in terms of physical limitations because theres is a point where the physical limitations are too big thato almost all the skills in the world just cant help you a lot. My point is that when you compare Floyd size when he beging his carrer to the size of Cotto when he began his carrer you see that Floyd has more flexibility to climb divitions rather than Cotto. This arguments said it all Floyd began with 5"7 in the lightweights and in ww he has gone as far of his physical atributios can let him go so imagine a guy that is only an inch bigger like Cotto who is 5"8 and began in JW and right now is in the ww. If Floyd got as far as his physical atributions let him get so Cotto with only one inch bigger also did. So thats why Cotto would never have the oportunity to have all the belts that floyd has because he began in a weight near of what his physical atributions can let him go. Rather than he goes back to lowers divitions to hunt more belts. Because if he hunts him up he has no chance like Floyd at this moment.
wow, then your 5 pounds and a few years wronger than i thought. congradulations.
Cotto is ready now because he is coming off the 2 biggest wins of his career. Do you not see that? You want Cotto to fight Mayweather after he beats DeMarcus Corley and Mohammed Abullaebv or after he beats Zab Judah and Shane Mosley? Hes ready now because hes on the elite level now. People picked him to lose against Oscar? I sure as hell didnt.
Why do you keep comparing Floyd and Cotto's accomplishments? Did i ever say Cotto has done more and can travel further in weight? That Cotto is the man? That Cotto will even beat Floyd? I said Cotto deserves a fukin shot, and he does. I never said Cotto is better and is the man. Cotto has earned a shot and he rightfully deserves it. And Floyd just isnt willing to make it happen because of money, and i say its stupid. He'll still make millions. Thats what this thread is about. Not who has gone up further in weight and accomplished more. Stop trying to twist the argument to something it isnt to favor your side.

If he was to beat Cotto it would show that he's willing to verse the best, too me it would prove once and for all that he is the greatest fighter going around at the moment. It is frustrating to watch him fight mainly for money, he should instead be using his skill to show that he may well be one of the all time greats.
I'm not sure you're suggesting Floyd would outbox or stop Cotto by allowing himself to get on the ropes and countering him as he did vs DLH and Hatton? That's not the fight I would expect from Floyd vs Cotto, I think he would avoid the ropes at all costs and try to pot shot Cotto in the middle of the ring and clinch as much as he can. Only problem is that Floyd isn't the only one who has a great jab on this one, Cotto is not as fast as Floyd but he could give Floyd fits if they fought.no, i was suggesting that cotto did fight good against shane in the middle of the ring but against floyd, he would get countered all day imo in the middle of the ring or even on the ropes, because cotto fights best when his opponent is on the ropes, but floyd's defense is good as hell off of the ropes and although that is where floyd is most vulnerable, he d is still good, because he has shown that he can counter off of the ropes well like he did against oscar in the 5th round, like he did against corley, and genaro. what i'm suggesting is that cotto would have to stary away from boxing floyd, especially in the middle of the ring because floyd is too fast but not only that, he is too accurate a puncher for cotto to try to outbox him, so cotto would have to land a solid punch on floyd to slow him down and i don't think he would land much on floyd at all, and i could see floyd getting a tko on cotto, because of how pinpoint he gets especially in the later rounds. people say floyd gets stronger as the fight progresses, but i disagree, he stays strong throughout the fight but at a tempered pace whether offensively of defensively, which is why i always put the word methodical in my posts while describing floyd, because he is too methodical a fighter for cotto. he knows how to frustrate you in any round he sees a mistake from you in. cotto is a solid, good fighter, no doubt about it, but floyd is too methodically complex for him, but nonetheless, they will fight evenutally i truly believe and i will buy it.
I agree mate but I think we will see Cotto against Mayweather at the end of this year. Mayweather is too greedy to turn it down and I think the fans will back him into a corner untill he fights Cotto. If Cotto loses his next fight though I don't think they will ever fight.
I agree with you, Not only the fans but the media always brings up Cotto's name when ever they are interviewing Mayweather. I think it will happen sometime late 08. But Cotto will probably fight either Clottey/Williams or Margarito before the fight with PBF is made.
nonsense! Miguel Cotto is 5'7" for godsakes. He's got a wide back but thats it. Give that a rest. I can't believe your quoting Manny. He looked stronger than Shane but he didn't look much bigger, Thats bullshit! Miguel Cotto isn't a big WW at all. He's your avg WW. Mayweather would do just fine at WW if it wasn't the most talent rich division in the sport.
As far as the topic goes... It doesn't matter who won the fight. Mayweather wouldn't be fighting Mosley either. Floyds been ducking Mosley since they were lightweights. The outcome would be the same either way, Mayweather just doesn't want to face the chance of loosing

