I like Vitali's heart and chin but in fairness despite his hatred of Vitali, Thread Stealer is making some valid points.
Vitali isn't really a one punch powerful demon. Lewis, who has at times been cautious with big punchers, sat there and traded with Vitali for whole rounds. I mean Rahman floored him and so did McCall with one shot, and Lewis stood right in front of Vitali duking it out with him and Lewis never went down. Makes you wonder about Vitali's power. I don't think ko % is a terribly good indicator of power.
Sanders who was floored by Rahman and Nate Tubbs never went down against Klitschko. He got beat sure, but it was an accumulation of punches that did it not one specific punch.
Vitali's numerous injuries were annoying and seemed to hold up the division for a while. The idea of making him some super interim champion after being inactive pissed me off. Like he could just go to the front of the line.
Vitali did have a thudding jab and more often than not, came to fight and he used his height and unorthodox style very well. In short, he was a winner who knew how to get the job done but let's not overate him.
Vitali was a good fighter, let's not put him on the level of the greats.

Very good Post, Vitali is average at best but comparing him to the greats if outlandish. Many here are probably in their teens and did not have a chance to live through some of boxings golden era's
Vitali was cut by a punch so it was a legitimate cut stoppage.
The cut.
Lots of good fighters were bleeders and lost fights because of them.
Quarry lost the Frazier & Ali fights because of cuts, Wepner lost most of his matches due to bleeding (not that he was good), Cooper lost the Ali fights because of bleeding and Marciano was cut many times and he was almost stopped against Charles.
That punch landed FOUR seconds before a drop of blood could be seen and when they clinch two seconds later you can clearly see that there is no cut. In the clinch Lewis's head hits Vitali's eye right where the cut is.
Vitali was an amazing talent. Lewis was wise to force Vitali to take the fight on a weeks notice even though Vitali was his mandatory. Then after getting lucky from a cut that was caused by a clash of heads in a fight he was losing (Lewis would have lost a UD had the referee properly called the clash of heads) he wisely avoided a rematch and getting properly KTFO by Vitali.nonsense, the video evidence clearly shows the cuts were caused by punches.
Lewis didnt force him to fight on short notice, they both fought on 2 weeks notice after Lewis was to face Johnson and vitali was to fight on that undercard. Vitali was in shape, Lewis wasnt. Vitali said that he had trained for Lewis for the last 2 years.
too bad for those cuts in the Lewis fights... The true outcome of that fight will never be known.
too bad for his kick boxing career .. he could have been a much better boxer if it wasn't for the injuries..
So your saying that the outcome of him hetting stopped on cuts had nothing to do with Lewis hitting him in the face and causing the 2 cuts over his eye, the cut below his eye and the cuts in his lips!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Vitali video I found, really good. He was handing out some ass whoopins.

Something in your head has to be fucked up. There's no way a normal person can dislike a professional athelete this much w/o really having an excuse as to why. Ok fact, he "Quit" against Crisp Turd. Ok fact, he lost to lennox on cuts. Big Deal. Do you have the balls to get in the ring and do what VK has done? Anyone that hates a boxer or doesn't appreciate anything about them at least to a certain degree is an idiot.
I dont like Mayweather, I think he's a runner. I think he cherry picks his fights. But do I respect him and do I absolutely KNOW he's the best in the world w/o question? Abso-fuckin-lutely.
You cant sit there and say his KO% doesn't mean anything, or his punching power isn't worth notice, or his Chin is well known and has been tested. You are a complete waste to anyone and everyone that comes here to seek knowledge. I certainly do not like to read the Diarreaha that comes from your mouth and i'm sure i'll get a few applauds for this Reply.

That's a good way to put it.

Good, well-thought out post.
However, it does not change facts about how Quitali's fanboys overrate Quitali's achievements and resume. Why must they talk about the "what ifs"?
I hope you have a good day and a nice 2008.
This really doesn't matter all that much.
would have, could have, should have.
i like to live in the land of reality, not the land of "what might have been".
What happened is that Quitali lost to Byrd because he quit.
What happened is that Brittley lost to an old, undertrained, inactive for a year Lewis.
What happened is that Quitali defeated a whopping total of 3 Ring-ranked top 10 guys in his career, all of whom were fat, old, or both.
What happened is that Quitali had to be forced by the WBC to fight his mandatory.
What happened is that Quitali held up the progress of the heavyweight division with his diva-esque demands, and ended up getting injured (again) anyway.
But he did beat Danny Williams.

Highest KO% in HW history, never knocked down, punches like a frieght train, is fast, dextrous and has stacks of stamina. Only a fool could really argue against Vitali's dominance.
You can't moan about the 'loss' vs Byrd either because of how easily he dominated the 10 rounds of that fight. Quit or not, you all know he was cruising to victory.
Lewis would have a career high payday to rematch him and retired instead - speaks volumes.

This is the "monster" Quitali when it came to his mandatory.

How do you retire someone when you lost against him?
because lummox didn't want to fight anymore, especially after that tough fight with brittley. his lack of desire for the sport was showing when he showed up yet again undertrained for a title defense. you would think losing to hasim rahman would make him learn his lesson, but no...
poor shitali and his fanboys. quitali gets the oldest, most inactive, heaviest lewis ever in the ring and he still loses. even rahman could beat an out-of-shape lewis.
but quitali did beat danny williams.:D
Why won't people just see Lewis-Klitschko as the great fight that it was?
It was probably the best heavyweight fight we've had since the Tua-Ibeabuchi fight and that was like 10 years ago.
When I watch that fight I see Vitali proving himself as a legit fighter against an aging all-time great heavyweight Lennox Lewis who could finally retire with dignity after facing one of his greatest challengers, getting beat until pulling it out in the end.
How do you retire someone when you lost against him?
Vitali may have lost the fight on paper, but he won the event and the crowd...pretty much all the 20,000 fans cheered and gave Vitali a standing ovation after the fight and they Boo'ed Lewis. Vitali was whooping Lewis' ass with 1 EYE and he was winning 58-56 on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage. Vitali showed incredible heart and courage in that fight.
Lennox Lewis cowardly turned down a shitload of money for a rematch because he is scared to death of Vitali and he knew he would get KO'd in the rematch. VITALI RETIRED LEWIS
