Are you people serious when you say that any ref besides Smoger would have stopped it in the second?
Pavlik got his face fucked hard by some Taylor punches, but bounced up at the count of 1 and a half, and then survived the round without much trouble (except for being clubbed in the back of the head). I don't think this fight should have even been considered for being stopped.
Forrest-Mosley I was a case when any other referee in the world would have stopped it, but Pavlik-Taylor was NOT!
Ok, then why did Smoger give Miranda the chance to get off of the canvas after he was being brutally beaten the whole entire fight, but he doesn't let the MW Champion of the world have a chance of getting up?
Dibella paid off Smoger because Miranda/Taylor sounded way more attractive than Pavlik/Taylor at the time, look how Smoger practically helped Miranda stay up at one point....all speculation tho.......
I felt Smoger jumped in a bit to early and should have let Taylor go down and given him a chance to get back up. He let Miranda take way more punishement when he fought Pavlik. At least give the champ a chance to get up from teh canvas.
i thought so too but by the expression on taylors face i dont think he would have tried to get up anyways
I disagree, Smoger stopped it as soon as Taylor hit the floor, Taylor was the cahmp, he deserved a chance to get off of the canvas. If he doesn't make it, he doesn't make it, but at least give the champ a chance.
Are you going to pay his medical bills?
how was taylor supposed to move with smoger over him???, i think he shouldve given taylor a chance to stand up as well..... that KO is totally blown out f proprtion, the supposedly brutal uppercut wasnt even that serious, it was the straight to the temple when taylor leaned down that hurt him very very seriously in the corner, but again count to 6 and if hes not moving at all, stop it, stopping it when smoger didi was unfair given the way he gave pavlik a chance....
I felt that Pavlik was very close to being stopped as was about 1 big punch away from it. If he didn't hold on to Taylor after he did the Zab chicken dance across the ring he would've prob gone down again and been stopped.
I think the stoppage of Taylor was a good call. He was trapped in the corner and taking huge shots, Smoger actually saved Taylor from taking a huge left hook on the way down when he jumped in.
I agree with the original post. I didn't really see Pavlik as hurt as some people said he was. His legs were wobbly, but he seemed to be doing a good job of holding on and buying time, by the time the round was over he had recovered. I've seen fighters way more hurt continuing in a fight.
I think the stoppage of Taylor was a judgment call because Taylor was slumping against the ropes with his hands down so I can see why Smoger stepped in.

I feel the same way.
Because his eyes were open and he was voluntarily moving.
Simple as that.
I thought Miranda had some sort of damage done do to those punches by Miranda, something about his brain or something like that. Point is, Taylor wasn't taking the punishment Miranda was throughout the fight, and many people felt that Smoger should have stepped in and called the fight earlier than he did. Taylor's the MW Champ, give him a chance to beat the 10 count.
Diffferent fight. Sure, Miranda might have actually gotten up.
I know... I wasn't calling the Miranda stoppage controversial by the way... I am just saying that there is more merit in the argument that Miranda could have continued (even though there is little to no argument) than the argument that Taylor could have continued.

I'm talking about the part when Smoger actually stopped it. It was more questionable, because Miranda did this thing called moving after it was stopped. Taylor... didn't, at all. He was unconscious.

Haha I wanted to see a ten count also, but just for the thrill of it. Taylor couldn't have gotten up in thirty
thats how people get killed, if taylor gets up and is allowed to continue he woulda got nailed with a shot from hell within 5 seconds
saying taylor deserved a count is like saying that audley harrison deserved one against michael sprott

The extent of the damage dome in Round 2 has been tremendously exaggerated. Taylor had him dazed for a second but was never close to a KO.

But at least give the champ a chance to raise himself from the canvas. Smoger is a ref known for letting fighters fight, I thought he should have at least gave Taylor the chance to beat the count.

You may be right, but we will never know for sure.

Mainly because he lost his composure and was wild with his punches. If he had shown greater composure and accuracy the fight was over.
Slumped to the canvas, with his eyes closed.
Good stoppage.
The Miranda stoppage against Pavlik is more questionable than the Taylor one.

How? Miranda got up TWICE.