It has only been a several weeks since Floyd's last fight. Why dont you let the shit play out before you start running your mouth. DAMN this shit is getting pretty pathetic IMO. The guy cant have a little time to make up his fucking mind without someone keeping his name in their mouth.:nonono:
I'm not Floyd and neither are you, he damn sure aint giving you none of that money. As a boxing fan, I rather see him fight Clottey of course, it would be a better match up.
.....well said
Actually, it was at 130, "dumb shit".
The Judah fight was signed immediately after Judah beat Spinks. In other words, IT WAS SIGNED BEFORE HE LOST TO BALDOMIR
Ok, he fought "old" De la Hoya, who many if not MOST people picked him to lose against, who everyone was saying was looking great after beating Mayorga, who described himself as being "in the best shape of my life", at a higher weight class, and with a 19-pound weight disadvantage on fight night. 154 is 5 weight classes above were Floyd started. If that's such a small feat and Cotto is the man, why doesn't he go 5 weight classes above where he started and take on Calzaghe at 168? Even if he did, he wouldn't deserve credit according to you, because Oscar was old at 34 yet Calzaghe is 36.
Of course Cotto is willing NOW, now that Floyd is the biggest draw in the sport and a guaranteed career-high payday. Back in 2005 when he didn't have mainstream recognition, Cotto "wasn't ready". Nobody was, in fact. Yet somehow FLOYD is the only one who cares about money.
wow, then your 5 pounds and a few years wronger than i thought. congradulations.

and who cares if the Judah fight was already signed, it still happened. And officially, it was NOT signed. Floyd could have gotten out of it. Because the agreement was that Judah had to BEAT Baldomir and he DIDNT.
Stop being a Cotto nutlicker.............literally.
Why would you say that? I am a fan of Cotto but that doesn't make me a nutlicker... funny as shit choice of words though.

The 2nd and biggest reason is size. Stop making it sound like its because Cotto is so scary talented. Shane is easily bigger then Floyd but there size is comparable. Cotto made Shane look like a little boy in the ring. Manny Steward is the biggest Floyd hater there is and "the 1st thing he said in the Cotto-Mosley fight is that you can clearly see how much naturally bigger Cotto is then Mosley. He looks like he's definatly a weight class and maybe 2 classes bigger then Mosley".
Now if Shane is clearly bigger and thicker then Floyd and Cotto made him look like a little boy then Floyd will definatly hesitate to take that fight. Even though Shane went to 154 he has always looked smaller then all the guys he fought. Thats why Floyd seen him as a good matchup because even though he was bigger, he's still much closer to Floyd then all the other big WW's are. I mean, just look at what you guys are saying. If Shane had won then Floyd wouldve fought him. That means that if Shane had won then he wouldve looked like a beast that killed a bad mofo. So if Floyd wouldnt be scared of that then why be worried about Cotto? If he won then he obviously had more skill then Cotto. The difference is that Cotto is huge. Its not about his talent but his crazy size, just like the other guys.
Again, you guys make it sound like Floyd wont fight Cotto but has called out Clottey & Cintron. If he did that then maybe you could argue that Floyd is just scared of Cotto but he hasnt. There too big. Look at Margarito. Is he special? Hell no but Floyd wouldnt fight him either. That throws that Cotto stuff right out the window. Its not there skill set. Margarito dont scare anyone with his skills but he's just so much bigger then Floyd and thats what the problem is. If Floyd loses then he wants it to be because a guy is better then him, not simply just because he was too big. Floyd dont mind fighting bigger guys. He's always done it but at some point you get to a cut off spot and 147 is it. Unless they were the Champ like Baldy or bring money like Oscar then he doesnt need it

If you were Floyd would you fight Clottey for 10 million or Oscar again for 30 million???
I'm not Floyd and neither are you, he damn sure aint giving you none of that money. As a boxing fan, I rather see him fight Clottey of course, it would be a better match up.
Here's a trivia question, how many accountants does PBF have? Must be over 100 on this site alone. Are we boxing fans eager to watch the best match ups out there or fighter's accountants?
You guys are missing the point. Floyd wouldve definatly fought Shane but theres 2 big reasons why. The 1st one is money. Shane was by far a bigger money guy then Cotto. Cotto hadnt had any solid PPV's while Shane has had a ton of them.
The 2nd and biggest reason is size. Stop making it sound like its because Cotto is so scary talented. Shane is easily bigger then Floyd but there size is comparable.
