Benny,
Any comments?
Not really, apart from what I wrote above. I never really got into the Eagles although I think my dad listened to them a bit. Either way, they are also dreadful lyrics. No form of creative expression is free of terrible work. I think some, in my opinion, just attract more bad work or less talent.
Why are you acting ignorant (hence, I don't think you are). That's a scapegoat. Of course most mainstream rap isn't an art because it isn't controlled by ARTISTS. The essence of hip hop comes from mainly Jamaican dance music and disco where inner city artists and DJs threw parties by chanting over looped samples. It evolved into a culture that included Graffiti writing, break dancing, emceeing, and the other elements. The earliest hip hop artists were poets. I suggest you dig up some KRS One and Rakim, or listen to vintage Nas, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and the related. Please don't be ignorant and cast a blanket over an entire sub-culture. It is very diverse with genres within the genre and nit picking mainstream radio does no good to prove your point.
Art, in general, isn't controlled by artists anymore. Like everything else it is now seen as a simple commodity for certain groups to exploit and get money out of. I'm not talking about Hip-Hop as such. Purely mainstream rap like 50 cent and Eminem etc. The roots of these styles are genuine art and comes from a need of expression, generally how most art comes into existence. The early Hip-Hop artists were brilliant and yes, I have listened to much of what you suggested.
I am not being ignorant nor am I casting an umbrella term of the whole sub-culture, hence, the reason I used the word 'mainstream' rap.
Those gangster rap lyrics? They were written by this guy:
http://www.biocrawler.com/w/images/8/86/Joewalsh.jpg
Joe Walsh. The song is called "Life's Been Good" and it was on an album called "But Seriously Folks" in 1978.
Joe Walsh was in that gangster rap group called "The Eagles".
:owned:
I was commenting as much on the general lyrics of rap songs as on that song you put up. The Eagles writing a bad tune (lyric wise) doesn't change the fact.
Yes, I guess I was ... :owned:
:ugh:
LOL people act like they are shocked. The only thing that is shocking to me is that floyd met with Barack Obama..... Obama should be dqed from the primary for that single reason.
Were Judah and Baldomir the best Welterweights? If so where do they rank all-time?
I'm not concerned with where they rank all time, I only know that Zab was THE top welter weight and Baldy beat him. Floyd proceeded to beat both of them. Where do you rank someone like a Margarito, all time?
Rap (mainstream) is the saddest form of music/creative art to come out of America since...well...ever!
America has produced some of the most magical and talented artists in every field and this ... urgh ... I don't know what to say. The lyrics are just awful and sound like they were written by a try-hard thirteen year old wannabe homie.
Man, I wish jazz was still the main art form in mainstream America. Not all this pimpin' shizzle fizzle hoe *****z shite. It's embarrassing. Even more so when done by a rich fighter living it up with millions talking about his 'block' and 'hustlin' with my *****z'.
I've often wondered if most of the top guys in mainstream rap are serious. I mean, they can't be...can they? Are they that deluded to think what they say and act like is actually hip?
Bring back Miles, Parker and Coltrane.

Yes............ I'm not sure what else to call the undisputed champ and his conqueror.

I understand the points you and Dios both are making and it brings up a legitimate debate. I'm definitely not the one to point the finger at rap music as it's a double standard to do so but I am critical of those artists who promote violence simply because it's what sells. These conglomerate labels give the ultimatum that either you rap this way or we won't put out your record, so it's two-fold as well.
That's what sells. It's the 17-23 age that most of the new rappers are trying to attract. They want to put out that Car music that the young cats can bump to in their brand new system.
They don't wanna listen to that soft bubble gum rap.

Listening to some of the escapades Charlie Parker got up to would your eyes water. Getting a hooker to give him head whilst scoffing a bucket of chicken in the back of a cab is a story that needs to be told.
Im not white.....
I don't care, you aren't a thug either.
Who are we to say whats necessary..
Rational human beings who don't condone intra-ethnic genocide. Please don't attack me like I don't have Floyd's back every day on here, I'm just being honest.
Floyd says stuff like that to appeal to people IN THE HOOD..."street cred"
Street cred is earned.
No shit he isnt about to go sell drugs...neither is jay-z whos worth 600 million dollars...
Which is why I don't listen to Jay-Z
Jesus...cmon you coo and all but your of base on this one...
Why don't we just agree to disagree then, because obviously I can't convince you that selling drugs is wrong, so whatever.
Thank god we dont see the results of that. I on the other hand have had friends who have been murdered in the ghetto of Baltimore because they were trying to copycat the thug lifestyle. Its a real tragedy, I dont want to say that it is ONLY the music and stuff that CAUSES it, because its a combination of things, but its kind of like rap music was originally an organic product of the ghetto but now almost serves as a reinforcer of it.

B-more:
Do you think Arnold Schwarzenegger was promoting violence against law enforcement officers when he shot up that police station?

Wait... let me get this straight:
You are saying that a creative art form is fake?? Are you saying that Biggie didn't ACTUALLY rob a Knicks player of $100,000 after boning his girlfriend??
That is shocking.
*Dios softly weeps*
I have a mansion
Forget the price
Ain't never been there
They tell me it's nice
I live in hotels
Tear out the walls
I have accountants
Pay for it all
They say I'm crazy but I have a good time
I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime
Life's been good to me so far
My Maserati
Does one eighty-five
I lost my license
Now I don't drive
I have a limo
Ride in the back
I lock the doors
In case I'm attacked
I'm making records
My fans they can't wait
They write me letters
Tell me I'm great
So I got me an office
Gold records on the wall
ust leave a message
Maybe I'll call
Lucky I'm sane after all I've been through
(Everybody sing) I'm cool (He's cool)
I can't complain but sometimes I still do
Life's been good to me so far
I go to parties
Sometimes until four
It's hard to leave
When you can't find the door
It's tough to handle
This fortune and fame
Everybody's so different
I haven't changed

Belts and titles aside were Zab Judah and Carlos Baldomir really what you would consider "top" welterweights?
Yes............ I'm not sure what else to call the undisputed champ and his conqueror.
