I can't deny that I'm not to fond of PBF. The difference is, I don't just blindly hate on him because I have no choice but to recognize his greatness as a fighter.
I also see him and his uncle as two of the most ignorant people I have ever heard talk. All that money doens't wash away the trashy people they are and how they treat others without any reguard.
I never really knew much about Hatton other than he is English and his style of fighting in the ring. Watching 24/7, I see that he is night and day from Mayweather. He seems to be a true family man and cares so much about the people around him and the avg person in his home town.
He said he would never move out of Manchester no matter how much money he makes. I just really like the guy and his attitude, he seems to be a throw back type of a fighter. someone who is humble, hard working but loves to drink and party like an every day person.
I truly believe the reason that Mayweather hasn't reached that superstar status that let's say....DeLaHoya has reached, is because of his arrogance. There's a big difference in being arrogant and just cocky and PBF is definitly arrogant. You can tell in the influence his father has had on him and the wedge that his uncle Roger has become in their relationship.
some may say that Ali was arrogant but he was so much more charasmatic than PBF it isn't even compairable. Ali was playfull in his cockyness and some didn't like it but i think it was more due to the sign of the times than anything else. PBF just doesn't have what Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and DLH had, that star power and admiration form the general public.
I do think PBF will win because he is the best fighter in the world right now but I will be rooting for Hatton, the every day man's man.
Jerry Rice was the best and dedicated his life to being the best on the football field.
Was he a cunt?
So your point is void, Black Jesus. Floyd is the way he is because of the ebonics speaking idiot relatives he grew up with.
jerry rice was kind of a jerk with the media and at times with his teammates, actually.
it was detailed more in the espn sportscentury episode about him, but many nfl fans, especially in no. cal., had already heard the stories.
I get your point and it's a valid one but in reality you missed mine. I don't care what a guy does in his private life, look at Holyfield. He had so many kids out of wed lock but he was always adored by the public because in the ring he was a class act.
You are right, having power or skill corrupts people. To the point where they treat others like shit, I get that, I've been there. I was a bully in school and always grew up fighting and there were very few guys that lagitamitly kicked my ass. Not to mention the fact I was young, had a nice car and was making lots of money. That's small time stuff compaired to what PBF is and I was acting like an asshole..lol.
I was just trying to make the point of what he draws, how he is percieved. Ali's legacy stands on it's own, so does SRL and DLH but it just seems to me that PBF isn't as abig as a star as he should be.
His PR people have tried to put him in dancing with the stars and he himself makes it seems that he is the one that makes the big paydays but that's not the truth. His biggest payday was with DLH and that's why every boxer in the world within 3 weight classes of DLH begs to fight him even now at his age.
I just think PBF should be a household name and he isn't as much as people might think.
Na man, guys like PBF will never be household names, defensive geniuses who dominate, but dont have vicious KO power and dont take some to give some tend not to be household names no matter how nice they are, but i understand youre point man its all good.
you guys have to understand that to get to the level that PBF is at, being a nice humble guy isnt enough, when you have dedicated youre whole life to a sport, when youre out there and everyone just seems like they cant matchup to you, if even on the biggest stages out there, you continue to dominate and win even when the stakes are against you, its hard not to be arrogant.
some of the best musicians and artists were like this also, miles davis was a complete prick, but he was a genius at what he did, and he didint bullshit you .
And dont ever say "well if i was in that position" because none of us are, until you truly dedicate yourself to something so much, and give youre life to it, and you are regarded worldwide as the BEST at what you do in youre field, none of us have any idea of what goes into that kind of feeling, and what it can do to youre mind, knowing youre the very best at what you do hands down.
guys like hatton are nice, and the sport needs that, but there will be other nice guys who come in face first, throwing punches in bunches. But truly dominant fighters who make it looks like 99 percent of the fighters they fight dont even belong in the same ring as them come only once in a generation and mayweather as much as an asshole as he is, is that man right now.

not trying to prove you wrong but what about Roy Jones Jr? He seemed like a real nice guy.
roy was arrogant, but generally known as a decent guy. i respect him as a person as i've heard many stories about him being generous and giving money to g-man's family, the nypd, etc....
that being said, u can't always tell how someone is behind closed doors.

i wonder if that story from the movie collateral was true.

i think one thing you guys have to understand is that there has pretty much when it comes to some of the most skilled boxers ever, all of them are arrogant, and most of them are very unlikeable people, Ray Robinson, Whitaker, Ali were all hated during their reigns and in many instances hated for who they were and what they said. there is alot of Ali revisionism, dude could be vicious when he wanted to be.
yep.
and even some of the more likeable fighters who were known as good guys, like joe louis, had very dark sides to them.

Yeah right... go tell that to Joe Frazier or to his son.
That being said, Floyd is annoying.
and the numerous wives he mistreated.
"hi president marcos, this is my wife (my mistress) veronica", while his real wife watches this conversation on television at home.
or how about malcolm x whom he turned his back on? oh wait, he's dead.
ali= great fighter, flawed human like any other person, with good and bad traits.
WEll floyd mayweather isnt rearly funny like ali was hes more annoying then funny and cheeky.
Ali was jus a funny guy even his opponants had to laugh sometimes at the things he said lool a true showmon aswel as a great human being.

Ye I agree I like Hatton so much not just because of his skill in the ring
but how he stays true to his people and fans he dose not try
to hide from his fans he lets his fans watch him train he dosent want
to be treated different than any1 else even doe he makes so much money
he nose were he came from.

ali was more playful and charismatic but floyd's trash talk has never reached the cruelness and personal level that ali's did to frazier.
