I have to say i was thrilled to find out from a friends that the mayweather hatton fights was playing down the road, saved me 60 bucks i didnt really feel like spending. plus it was 3 dollar anythings so for 60 bucks i could have easily put myself into a coma... but anyhow i digress..
i live in ypsilanti michigan, i would have to say that it is pretty racially diverse area. lots of blacks, whites, muslims asians live in the area as there as Eastern Michigan and the University of Michigan within 5 miles..
How many of you walked into a shit talkin race war when you went out to the bar??
I mean seriously, the average asshole knows nothing about boxing and yet there were about 150 brothers up there who were proclaiming up and down to be direct relatives of the greatest fighter who ever lived. I had all kinds of jackasses harassing me for rooting for Ricky Hatton.. i assume cause they figured im a dumbass who knows nothing about fighting who was rooting for a whitey for shits and giggles...
it wouldve really angered me but the guy who was harassing me and my buddy the most had to have been the most hilarious looking character to ever walk the earth.
Dressed head to toe in age old FUBU gear this dude had two crazy eyeballs that wandered all the way to the edges of his sockets. It was such a trip to have some guy yelling "yeah!!? WHAT>?? YEAH.. TOldya'll YEAH WHAT!!" and you know hes talking to you but his eyes are pointing out in opposite directions. For those of you who have seen Mr. Deeds. he made steve buschemis eyes look normal by comparison.
Even when Hatton was knocked out by disappointment was overcome by laughter at the site of this guy. God Bless his crazy eyes.
Anyway, im just curious for those of you who went out to see it..
Was the crowd divided almost 100 percent by race where you went??
Were people talking unnecessary shit when simple rooting would have done??
Were people singing Hatton Wonderland in your bar??
what was your experience?
I didnt jump up and down...I wrote that i wasnt beligerant.. and I grew up with these people. Its not like I was just some dude they pulled off the corner.
I wasnt talking about you in particular, but you did mention they tried to pick fights with you. Don't know if that was the relatives, or they were some crazy a-holes.
I dont think it has so much to do with Race, but If I order a PPV and my favorite fighter is taking a beating, and some guy is Jumping up and down at my house Especially if I dont know the guy, I would take it as disrespect.
I would probably tell that fucker to chill out or leave, sometimes your a fan of a fighter for many years, you dont want somebody cheering for someone you care about getting his ass kicked.(Yes I care for the well being of all fighters, especially my favorite fighters)

I watched at home but I've seen this before. My BWW's had a black bartender who I think had never watched a boxing match before Pavlik-Taylor. I didn't want it to be racial but in rd. 2 he said "this whiteboy don't have a chance." OK buddy now you've classed me. But as a fan I kind of knew Pavlik was coming back. Taylor's too undisciplined. After the KO I offered to do the same to him in the parking lot.
I don't like putting my pride in someone else's hands. I only trust myself. Next time maybe Taylor knocks Pavlik out, but I take the bartender every time.
Funny story. That shit seems to happen all the time. The guy who's never watched a match in his life all of a sudden becomes an expert.
The ones to really get riled up are the Hispanics...cause they looooooooooooooooooooooove their boxing and thier boxers. I grew up in a hispanic area of the country. Watching hispanic fights...with hispanic friends..in Mexico sometimes...we would cut school and go down to Tijuana to watch the fights.
I grew up in Chula Vista, Ca. As in 5 miles from Mexico hispanic. Everytime any of the big Hispanic fighters were having a bout on T.V. the entire street would errupt with cheers from the peoples houses. Mexicans screaming....cheering...at the end of the fights if their boy won they would sometimes come out in the front yard and let a few off in the air.
I never went for the Mexican growing up....just to piss em off...oh it did too..man they would get hot as hell. Want to fight ME...I wasnt beligerant...I just didnt go for the latin guy...sue me
I remember one time I was back home when Chavez fought Tszyu. A friend of mine invited me over they were having this little fight party and I wasnt going for Chavez...I wanted Tszyu to win and ofcourse I was the ONLY person in the house going for him......Chavez got knocked the fuck out and I got told to leave for cheering..haha!!!
Nobody likes the white boy cheering against their race....they will say...."oh race doesnt matter..oh its the sport..man against man" but when they get knocked the fuck out by the white boy......yeah..its race.
I love it...i think it is soo funny how people get so worked up over it.

when whitaker fought chavez, i watched it at a friends house with a friend, his whole family was at his house, all i heard in spanish were disparging remarks about blacks, and then, my friends uncle thinking i didint understand spanish asked my friend if i was going for the "monkey running around the ring", i told him "yes".
his mom angered, promptly kicked his uncle out of the house and apologized to me.
it also happened when i saw chavez fight camacho, again i watched it at a friends house, naturally i was going for camacho since he was puerto rican and i basically got the same treatment.
I watched the fight in a room full of black people and myself and my other homie were the only ones going for mayweather... It was REAL REAL ugly in there too, but that is partly because they don't know sh*t about boxing... along with the ability the media has to form peoples opinions for them...
