The ignorance displayed by some of boxing fans in this topic towards MMA as a sport is comparable to the stupid stuff that comes out of some MMA nuthuggers mouths.
I'm a fight fan and I can tell you both sports are tough. Boxing is more dangerous though, especially if you're a fighter like Gatti or Baldomir who takes punches to the head for a living.
On the other hand a good defensive fighter like Mayweather doesn't take much punishment at all.
You can make either sport tough for yourself depending on the type of a fighter you are. If you're a quitter you won't get hurt, if you're a warrior, you will.
To me two guys punching each other in the head trying to KO each others tougher than rolling about on the ground trying to get each other into locks.
Watch this (local)in shape MMA fighter up against a badly out of shape amatuer boxer.
The MMA guy gets Ko'd, they cant take the head shots.
mma is real fighting but pays less
so boxers are smarter than mma guys
Wow! Excellent analogy. What ivy league school did you get your MBA from?
This is a good post.
Nice to see some aren't ignorant here.
I dont think there are many MMA fans that think boxing isnt tough.
You're right....overall levels are not as high as boxing. Again its a silly and obvious fact...how long has MMA been around(I'm talking about with all the current rules, rounds, gloves)? What 10 years? Its a sport that is evolving at an incredible pace...in the future the athletes entering MMA will kept getting better and better and the guys themselves will be superior to fighters today for the simple fact they will be cross training at an early age. In the future there is going to be a lot of fighters resembling what Anderson Silva is today(Consider the best p4p MMA fighter in the world by some) Athletic, Excellent striking(Not just hands...kicks, elbows knees), excellent ground game(Hes a Black Belt in Brazilian jiujutsu).
Boxing has such a rich history and is a much more focused form of fighting. Its the sport of punching...MMA is basically the sport of fighting. There is such a wide variety of fighting techniques are used that it makes it extremely difficult to have a perfect record.
With that said it is completely ignorant to compare MMA fighters records with Boxing records. The sports are apples to oranges. You can not make any significant mistakes in a MMA fight. If you do the fight will most likely be over..thats pretty much a fact and anyone who watches MMA has seen it time and time again over the years. You are allowed to use a hell of a lot more weapons, there are more ways to win a fight, you are wearing 4 oz gloves, theres no count if you go down....how the heck can you compare the two? Losing is a part of the sport ...and it says something about the few guys in MMA who don't lose.
Really the motto in MMA is "If you're undefeated then you're not fighting the right guys"
This is a good post.
I see boxing as a man's sport, and MMA as an animal's sport (not that some animals don't exist in boxing)....to me boxing is tougher, even if the MMA is more violent.
well put well put... i think thats the discrepancy the mma guys dont see what gets tougher than knees to the face, but really nothing gets more violent

for those mma fans who say that boxing isn't tough need to really watch. I'm a fan of both and I say any one of us can go out there and give it a go in the boxing ring or the octagon, because we can all go out there and try a sport, but to do it at a level like a mayweather or a rampage jackson is extremely tough to do
I'm sick of the MMA and boxing comparison. why? they are 2 significantly different sports. 2 different skill sets. Even how you go about punching in mma is different. they are both fighting sports but are different in many ways. I love both sports but they shouldn't be compared or dissed by opossing fans. I also am not a fan of crossovers. I don't care for mayweather going to mma or even if liddell came over to boxing. mayweather to mma would degrade that sport and the same if an mma fighter got into boxing.
No it's the peanut gallery who think that boxing isn't tough. My theory is that in any sport you have 70% of the fans who like watching the sport, you have 10% who like it obsessively and you have the 15% peanut gallery who make more noise than the other 85% of fans combined and can't simply gain enjoyment from the sport, they also feel compelled to try to take away the enjoyment fans of other sports get from their game. The morons who say that Rugby League is crap and all fans of Rugby League are idiots, and vice versa. Those that say that American Football is the shit but European football is boring. And the people that say that boxing sucks and MMA rules and of course vice versa.
I agree with that...pretty sad that there is dipshit fans in every sport out there. The sad part is the retard MMA fans will say boxing isn't tough yet will also use the MMA is safe bullshit argument that they were spoon fed by the UFC. Just like the retard boing fans who say MMA fighter are pussies for hugging each other on the ground...I dare any one of those internet tough guys say that to this man in real life

Actually the first death that was attributed to MMA actually happened a month or two ago in Texas...some small organization. MMA has its dangers and now the UFC can't use the "Oh its safe argument". Its not...its a rough sport....and boxing is also a brutal sport with a lot more deaths in its history.
MMA fighters tend not to be the ones saying that boxing isn't tough. The ones saying that boxing isn't tough are the rednecks who watch UFC all the time.
Uh... what? There have been far fewer deaths and serious injuries in MMA than there have been in boxing.
Yeah both are hard as hell or everyone would be champ at both .
The sports are just a world apart but their is a lack of understanding on both fans parts.
In both sport it depends on the fighter if you see tank Abott you won't see much skill but a lot of power, he's the Sam Peter or David Tua of MMA.
But if you watch someone like Forrest you will see the Gatti of MMA.
If you watch B.J Penn you will see great skills in that match the likes of Floyd Mayweather in boxing.
This is the most annoying topic around but no one can stop talking about it inc myself.
Or maybe that level just isn't that high. I take that back there are MMA fighters that, in their respective arts, are as good as the best boxers in the world. That being said you STILL don't see any 9-4 guys beating a top fighter.

seriously... these mma nutthuggers, boy let me tell ya.
"They don't know.... Who we be...."
I actually enjoyed watching MMA grow what it is today.
But if these little kids think that boxing is easy...
They never got a good ass whoopin before.
I don't think that MMA fans think that boxing isn't tough. At least not the majority. One of MMA's most key marketing points is that it is safer and less hazardous than boxing, and most MMA fans would have heard this argument.

I mean really who gives a shit. I don't like NASCAR, it makes no sense to me. So I don't watch it. I'm not going to get angry that some people do watch it... Same thing here. MMA has lost its novelty with me, I find it to be a mix of bad boxing and cheating at greco roman wrestling. So I don't bother watching it. But I wouldn't deny another person's right to watch it, because who cares?

MMA fighters do boxing.

If you compare Floyd style in Boxing against MMA fighters..
Boxing less injuries, less risk
It's like injuries and death, MMA is the cause.

i have had my buds who are into mma, and try to knock boxing spar for 3 minutes, and it is funny as hell how quickly they get respect for the sweet science!
there are right, boxing isnt as tough as MMA. It takes a special kind of man to have another man's balls rubbing on ur face while ur in the floor wrestling lol
