Oscar was over the hill when he fought Floyd....and yes he still almost beat Floyd. I think that's a valid observation.
All you have to do is look at clips of young Oscar to see the difference. A young Oscar would have whipped Floyd, IMO.
I know, look at Oscar in the first Mosley fight, HUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference then and now.
LOL!!! Do you realize that Pernell was the the best fighter in the world at that point? The BEST. I don't know what more you could say on that note. I mean, even you have to admit that it would have been just a tiny bit criticized if Oscar had chosen to fight Kostya Tzsyu instead of Pernell Whittaker.
This is such a ridiculous argument, and I'm honestly thinking that you have not followed boxing long, because you obviously don't know what the climate of the sport was like at the time these fights happened. Ask anyone else if the thought Pernell was shot at the time.
I think Pernell was over the hill when he fought Oscar...not shot. Difference. Pernell was 33 years old when he fought Oscar and he only fought three more times after that fight.
And, no I don't think Oscar would have been criticised at all for fighting Tszyu, who was kicking in the door at that time. It was the fight to make.
Shit, Oscar could have fought Tszyu and then gone up for Whittaker. But, instead he left the division entirely.
edit: Prime Pernell would have beaten Oscar. Not a ridiculous argument at all.
That sure wasn't what a thousand of you cats were saying shortly before the fight, and shortly afterwards. At that point it was 'Oscar is still fresh, he's been looking great.. blah, blah.."
Then after the fight, the robbery allegations started, and people kept saying how good he still looked. But of course in retrospect- he magically becomes that old guy that nobody expected to win in the first place. Lol.. typical shit.

When Oscar let himself be stripped rather than fight Tszyu, Oscar did move up to fight Pernell Whitaker. An old and over the hill Pernell Whitaker. This was a business move pure and simple.

I don;t know man. Oscar can;t even cut the ring off and he was trying to bully Floyd, that was some pathetic exhibition on Oscar's part and he still made it close. Daym!
Oscar was doing everything right up until the point he fadded (like he been doing for the past few years). he was bringing smart pressure and jabbing his way in. how was it a pathetic exibition?
I don't see the logic here.
How do you suppose that?
Definitely, not perhaps.
Julio Cesar Chavez + Miguel Angel Gonzalez >> anybody Tszyu has faced at 140 (even though Tszyu faced Gonzalez later).
He's definitely more healthy, not perhaps. He's even still active.
Irrelevant. De La Hoya is more accomplished overall and fought Floyd at 154.
Still younger.
I do
How would you figure that? I'd say Oscar's left hook beats Tszyu's right hand any day.
Of course Oscar still knocking out opponents at 154 while Tszyu couldn't even hurt Hatton or Vince Philips would argue against that.
Indicated by what, or are you just making a silly claim for the sake of disagreement?
Nonsense. Tszyu loses to JCC and JCC loses to De La Hoya.
Yes, to fight a much much better opponent in Pernell Whitaker.
-----------
Tszyu also beat JCC and Hector Lopez and....well, many others. You missed that.
Tszyu was the first man in 30 years to unify the belts at 140. Oscar cannot make this claim. Tszyu definitely more accomplished at 140. No question.
You may say Oscar's left beats Tszyu's right, but I cannot agree with this at all. Tszyu dominated a division with that right.
Tszyu was one of the best counterpunchers ever in the JrWW division. That's how I can say that.

Nah, you're just saying that cause it was against your boy Floyd, and it was oh so close.
nah the point is, Oscar was not shot and still a great fighter. and once Oscar trains, he has a chance of beating anybody. :boxing: :boxing: :boxing:
Well you can see it as you want to see it. I don't think Tszyu defending 140 his whole career is a discredit to him at all. There is something to say for a fighter that successfully moves up when naturally smaller. But, IMO it discredits a boxer to merely jump up and fight lesser fighters to claim just another of the many belts that are out there.
Oscar may have "transcended" any single weight division. But, the fact is that he never "transcended" Tszyu at 140. Never. Tszyu will go down as one of the great JRWWs. Oscar's not on that list.
Oscar has the greatest resume of any active fighter in the world. So I don't think he was trying to 'jump up and fight lesser fighters'. His resume is leagues better than anything Tzsyu has faced at 140.
And make no mistake- it's ALOT harder to be disadvantaged by weight, and still move up to fight great opposition.
Bigger? Not at 140.
I don't see the logic here.
Better? Not at 140.
How do you suppose that?
Faster? Perhaps.
Definitely, not perhaps.
Fought better comp? Not at 140.
Julio Cesar Chavez + Miguel Angel Gonzalez >> anybody Tszyu has faced at 140 (even though Tszyu faced Gonzalez later).
Healthier? Perhaps.
He's definitely more healthy, not perhaps. He's even still active.
Accomplished? Not at 140.
Irrelevant. De La Hoya is more accomplished overall and fought Floyd at 154.
Younger? Just barely.
Still younger.
Better chin? I don't agree.
I do
Stronger? Not at 140.
How would you figure that? I'd say Oscar's left hook beats Tszyu's right hand any day.
More powerful?.....Tszyu is more powerful.
Of course Oscar still knocking out opponents at 154 while Tszyu couldn't even hurt Hatton or Vince Philips would argue against that.
Better counterpuncher?......Tszyu was better.

Yes, to fight a much much better opponent in Pernell Whitaker.
A JOURNEYMAN WIPED HIS ASS WITH MIKE TYSON
Tyszu didn't lose to hall of famers. he lost to Hatton and Phillips. LOL! Oscar lost to Trinidad, Mosley, Hopkins and Mayweather. all hall of famers. :boxing: :boxing: :boxing:
Which discredits him even further, in a sense. Oscar transcended any single weight division. So narrowing the argument down to simply a 140 comparison is severely limiting the argument for Oscar, compared to what you could say if we were comparing bothe men's careers.

Do I need to pull up any of the six threads where you got owned about KT?
You lost every single poll.
Gotta hop. While I'm gone, Wiley, post a predictable response about Tszyu.
Nite
Typical Dios post. Lie and leave. You'll never get over how owned you've consistently been regarding Kostya Tszyu. Oh well.....nite.
Understand your point. But Tszyu fought at 140 his whole professional career. So when we're talking about Tszyu, we're talking about 140. He owned that division to be blunt about it.

My point is so simple yet the self-proclaimed smartest guy on this forum can't get it. Dominicano, that's you I am referring to.
Ricky's win over Tzsuy was against a prime and elite fighter at the time who was recognized by all media, and he stopped him. Floyd's win over Dlh was against a fighter past his prime, and he split-decisioned him. Wow! Was this so hard to comprehend
Oscar trained his ass off for that fight. he would have been a force to be reckoned with against any fighter that night.
Didn't fight better comp at 140, and was less accomplished? Who gives a fuck? Are you honestly basing this fight comletely on the WEIGHT CLASS?? On who he's fought ONLY at 140? So nothing of his other accomplishments matter, right?

What would Oscar's record have been if he fought Leija, Sharmba and Tackie...like Tszyu did?
Shit I wouldn't know that's why I don't play your fantasy match-ups bullshit. Wasn't Sharmba recognized as the 140 pounder to beat at the time Tzsuy obliviated him in 3?
Tszyu destroyed Sharmba twice.
