Nor Come forward pressure fighters..
I think that has been proven by now.. SO sending in Cotto is just going to be more of the same..
It's going to take someone special.. Someone as fast.. someone as smart.. and someone as Accurate... With some serious POP..
Zab Judah could have been THAT man.. but he is a mental midget.. Is there anyone out there with Zab's Skill set.. and some mental Fortitude??
I dont think so...
Work rate and height haven't worked in the past... Is Paul Williams special???
You're right, workrate or height alone haven't worked in the past. But workrate with height, ala, Paul Williams, Mayweather has never faced before.
Someone like Sugar Ray Leonard. Speed, stamina, power, smarts, defense. Or a fighter like Duran who is a brawler with boxing skills and a great chin.
No Cotto is not either. He would lose too. Only person beating Floyd right now is himself.
forrest is a good name, and he is accurate, but his speed has diminished and with as great as he was, floyd is too dynamic a fighter for vernon, and i have always wanted to see these two clash it out, this was my dream match when i went to my gym to train, i promoted this matchup a lot, it made my dad and uncles so mad. they use to say, "damn kid, you want to be a champion or a promoter, because you sure do mulittask here, let's fucking train boy." i used to tell them to kiss my ass, which was a mistake, because they worked me to death, but hell, at least i'm nice as shit now, and smart as ever in that ring, anyway, vernon imo would be overwhlemed with floyd's speed, and vernon would have to outmuscle floyd because he's still accurate and that's crucial in beating floyd, and nobody has showed this yet against him. vernon could, but floyd is too fast for him and too dynamic at this point in vernon's career.
Yeah Vernon might be past his chance... if he ever had one..
Yeah ...I think Forrest is the best name I have heard so far... He has the accuracy and POP.. but does he have the defence and the speed anymore???forrest is a good name, and he is accurate, but his speed has diminished and with as great as he was, floyd is too dynamic a fighter for vernon, and i have always wanted to see these two clash it out, this was my dream match when i went to my gym to train, i promoted this matchup a lot, it made my dad and uncles so mad. they use to say, "damn kid, you want to be a champion or a promoter, because you sure do mulittask here, let's fucking train boy." i used to tell them to kiss my ass, which was a mistake, because they worked me to death, but hell, at least i'm nice as shit now, and smart as ever in that ring, anyway, vernon imo would be overwhlemed with floyd's speed, and vernon would have to outmuscle floyd because he's still accurate and that's crucial in beating floyd, and nobody has showed this yet against him. vernon could, but floyd is too fast for him and too dynamic at this point in vernon's career.
cotto will never outbox floyd. he would have to be very accurate and his timing would have to be emaculanton the defensive end to even compete with floyd added with his pressure and relentless come forward approach, and i do not believe he is capable of this but we would have to see. paul williams would be the toughest fight out there for floyd but floyd would eat him up with timing and great body placement, but the keyword is timing, because floyd's timing added with his speed and accuracy is just in a league of it's own. paul williams leaves his body open when he throws his punches the way he does. i don't give a shit hw much he throws an dhow long his reach is, when he's fighting a complete mental fighter named floyd mayweather jr, that shit won't win him a fight with floyd, bot at all. paul williams would tire out against floyd and be suseptable to body shots and we all know how accurate floyd is to the body and how he breaks anybody down including cotto and williams. williams has a high workrate but his size advantage don't mean shit, his reach advantage don't mean shit when he's missing many of his punches and floyd is timing him which he would have to do, and he does this well. paul williams faints well and fights good at angles but he is still too green imo, because when he does this he gives up his height and reach and i've watched several of his fights and seen this. paul williams would have to slap his jab at floyd to land it a lot because when paul doesn't leave his fist closed when he throws punches, he lands them a lot, which he did against tony. remember floyd's best punch imo is his left hook, and he knows how to time it well against fighters who give up their height and aren't pressure fighers, like he did against corrales, even though that was ages ago, floyd would train like he did against chico imo, but against williams who throws so many punches but isn't a sharp puncher like floyd, he may have to make many adjustments to, so yes, paul would have the best chance against floyd, and no, i will not change my pick like many others on here do, first they say shane, then cotto, then williams, no shane, no cotto, williams has the best chance, but he is still too green. he would have to prove to me otherwise.
