Seriously, i used to love this guy. And i still love his calls for the giants games on the radio.
But he REALLY needs to get more into the fights.
I'm watching Julio Diaz vs Juan Diaz right now, and these two guys were getting into some VICIOUS exchanges in the 3rd round, and ended the 3rd round with literally 30 seconds of non-stop punching!!!
But Bob Papa didnt even say anything!!!!! He just waited until after the round and said something like "this is a good one"
????
And also, for Augustus-Ward, he was really not into that fight too. Even though the guy clearly loves boxing, only a blind guy wouldnt be screaming and yelling during that fight. Atlas was even screaming, and he's usually cool calm and collect.
Maybe because it was two guys with little power going full out with each other, each punch with the effect as if a paper ball hit. Eventually Julio wore out, but eh. When I saw it the second time it didn't seem as exciting. Anyone agree?
They should get the Col he can make anything exciting.
Agreed. Bob Sheirdan made parts of Spinks vs Mayorga exciting. If doesn't say something then...
Though I still like Jim the best, followed by Bob. Joe Tessitore comes in 3rd because he normal voice is good for a commentator, but doesn't know how to capitalize on big moments in the fight.
I agree. It's so hard for me to listen to some announcers because they don't call fights with the same emotion as Jim Lampley. Of course Lampley annoys me at times for his deficiencies.
I like Tessitore when he doesn't have his usual color commentator.
Yeah none of the announcers were too excited about Diaz - Diaz. It was a brutal fight but the announcers and old fuck lederman kept calling for J Diaz has to box.
lol they both J Diaz.
But yea, i guess it had some to do with the crowd which was small. But they were really into it, they stood and appluaded at the end of some rounds.
But in Texas that fight would have drawn 6,000 easy, and you would have had that electric crowd and maybe thats what Papa needs
