I personally think he would do well if he learns how to defend take downs. I think he by far and away has the upper hand with striking other than kicks. And he doesn't compare to other boxers who have entered mma cuz he is smarter than them and he has superior athletic ability. But if he does get taken down, he would most certainly lose in no time.
I dont think he has much of a chance in MMA, I'd imagine they'd hand select one MMA professional who matches up well against Mayweather but once Mayweather faces someone who is actually a challenge, he would probably be tapping in less than 2 minutes. I dont think that even with a year of training, Mayweather could hang with most of the MMA who know various forms of martial arts. Not saying Mayweather is a great talent because he obviously is but I believe Mayweather should stay in his sport and not enter another world especially if he's worry about his health.
Your point is moot, boxers cannot crossover from boxing to MMA as easily as you say. The fight most of the time end up on the floor and Mayweather needs training not for defense from takedowns but he needs to learn how to make someone submit and take another down. The necassary training to fight at the high level in MMA is quite a bit. Mayweather will need to learn a whole new set of skills that defy his boxing training. This will be extremely hard to do as his boxing skills have become motor functions and his boxing training has been "imprinted" into his muscle memory.
Floyd is still reletively young but he needs to learn quite a bit about punching on the ground and kicking. He needs to learn basic takedown techniques and submissive moves. He has the obvious advantage standing and would beat everyone standing unless he gets caught with a kick which he will also need to learn to defend from.
Point is, he has a hell of alot to learn and will need to be 100% dedicated to MMa if he wants limited success with it let alone against a top MMA fighter.
I actually hate MMA fighting but i see the skill set that some have to learn and the amount of stamina they need even if they are just fighting 3 rounds, i still think Boxers take more punishment, hit harder and it is much harder to become a top level boxer than a top level MMA fighter. I also stand by my arguement that boxers need more stamina to fight 12 rounds of boxing than to fight on the floor. Still I repect people like Fedor for training in the various Martial arts that he does.
I think my post hold plenty of valid points...I never said boxers can cross over into MMA easily...I meant to make the point that they at least can cross over into MMA(much easier than a MMA fighter into boxing) where as a MMA fighter can't cross over into boxing(At least any high level boxing). Hence its ridiculous to even compare them..its the similar in asking Mayweather to compete in a wrestling match.
I 100% agree with your points about the boxing techniques that have been imprinted into a boxers memory that have to be changed in order to compete in MMA. Widely known that boxing is pretty much is at the bottom when it comes to crossing into MMA.
Also you're making a biased comment with "just fighting 3 rounds". Remember its 3 rounds at 5 mins a round for non-title fights and 5 rounds at 5 mins for title fights. Yes its still less than 12 rounds of boxing in time. Actually Dana White has just stated he wants to have it changed to 5 rounds at 5 mins for non-title fights and 7 rounds at 5 mins for title fights. Problem is athletic commissions have to approve that.
I don't know if this has been posted, go to youtube and type in "al bundy's take on mma" the mma talk starts at about 1:35. I think he makes some awesome points about boxing and mma.
I couldn't agree with more Floyd would get shattered in MMA because he's a back-up and counter type fighter but, in MMA if he tries to pull that he would get put on his A** real quick then once he's on the mat BALL GAME the ref steps in to stop the fight who ever by TKO
No, hell no, no in multiple languages - no.
The "standup" game in MMA is vastly, vastly different from boxing. The addition of a legal clinch, 6 more striking points, longer rounds, the ability to use the ring, dozens of martial styles, and the inevitable ground game means that Money May would get clobbered. He's a great boxer, he's not a great martial artist.
He's totally foolish to even consider the MMA scene unless he wants to super hype it and fight a complete and total nobody. .... which would make him a bitch.
u ppl gotta stop talking abt mma....who the fuck wants to watch 2 half naked guys dry humping each other on the ground?
mma bitches wish they could make as much money as boxers....so why the fuck would a boxer go into mma... besides, a bbc study says that boxing is the most difficult sport in the world...number 2 was hockey, number 3 i think was basketball...mma came in at 6 i think
That has to be bullshit what about golf?
I doubt we will see a big name boxer in his prime enter MMA, the money is very poor, a top name boxer can make much, much more boxing than trying MMA. What is more likely to happen is a big boxing promoter will relise they can get the top MMA fighters to box the top boxers because the MMA guy would make much more money boxing than they do fighting MMA. And it would probably be a huge sell on PPV. It is win/win, the MMA guy finally makes some real money, a top ten boxer would make good money and get an easy bout, the promoter would make a killing. Imagine 'Rampage' boxing a top ten boxer. And Liddell also. They would get killed, but it would draw a huge crowd, boxing fans and MMA fans. I actually wish a top promoter would put it together.
Pointless really. A man like Lidell would get taken out within the 1st round. The skill level of top boxers is just much to high, I would just want to see it for the sake of watching the hopes of MMA fans dying as their favourite fighter was taken out by a single punch within the 1st minute. I wouldn't watch Mayweather fight in MMA just because I know against a ELITE level MMA fighter he would get mauled.
Why is that funny? I never understand that logic coming from people...doesn't even make sense
Think about what MMA is....its essentially the sport of fighting...its the center point...all styles allowed. MMA evolved because of early "no rules" fighting tournaments(UFC 1, 2 Etc...) involving guys coming from backgrounds in Brazilian jiujitsu, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, karate, kung fu...etc..
Asking a MMA fighter to crossover to boxing is essentially asking a wrestler...jiujitsu guy to compete in boxing. Thats retarted...its like having Lennox Lewis take on Randy Couture in a pure wrestling match. He would get mauled. Just like it would be retarted to have Randy Couture fight Lennox Lewis in a boxing match....Couture would get killed.
Theres a reason why boxers can cross over into MMA and why MMA fighters can't cross over into boxing. Its the same reason why MMA fighters can't cross over into another disciplines like Karate. You can't ask Randy Couture to compete in Karate, it doesn't make any sense...he would get killed in a high level Karate tournament. BUT you can have a guy who is a black belt in karate like Lyoto Machida compete in MMA(Top 10 LWH).

LMAO at people voting yes. Remove the testicles dammit!
Id love to see him stick that elbow out at an experienced MMA practicioner!
CAN YOU SAY FREE LEAPING-MID-AIR ARM BAR?????

Thats a ridiculous idea that would never happen.
I'm curious what state athletic commission is going to approve Rampage or Liddell to box a top ten boxer without a single professional boxing fight.
Funny how MMA fighters always want boxers to crossover to their sport, never the other way around.
Why is that funny? I never understand that logic coming from people...doesn't even make sense

He can be, every guy with a little better stand-up skills can be a real good MMA fight if he puts money and time in take down and submission defense training.
Because there aren't many guys that can throw punches.
But Floyd needs years of work to get that level of submission defense, otherwise he will get mauled by guys like Urijah Faber.
Also, it depends if his body can hold up.