williams throws punches a lot but he also wastes a lot of them, and you should know by now, that when you fight floyd, it doesn't matter how many punches you throw, if they aren't landing enough, they won't be enough to get you the win. the only other chance paul has is to time floyd very well and hope keep him off of him with his jab enough to frustrate floyd an dtake him off of his game, which is damn near impossible to do, especially if your stamina is subpar, and paul hasn't gone 12 rounds for some time now, minus the margarito fight at a tempo and pace that floyd goes. because when floyd turns it up in the later rounds you better be mentally prepared to sustain what he's going to do, because the man don't get tired, he can go for ages, and paul williams was caught in the later rounds by tony who is much slower than floyd, and paul showed stamina problems like a motherfucker in that fight, seeing how tony started to time him well and go to his body well. so, imagine what floyd would do, and i know paul would train different for floyd, and i'm not basing my who argument off of his last performance, but against floyd, your physical attributes will not get the job done by themselves, you have to be mentally stable with advanced thinking to beat floyd, because that's how he beats you, he outhinks you at your own game or at his game, which is why he makes adjustments the way he does. for those, who believe that paul would dust the floor with floyd, you're only adding to floyd's magic, because he is a methodical(ther goes that word again) and he paces the fight on his terms, and it's paul's job to disrupt that pace convincingly for 12 rounds in order to beat floyd, his workrate has to be great, he cannot leave his body open, because floyd willattack his body and slow his punch output down, trust me, added to the fact that he has to time floyd very well with his jab and land it whether in a slapping punch or full punch becuse if he doesn't he will not land many punches on mr. mayweather at all, i don't care how long his reach is. floyd is just too good a fighter for any fighter to depend on their physical attributes to beat him, i promise all of you guys and gals on here, that will not work. he's too complex for it.
Winky Wright would batter him.
Vernon Forrest would batter him.
But both of these guys at 154.
Yeah ...I think Forrest is the best name I have heard so far... He has the accuracy and POP.. but does he have the defence and the speed anymore???
Paul Williams could, he is to big and his reach is to much for Floyd. He also has nice speed.
Floyd is an amazing fighter, but he has shown weakness. He is not unbeatable.
He should have lost to Castillo. Castillo landed more punches, he landed more power punches and he had a higher connect percentage. The only reason Floyd is undefeated right now is because the judges are idiots. You can't argue with compubox numbers.
or without the ref breaking it up in the crucial rounds.
Floyd showed he was nothing special on Saturday. Ref gifted the fight to him.
agreed.. confidence is at an all time high in the early rounds and he just gifted the fight to Floyd.
The only fighters who can beat him are the younger guns like Cotto and Paul Williams who have the youth and ambition to go out there and give it everything. Mayweather won't fight the young guys though, it just doesn't make enough sense for him.
In all fairness, most fighters are like that. Look at what happened to Hopkins against Taylor. Taylor's nothing special but he got the job done.
Williams height won't matter because he doesn't use it to his advantage also Williams has a lazy jab which would allow PBF to slip the jab easy and be on the inside. I don't think Williams is good enough right now or will be within the next year to beat PBF unless he improves vastly next year.
watch margarito bout??? :puppy_dog
I agree with most that it's going to take someone much bigger or taller/longer reach. I think Paul Williams like most of these guys are saying has the best chance. I would LOVE to see that fight more than any I can think of, probably since I was drooling over Castillo-Corrales I and we all know how that turned out
Another pointless thread...no offense to the person that posted it. But I mean come on..this is getting old. So many people were the "ones" to beat him, and all 39 have the same L on their records. Let the man ride off into the sunset...unless he WANTS to come back. But he been champ for 10 years already, aint lost since 96...the way these people hate on Floyd on here, he can be champ for 20 years and still be undefeated and they will still say, "well, he still needs to fight such and such,..." It's getting old people.
dog... what jab does he possess to be called a boxer?(not onetime mosely.. which was great though) what foot movement does he display?
And head movement? slipping?
Cotto is great... but boxers have a tendency to do those 4 things decently well...
I love cotto he's a great guy./.. but he isnt a boxer man.. just ask yourself which one of those things he does well?
It actually shows how good he is(or how much power).. with virtually none of those he has went undefetaed and beatin the likes of mosely and judah... Cotto is one of a kind.
EDIT:Hey man if you can prove me wrong i will glady take my statement back.
well first off, thank you for taking so kindly to the post - show's you're a different degree of poster.
2ndly - cotto's footwork, the man is like water in there, fluid movement all the time, i mean yeah, he's not as fast as a hatton on the feet - but do you really wanna be? show me a time where cotto is off balance (when not getting tagged) and i'll show you that hatton won on saturday night - or if you CAN - then that renders me an idiot.
head movement, this is what worries me the most - i feel that cotto and his team would do a lot to negate that right hand - or try to sustain on his feet like he did against mosleys right hands, i think he caught about 30 flush r hands from mosley - an attribute to cotto's chin.
cotto is a boxer-puncher, boxer's fight going backwards, cotto does this, boxers use the jab and combination punching (yes, maybe sporadically due to cimcumstances cotto hasn't been doing this as much) and cotto does this, boxers use their feet (this is the biggest surprising knock against cotto) and my guy, migs, uses his feet top 5 in the game, always in position.
youtube migs, man, you'll see.
I dont know what fight you were watching but Corrales threw maybe 10 punches that entire night. And yes accuracy is a must if you're putting power on the punches, but if you're just flicking them out you dont need it, they will hit because of the speed.
Where did Coralles' performance come into the question???... You asked me if he ever fought anyone comparible to Williams's size and workrate..
Coralles was 6 feet tall... And Fought at a very busy pace...

dude, don't be so dense. look at the vic sosa fight, and pretty much anything before that and tell me miguel is no boxer.
get the fukk outta here. :puppy_dog
