Who you guys picking for fighter of the year 2007?
At the minute for me it is probably Kelly Pavlik, with Miguel Cotto a very close second. The only way I think I might change my mind is if Hatton knocks Floyd out on saturday but I doubt that will happen.
Who's your pick??
I'm hoping Pavlik, but Cotto next year if he fights Mayweather. It's probably gonna be Calzaghe though, he's been getting a lot of props after defeating Kessler. I agree that if Hatton pulls an upset he'll be fighter of the year (again)
If Floyd wins on saturday it is definitly him, if Hatton wins he makes a great case and will be competing with Pavlik.
if floyd wins i don't think he'll win because unless he dominates Hatton he hasn't had a crowd pleasing style recently. I think they'll pick a "new" big fighter like cotto, Pavlik or Diaz or fighters that wouldn't have been considered last year.

If Floyd Mayweather beats Hatton.. it's gotta be him... The biggest fights of the year... and he wins them Both??... it's no contest
seriously im a big fan of calzaghe and i think unless hatton beats floyd, he has the best win of the year in 2007, however, he lacks another good win in the year, i dont think taylor or miranda were nearly as good as kessler but taylor is much more accomplished and miranda was a solid contender, pavlik came in as the underdog in both and KO'ed them....that should get him the edge over clazaghe, and hatton has a very difficut fight ahead, so kelly should be the favorite....
cotto isnt even in the equation even though im a fan as well, a fight he won in dominating fashion over judah(l3 losses in his last 4 and 1 year inactivity), and a close fight with a post-prime shane mosley isnt as immpressive...
I like the way you worded your statement to sway people into your line of thinking. Pavlik did not knock out Miranda or Taylor, he scored a TKO, which is the same thing Calzaghe did to Manfredo, yet you have cleverly hidden that fact in a pathetic attempt to influence people.
Kessler would have murdered Miranda, Taylor and Pavlik. Pavlik got hurt a couple of times in the Miranda fight, and then probably should have been stopped in the Taylor fight. Taylor went down and the ref waved it off, but Pavlik went down and got back up and danced round the ring for 2 minutes cos he couldnt stand still, the phrase "punch drunk" comes to mind. Pavlik also has very little boxing skills, just a mediocre jab and a dynamite right hand. Calzaghe has beaten a very dangerous live opponent this year, as well as proving that his chin is rock solid, Pavlik cannot say that.
That said, I wouldnt give fighter of the year to either of them, it simply has to go to The Baby Bull Juan Diaz. How many fighters out there have unified their title twice in one year, against proven opposition?
He outclassed both, Pavlik on the score cards against Taylor was about the same level (on mine anyway) calzaghe was miles ahead it ain't about the KO's in fighter of the year in fight of the year it is but calzaghe should get it. If Hatton Ko's mayweather then i think he should get it. Cotto, Diaz are favourites as well. I never really held Miranda in high regard anyway although i do want to see him fight Kessler who i think would destroy him with his sharp punching and command of the centre of the ring. I don't see kessler going backward.
Edit: o shit quoted the wrong guy.
Calzaghe so far, simply because he took on a live and very dangerous champion in Kessler and tidied up the SMW division all at 35 years of age.
Hatton could eclipse this though.
chelsea is gonna win the title this year
So...... you're saying it's Calzaghe/Pavlik..
I dunno actually. The nearer it gets, the more I think Hatton could make this close. He's the best prepared and conditioned he's ever been and has even held his weight between fights, for the first time ever really. I'd still edge towards Mayweather but I think Hatton might surprise quite a few people.
come on, dawson??o h yeah he beat epifanio mendoza and chuy ruiz!!!!
:ugh:
im a fan of his, but come on....
i picked him because he won the title and defended it twice and thats all in one year. thats pretty impressive if you ask me. :boxing:
Boxer of the year - Calzaghe
"Rookie" (at World level) - Pavlik
Hatton will take it if he takes Mayweather though.
